12 The day after

'Sorry for the last night, I'll make it up to you.' Hailie read the text. Rolling her eyes she texted back

'don’t mention it. I had fun and I made friends, so thank you.'

She received an answer almost immediately.

'Friends? Plural?'

Hailie rolled her eyes. She had half of mind to just block him and go with the rest of her day.

'Shut up Asshat, you know what I meant.'

'Yeah yeah whatever, sorry strawberry.'

'Stop calling me that, Grumpy. '

'Stop rolling your eyes at me strawberry. '

Hailie looked around her. Was he around? How did he know she was rolling her eyes?

'What? are you a ninja now? Get out of your hiding. '

'What?'

'You knew I was rolling my eyes, so you're close.'

'That was a lucky guess.'

Hailie groaned. He really needed to make his mind, and give her a complete explanation.

She put her phone away when she felt a finger rapidly poking her back.

"Who the-"

"What were you and Byan talking about?"

She turned to see Sadie was the poker.

"How do you even know it was Bryan?" Hailie asked with an arched brow.

Sadie scoffed. "Well you obviously don't have any other friend besides me and Walter, and you're not texting me or Walter, so that's Bryan." She said.

"How do you know I'm not texting Walter?"

"Cause you don't smile like a fool and roll your eyes at the same time when you're texting my boyfriend." Sadie smirked and continued, "Now will you tell me what you two were talking about?"

"No, and for your information, I have other friends," Hailie said confidently.

Sadie rolled her eyes and hit Hailie on the back of her head. "I know your whole life and you don't have any other friends so Stop with the nonsense."

Hailie’s answered was cut off by her phone's notification.

Sadie snatched her phone before she could blink and started tapping furiously.

"Have you ever heard about something named privacy?" She said sarcastically and tried to get her phone back.

Sadie just continued tapping and walked away from her, not giving her phone back.

"Seriously Sad, stop it and give me back my phone. What are you doing?"

This time Sadie smiled innocently and gave her phone back.

"What did you do?"

"Saved your ass from being single for another seventeen years, you're welcome."

Hailie's eyes got wider.

"What?"

Sadie rolled her eyes at her reaction and grabbed her phone again. She tapped a few times and showed her the screen of her phone.

Hailie saw the massages between her and Bryan. The three last ones were new.

'Alright I'm sorry strawberry, do you want me to come pick you up after school and go somewhere we could talk?'

Great he wanted to talk, finally. She grabbed her phone to type an answer, but there was already an answer to that.

'That'll be fantastic, where are you planning on taking me this time? You know, talking to you is really comfortable.'

'Plus the nickname is cute, as much as I say it's not.'

Hailie was furious. If looks could kill, Sadie would've been dead right now.

"Why am I friends with you again?" Hailie asked coldly.

Sadie smiled widely, "Because you love me."

"I'm sure as hell not," Hailie said walking toward her first class.

"You're going to tell me what happened last night in the lunch break, right?" Sadie said running after her.

"If you're not busy sucking off Walter's face, maybe."

"Rude," Sadie answered, turning around facing the board.

"Come on just tell me what happened," Sadie said while they were walking toward their table with their lunches.

"Seriously nothing happened. Plus, you and Walter followed us around so you know where we went. Seriously Sads, privacy." Hailie answered sitting down.

"How did you know about that?"

"Bryan."

Sadie sat down next to her, waving her hand.

"Why are you trying to fly with one hand?" Hailie asked.

"Really funny." She said rolling her eyes. "Hi, Walter."

Hailie shook her head mumbling. "Well, that explains it."

Walter sat down across from them.

"So how was the date? You killed him yet?" He asked grabbing his burger.

"No, I didn't. I'm not that bad with boys."

"You punched the cashier when he told you the dress looked good on you," Sadie said munching some fries.

"I'm sorry but he was rude," Hailie said offended.

"He was trying to make a sale."

"Whatever." Hailie took a bite of her sandwich. She didn't know why she was getting worked up about her friends joking with her. It was a normal thing between them. And ever since Walter asked Sadie out they've been teaming toward her, and she was fine with it because as much as she hates to admit it, they are cute together.

"The date was fine, he took me to an Italian restaurant." She said quietly.

"How did he know?"

"This is not how you should tell me, I told you everything Walter told me and did. I even called you to let you hear him. Come on, give me more details."

Walter and Sadie said at the same time.

"You called her to hear me?" Walter was shocked.

"Kinda? Not the important things, just when you were talking about yourself and your intentions."

"And those aren't important?"

"No no they are honey. It's just I'm too dumb to know if someone's lying. Hailie is way better so I kinda needed her help. Sorry." Sadie said while giving him her famous puppy eyes.

Walter rolled his eyes and folded his arms.

"Fine, but don't do it ever again," he turned toward Hailie, "So how did he know?"

"I thought you told him." Hailie was confused.

"Why would I tell him you're originally Italian?" Walter said unfolding his arms.

"I don't know, to help him make a good impression?"

"Well did he made a good impression?"

"She's having a second date today." Sadie jumped in, with her mouth full of fries.

"Close your mouth Sads, that's disgusting. And no it's not a date. He's just picking me up after school. To talk, just so we can know each other better. Nothing more."

Hailie said while closing Sadie’s mouth by grabbing her jaw.

"Well, I would say he made a good impression. And if he knows your last name, it's kinda obvious that you're Italian, you know?"

Hailie shrugged. Bryan knew she was the daughter of sheriff Ardito, maybe he just searched her last name or something.

"Hailie I think you're being a little hard on yourself," Walter said gently.

"What do you mean?"

"You're overthinking everything. You're way too suspicious of everything. Just give him a chance. He is a good guy, and I'm not saying it because I have known him since we were 4, but because he is actually a really nice guy." Walter said eating his burger.

"Yeah okay. I'll try." Hailie mumbled staring at her phone. There was a text from Josh.

'Did you break up with him yet?'
