18 Rejecting 'Good' Intentions

Ye Mu stood in front of the bathroom mirror, washing her mouth vigorously with water. Her face was full of anger, her eyes slightly reddened.

She felt somewhat humiliated. How could there be such an actor in this world? He wasn't following the script and improvised on his own without giving any warning beforehand. This was just simply too disrespectful to others! If what had happened was according to the script, then Ye Mu wouldn't say anything. However, how could there be someone like this, not following the script whatsoever!

Ye Mu sniffled as she took her phone out and contacted Mo Shen.

Mo Shen was slightly busy on the other end, so it took several minutes for the call to go through.

Not a single emotion could be derived in his calm voice as he asked, "Resting during the intermission?"

"Mmhm," Ye Mu responded lightly to Mo Shen's words. She lowered her head to look at the clothes on her body. She called him at this moment to inform him of the news, "I have already signed the contract with New Earth."

Mo Shen leaned back in his chair. He signaled to the assistant in the office to leave before he said, "I know."

Ye Mu stayed on the call, looking at her listless self in the mirror as she switched off the faucet.

Her soft voice was filled with unhappiness and she sounded a little pitiful, "Later, can you come and fetch me?"

The fountain pen in Mo Shen's hand stiffened slightly and his brows knitted subconsciously. He had noticed the abnormality in Ye Mu's voice, "What's wrong?"

"Nothing…" She took a deep breath, attempting to conceal her emotions. "I'm just a bit tired today, so I want to go back early to rest."

She did want to go home a little early, but the reason wasn't quite so simple.

Mo Shen didn't ask again, his steady voice agreed to her request, "Okay."

"Mmhm. Then, I'll hang up first. I still have one more scene to do." Ye Mu raised her hand to rub her eyes, wiping away the make-up that had smudged.

When she returned to the set, everyone looked at Ye Mu a little strangely.

After wrapping up the last scene, Director Ma Yongchun was smoking a cigarette to relax his nerves. Noticing Ye Mu walking into the set, he called out to her and asked, "You still haven't signed with any company, right?"

Ye Mu still hadn't replied when Ma Yongchun handed over a contract to Ye Mu, "Song Zhuochen helped to get this for you. This is a management contract with Koi Media."

"No need, I've already signed a contract." Ye Mu looked at that piece of contract coolly. Of course, she still had no idea just what Song Zhuochen's intentions were exactly.

Ma Yongchun was slightly surprised upon hearing Ye Mu's words; he hadn't expected her to be this fast in choosing a company to sign with, "You're signed already? With which company?"

Ma Yongchun was afraid that Ye Mu might waste her youth with small, unknown companies. It was because there were a lot of fresh graduates like her who would sign themselves with those shady companies after all.

"New Earth," Ye Mu said the two words nonchalantly.

Ma Yongchun abruptly froze, obviously a little shocked, "New Earth Media?"

Even Ye Mu was rather astonished that she could sign with New Earth, so she understood Ma Yongchun's feelings at this moment. Hearing his words, she nodded her head to his question.

"I understand." Ma Yongchun shifted his eyes. He was still in disbelief from what he had heard.

New Earth either signed with ultra-superstars or newcomers who had made their mark in blockbuster movies. Ye Mu clearly didn't belong to any of them.

Ye Mu nodded towards the director, revealing a small smile on her face.

Song Zhuochen strolled over. His eyes were on Ye Mu, yet his words were for the director. "Director Ma, I think that everyone is already tired today. How about I invite everyone for a meal?"

Ma Yongchun didn't know what Song Zhuochen was up to again, "Sure, that would be great."

"Director, I still have some matters to handle. I'm leaving first." Ye Mu smiled at Ma Yongchun before she grabbed her bag and turned to leave.

"Miss Ye isn't joining us?" Song Zhuochen's voice carried a few notes of playfulness as he looked at Ye Mu.

Ye Mu glanced at him, "No need."

Song Zhuochen's amorous eyes cruised over Ye Mu's body and laughed. There was a bit of ridicule in his smile, "Miss Ye's tone of speaking to a senior isn't very good."

Ye Mu halted her steps slightly but didn't turn back to look at Song Zhuochen, hesitating for a moment before walking forward quickly.

Song Zhuochen stared at Ye Mu's back closely, like a cheetah that had just spotted a delectable snack. With some expectation and thirst, he lifted his hand to caress the corner of his mouth, saying her name aloud, "Ye Mu…"

Ma Yongchun and Song Zhuochen had collaborated for a certain period of time already, so it was too obvious for Ma Yongchun what Song Zhuochen's expression represented.

Ma Yongchun let out a sigh, "You better not put your sights on this girl."

"Why?" Song Zhuochen's eyes never moved away from Ye Mu's figure as he asked Ma Yongchun in passing.

"Don't think that she looks soft and weak. She isn't an ordinary little flower. This young girl is a cactus—if you touch her, you will be one who gets stabbed in the end." Ma Yongchun spoke meaningfully, adding, "She is far from the simple girl that you're thinking of."

"Isn't that exactly why it's interesting?" Song Zhuochen lightly chuckled.

He had seen a lot of women, but it was his first time seeing a woman like Ye Mu.

A woman untainted by even a speck of dust—of course, he would be interested in her given the circumstances.

They had already ran out of groceries in the Hua Jing mansion, so Mo Shen brought Ye Mu to the largest marketplace in town to shop around before returning home.

Ye Mu followed Mo Shen and that original bit of discomfort in her heart subsided.

"Is everything fine?" Mo Shen inquired softly, his large hand settling on the back of Ye Mu's hand.

Ye Mu raised her head to look at Mo Shen. She smiled at him and replied, "I'm fine."

She looked at the large hand that Mo Shen had placed on hers, and her heart started beating wildly. She should be nervous but instead, she was unusually at ease. Quietly, she looked at Mo Shen's handsome side profile, her eyes glazed over as she stared at him in a daze.

His entire side profile was like a chiseled statue, distinctly outlined—so handsome that people couldn't look away from him once they laid their eyes on him.

"What do you want to eat tonight?" Mo Shen slanted his head to look at her, his slender fingertips were on the shelf with the bottles of strawberry jam.

She felt Mo Shen's gaze and hurriedly shifted her eyes away. Lowering her head, she responded, "Anything."

Mo Shen placed his eyes on Ye Mu's figure. Sighing lightly, he said, "Our little lady boss doesn't seem to be in a good mood. What should we do?"

Ye Mu was amused by Mo Shen's words. She raised her head to look at him, "Is there a reliable method to cure a bad mood?"

Mo Shen patted the shopping cart at the side and tugged on Ye Mu's hand. He was gesturing for her to stand on the shopping cart.

Ye Mu looked at the crowd around them, "I don't think that this is a great idea, right?"

Mo Shen carried her and made her step on the frontal part of the cart with both of her feet.

Mo Shen laughed while pushing the shopping cart, "Hold on tight!"

When his words fell, Mo Shen sped up.

Standing in front of the shopping cart, Ye Mu was frightened into screaming—people in their surroundings cast their glances in her direction. She couldn't care less about the gazes of others.

The speed of the moving shopping cart produced a gust of wind, causing her to focus all of her attention on balancing herself on the cart. Unfettered and without a care for the world around her, she released a tinkling waterfall of laughter.

After a long while, Mo Shen gradually slowed down. He hurled the necessary ingredients from the shelf into the shopping cart before looking at her, "Is the lady boss still unhappy?"

"No." Ye Mu's face was covered with a huge smile.

She lifted her hand to pick up the snacks on the shelf, "This is quite yummy."

There was still a bit of childishness in her personality.

Mo Shen looked at her. Then, his gaze fell on the lingerie shop in front and looked at Ye Mu abruptly, "You don't seem to have any more underwear. Do you want to buy some?"

Ye Mu was happily holding onto her snacks, but Mo Shen's incredibly natural comment made her lose her balance in shock as she fell from the shopping cart onto the floor with the snacks.

She was now in doubt if her ears were working. How could someone be so frank and upfront saying such a thing? Instead of Mo Shen being embarrassed with the topic of women's underwear, it was Ye Mu—who looked unnatural instead.
