1 The Beginning After The End

'I couldn't even save her and I want to be a hero' I thought scoffing at my foolish dreams as my body started sinking into the sea. Water mixing with blood, my blood, I was just barely floating, but my legs would give up soon and I… 'Well, let's end this with a bang.'

As I barely floated in water, I pulled my hand towards me, felling the well too familiar itch that came along with my powers.

Blue flames wrapped around my right arm as I pulled my arm into a fist, while my left hand was a like a platform for my other arm, and I took aim. With a blurry vision, I looked at the dock, where a small cargo ship was dock and shot my luck.

I couldn't see what happened next as the sea wrapped around me, and I was dragged a few meters into the sea but I did hear a large boom, and bright glow of fire. 'Huh, so I can use his moves.'

I would have smiled if not for the pain that I felt on my hands. I was sure, they wasn't any skin on my fingers anymore, heck I would be lucky if I had any flesh left.

My lungs gave out and I started breathing in water. So this is how my story ends, huh. I wasn't a religious guy or anything, but I sure hope there's someone on the other side.

My name is Toya Todoroki, age 19. And this my story, and a heads-up, its a pretty shitty one.

Toya was born in 18 January in the prestigious family of the current number second hero, Endeavor. A child with bright eyes and head full of red hairs.

Calling his childhood rough would be an understatement. It was all because of one man, Enji Todoroki, his father.

You see after quirks started popping up, the whole society started to change. The system, crime and even marriages. Quirks were random powers given to a child at the age of four.

But the random aspect could be controlled somewhat through Quirk Marriages. Two individuals wilding different quirks could have a child that has both their quirks in harmony. In more rude terms, a breading process to get the best of both worlds.

Toya was the production of the Quirk marriage between Enji Todoroki and Rei. One having an powerful fire quirk while the other had a powerful ice quirk.

But unlike how his father dreamed, Toya, their first child only inherited his father's side of quirk, albeit a powerful version of it. His quirk was Cremation, bright red flames, just like him. But later on those flames would change.

And so Enji started training young Toya, feeding him the dream of being the next number one hero until it became his own. Enji was rough on the young boy, training the boy until he would fall down in exhaustion or puke out the recent meal that he had.

Natsuo and Fuyumi was not long after that. So now Toya at least now had people to care about. By six Toya got used to it, and started enjoying it.

Toya had a goal to achieve, to be number one, the boy smiled at that aspect. Maybe then his mother wouldn't fell sad all the time.

Poor Toya didn't know that his mother was sad because of the cruelty that his father was showing to the young boy. Enji even though physically abused Rei, didn't get overboard. The second hero knew his boundaries and knew how to avoid the law. Soon at age six Shoto was born, which at the time didn't matter much.

Toya's training was going well, and even Enji was starting to be more gental towards him.

The child however at the age of nine started getting white hairs, and something odd started to happen. His body started changing..

His fire started to burn Toya himself, as new burnt marks started appearing on his body. It was surprise for both Toya and Enji. And after checking from a quirk specialist, they found that Toya had inherited his mother's weakness.

Meaning Toya inherited his mother's ice resistant body type, which was the worst combination for his red hot flames.

Enji Todoroki should have stopped then, but he didn't. He still pushed the boy. Even going as far to promote a dream to Toya that if his siblings gained a strong ice quirk they could fix the overheating issue.

For Enji only his success mattered. He when Toya developed his overheating issue, he started being more rough on the Todoroki family.

But it was more than just an overheating issue. But it was a hopeful dream, as the Todoroki household was blessed with twins. Fuyumi and Natsuo. Who by luck both inherited their mother's quirk. Maybe they could deal with with Toya's over burning issues, if they trained enough.

In a world where quirks exist there were certain healing quirks that could counteract almost anything. That meant a worse treatment for Toya as he got his skin burned and replaced. And also with the help of his support gears the burns could be minimized.

Toya carried on, the boy didn't have any friends. His siblings and mother were the closest he could call a friend.

For the little mind of Toya being a hero was his only goal. He didn't have any distractions to think about. So the boy was shocked and overwhelmed when his father stopped giving him attention. It all started happening when he was ten.

At first the boy didn't mind. Maybe work was getting to him, but then the reason was reviled, it was Shoto. Who unlike him perfectly inherited both of their parents quirks. Toya was eleven at the time.

Sadness quickly changed to disparation and hate. And it became worse when Enji stopped Toya's training all together. Twelve years of suffering just thrown away.

The boy however didn't loose hope. It was hard for him to accept it, but he did. Even though Enji stopped the medical fees and even went as far to take Toya's support gears away, the boy carried on.

Quirk wasn't the only thing that a hero needs to have. He started refining his fighting skills and long distance fire attacks which could give him less of a burn.

He smiled at least his father stopped being harsh towards his mother. Maybe his little brother could be number one. He could be another hero maybe even his sidekick.

His resolve changed his fire burning Bright Blue. It got even hotter, to the extant that even doing a small attack could give him a burn, if he wasn't careful.

So the boy smiled. But that smile too disappeared four years later.

You see at sixteen like all teenagers, he wanted to attend a Hero course, imagine his surprise when all the schools rejected his application. Or so the teachers said.

Toya was optimistic, but he wasn't a fool. He knew it, it was Enji, who must have pulled the strings.

For Enji it was pride, he didn't want a broken Todoroki to tarnish the family name as how he said.

Toya lost everything at that time, the little hope he had was gone. So his smile broke. The boy quit his studies and probably wanted to do something stupid.

Rei his mother was quick and sent the sixteen year old teenager to his mother's house. Which was far off from Hetoi City where they lived.

There Toya should have stayed for two years, should have been studying in a general course study in a no named school at the outskirts of Japan.

But he didn't. So what if he couldn't be a lisensed hero, he could still save people. And that is what he did and his resolve became strong after an incident happened.

Toya wanted to be a hero, not for fame, far from it. He just wanted to make people smile, just like All-might did. So he chose the path of vigilantly.

Yes, I did shorten Toya/Dabi's age. In the original timeline he was about eight to ten years older then Shoto. Here he is only six years older then Shoto.
