17 Putting Talents to use

Not too long after his birthday the year began to approach its end which could be considered the closure of the first chapter of Thaumiel's life in this new world.

Experiencing the new year alongside Makima as a family would was strange... not unpleasant but strange.

Getting some simple presents from Christmas and visiting the temple at new years were novel experiences for him who hadn't been originally Japanese.

The succession of events also gradually allowed for him to become a bit closer with this strange aunt of his.

Of course much of her was still a mystery; he believed no amount of talent points in socialization could be figured out, but humans rarely understood one another fully.

The not so nice thing was that during vacations or holidays Makima didn't allow for him to slack at all as he kept griding his talents in a relatively strict routine.

Thankfully he himself wasn't much again, he just somewhat had the lazy mentality engraved in his brain once he reached a holiday causing muscle memory to kick over and for him to grow temporarily extra lazy.

The hard work however paid off very nicely in due time as soon enough as the year turned the talents closest to overcoming the level 50 also increased.

Although they were somewhat boring talents, seeing the possibility for new perks was still an awesome thing.

Though Thaumiel had mixed feelings about the perks Calligraphy and Reading brought to him.

Calligraphy once upgraded to LV50 created a perk called [Meaningful Writing].

In simple terms it was a perk that allowed him to 'imbue' writing with 'meanings'.

Although somewhat eccentric in description it worked relatively simply.

When using it, even if he were to write completely nonsense words that didn't exist, he could define what people would understand from reading what he wrote.

To put it rather simply he could now draw a middle finger and make it so that when seeing people would 'read': You suck.

And it worked universally as well regardless of language.

As for reading, it was a bit more useful.

The perk he gained from it was called [Tactile Learning].

It allowed for him to instantly 'read' the entire contents of a book from simply touching the book.

The perk was so outrageous that through a simple visit to the library and some casual tappings he read over a hundred books in less than a few minutes which caused the progress in Academic to explode forward.

Not enough to Level up the remaining times till point 50 but it did seem to shorten the progress significantly.

Both perks, although not as 'useful' as [Übermensch] still left him and Makima quite amazed by how the talents could evolve to the point it wasn't all that different from gaining a quirk.

The gaining of the perks aside, Thaumiel routine soon changed once again as he entered school.

A completely different environment from pre-school which he had grown somewhat used to.

He wasn't worried though, as his talenta aside he himself was just about to finish school back when he died.

Besides, for better or for worse his new 'little brother' also started to attend the same school as him.

Having gotten more used to Kaminari since the latter officially became his little brother, he had to saw the kid wasn't all bad.

The latter was also the prime subject for him to try out his teaching talent.

'He sure talks a lot though...'

...

To say he didn't have expectations for the teaching talent would be a lie.

Among the various talents Teaching was one that laid on the more vague side of things as usually a talent focused in a certain area unless it was a fused type talent that became more encompassing.

Teaching however was vague, much like survival.

After all, teaching could involve various things.

To teach math, science, how to train physically, how to use one's quirk, to play music...

And as expected the benefits the talent gave once he pumped points into were also quite interesting.

Unlike most talents that made him more gifted or skilled in some aspects, teaching also gave him a sort of sixth sense.

At first he couldn't quite figure out what exactly the sense was about as it seemed to be always shifting and changing.

Once he got the hang of it though he only felt all the more weird about it.

The sense allowed him to know if the way he was teaching someone was effective toward the person or not.

The example that allowed him to confirm was that when trying to help Kaminari with math homework he decided to explain some basics for later.

First he tried to do a more abstract explanation which the talent warned him wouldn't work well, then he tried to demonstrate the calculus to Kaminari, which also didn't work well.

Last but not least he tried to use some simple examples of eating and buying apples and the talent finally determined this way would be much more effective.

Somehow the 'teaching' sixth sense was certainly a weird one to have yet still extremely effective.

As he had guessed it also worked for quirks.

Speaking of quirk Thaumiel had to say Kaminari quirk was really a 'surprise'.

If one were to do an overall look of society its not hard to notice usually elemental quirks are a cut above the rest.

Unless it is compared to some broken quirk with totally unexplainable physics, elemental quirks were quite flexible and could be very powerful.

Kaminari's quirk Electrification also followed that rule and he could indeed dish out some pretty heavy amounts of voltages and some relatively strong amounts of amperage.

The problem though is this guy's quirk had some serious issues.

Normally when you think of electricity powers in anime you imagine, Enel, Killua, The guy from Fairy Tail, girl form To aru, Luck from black clover...

In short electricity based powers = OP to mediumly OP character.

Kaminari though was like a living tesla turbine.

For starters could only dish out electricity he couldn't really control the flow of electricity once it left his body.

Not because of lack of practice or talent but because his quirk was literally just being Pikachu.

Then came the second problem.

A brief analysis of the later body and quirk allowed Thau to know Kaminari's brain was kinda like a capacitor.

It could load up to a certain extent and proceed to dish out electricity in some levels.

But once overloaded it would temporarily 'fry' turning him into an idiot.

The situation is thay Kaminari Innate capacitor was stupidly low making him only minimally able to dish out good levels of current.

Using the amount that could potentially kill someone was also impossible for the current him as well.

Thus Thaumiel found himself his first scientific test.

With Makima having stimulated him to try and innovate with what his talents allowed him.

Thaumiel set himself a small goal of building Kaminari an extra capacitor so he could safely keep dishing out electricity beyond his limits without turning into an idiot.

The process was also supported by Makima and cheered on by Kaminari who didn't really understand but was excited nonetheless.

Things were surprisingly easy.

With his Tactile Learning Thaumiel quickly acquired knowledge of the current words electrics components and about high applications of electricity as well as materials conductivity.

Then it was simply doing the calculations with Academic buffing up his brain and coming up with a suitable prototype of a capacitor.

Next was the technical difficulties of programming the capacitor and signing it to work with a living being like Kaminari.

For that he decided on leveling his Medicine Talent more which in turn allowed him to better understand human prosthetics and how some simpler implants affect the body.

With additional knowledge and after some testing Thaumiel soon enough finished building.

P6-CAP and P3-CAP2

Two support gears made specially for Kaminari.

The first being a type of non-invasive implant, that could be put in the back of the neck that could help him divide the current that goes through his biological capacitor giving him more leeway to use his quirks.

And the second being a type of bracelet like gear that allowed for Kaminari to focus his quirk through it and shoot out a 'beam' of electricity mastering some long ranged attacks.

Since the electricity was also channeled out the beams were much stronger than the ones he could release from his body normally as well, not to mention with the extra capacitor.

Needless to say the result of two months of his moderate hard work was nothing short of perfection.

Looking at Kaminari who could now do target practice with electricity beams and could dish out electricity a few times before getting warned of a 'burn out' by his gear.

A newfound confidence took place as Thaumiel saw the first 'tangible' results his talents could bring to reality.

It's not wrong to say the two support gears were something that others could create in this world but they would definitely not have such an easy time making it like he did.

Not to mention doing it as a single person in a makeshift garage lab like he had.

It's not to say however this was the only achievement he had made for the last month as well.

He also felt himself growing on the verge of achieving yet another perk

-x-X-x-

Hey sorry the chapter was a bit short.

I've been thinking for a while and long story short I've decided to put the novel on an undetermined hiatus.

To be honest I bite a bit more than I could chew here, since I just wanted to try and write it as a hobby I kinda tried to come up with the most creative stuff I could.

The talent thing, some original plot like cat and mouse between Makima and MC.

But as a newbie I was hardly able to really fleshy out this stuff and as a guy once commented I didn't really think about things long term… I mean, I did, but not nearly enough.

So the plots, events and even characters I tried to insert like makima didn't really work the way I intended and kinda looked forced into the narrative which isn't really the type of story I'd like to write.

The Talent quirk also became op way too quick, or well would become in the next few chapters as the plot would focus more on training and developing.

Which would suck later one as MC would literally be able to easily blitzs his way through all the arcs, a thing I didn't exactly want, but can't just go powering the villains nonstop to give him a hard time or purposefully make the mc dumb.

Thus for now I decided to put this story on hiatus.

Maybe I'll try to write something more simple and get a bit more experience then come back to this or maybe I'll rewrite the whole thing later on…

At least for short and medium term don't really expect this story to have any updates.

If another author wants to 'adopt' the story or idea do feel free to go ahead.

Anyway, see you next time and thanks for reading.

I did warn it could be dropped any time soo... well now is that time I guess.
