CHAPTER 1

PRESENT DAY

Another day has come to an end,

The sun set in a way that stole my heart,

It was its way of telling that every trouble can mend,

There's something about it that makes me….

"Fart".

Huh? What the hell!

I turn around and see my annoying older brother standing over my shoulder reading MY poem.

Hello! Private space!

Whilst closing my notebook, I give an annoyed face, "Get out! What do you want?"

"What? I helped you out… Instead of thanking me you're being annoyed", Asher falls on the bed whilst smirking.

I sigh "Asher seriously what do you want? I'm not in the mood for this".

Tomorrow is my first day at the new school and like every other student I'm freaking out.

If I'm honest I'm an ambivert.

Asher however has always been a sweetheart for everyone, he's a total extrovert.

"Let me guess, you're nervous for tomorrow", his smirk was gone by now and his eyebrows were creased whilst he sat up to face me. I nodded my head whilst looking down.

"Look Delilah… I know you don't like changes and I know you're scared about tomorrow but trust me you'll be fine".

I look up at him and retort back, "easy for you to say Asher and the one thing that could've calmed me down, you ruined it".

Asher just chuckles "Delilah you can write another poem, but you will just miss the chance to smile if you worry so much".

Asher gets up to leave and I keep thinking about what he said but my thoughts get paused when he stops in the doorway, "Good night my little one and you will charm everyone if only you aren't as annoyed with them and just smile".

I laugh back at him "thanks Asher, I love you".

"Yeah yeah"

I say my quick prayers just hoping that everything goes well tomorrow and lie down in bed. However, I'm not able to sleep until 3 in the morning and have to wake up at 6. Ugh! I hate this!

THE NEXT MORNING

Beep! Beep! Beep!

My alarm goes off at 6 but I press snooze until I finally wake up at 6:30. I go and do my daily routine of washing my face, brushing my teeth, doing a quick thank you prayer, getting changed and then head over to Asher's room to wake him up then to my parents room to wake them up but realise my dad is already awake.

Ah, maybe I'm not the only responsible person in this house.

I slide down the stair railing and slightly stumble towards the ending but manage to balance myself.

"Kiddo, how many times have I told you not to do that".

"I'm sorry dad but at this point that's the only thing that gives me satisfaction".

I make my way into the kitchen and see that my dad has kept crunchy nuts out for me and Weetabix out for Asher. Oh, how I hate Weetabix.

I start to pour my crunchy nuts whilst glancing at the time, 7:15.

"Is Asher up yet?" my dad asks whilst reading the newspaper and drinking his coffee.

"I did wake him up, so… yes?"

My dad just chuckles and shakes his head.

7:20

Where on earth is, he? We have to leave at 8

'ASHER?' I slightly lean back in my chair and shout for him. I am not getting late on the first day

'COMING' He runs down the stairs and starts pouring the Weetabix.

He glances over at me and starts laughing. Me and dad look at one another and give a quizzical look "why are you over dressed?"

I get so confused, what?

"I'm not over dressed, it's just a normal beige flowy skirt with a leopard print matching top. Do I look over dressed dad?"

I look over at my dad but before he can respond, I hear my mum "no pumpkin, you look lovely. Asher stop annoying her".

She comes over and kisses my forehead whilst slightly smacking Asher's head. I give her a gentle smile.

'Yeah yeah okay, I'm sorry, now come on let's go or we will be late'

We say our goodbyes and start heading out but before that I glance in the mirror.

You'll be fine! I repeat Asher's words from last night and straighten my skirt slightly then head out.

***

We arrive early in the morning and sorted out our ID work, Asher knew some people in his year, so he walked off whilst I was left to find my way along. I eventually found out the way and made it to my class, right before the bell.

"Ah, you must be the new girl" The registration teacher asks.

I give a small smile and nod.

"Her name is Delilah and I want everyone to be welcoming towards her" The teacher says with a smile.

"Yes Miss" the whole class responded back as if they were bored.

"Here Delilah, you can sit right at the front" The teacher says and then walks back to her seat.

I sit down and feel super comfortable. This is why I don't like switching schools. It's this 'new girl' feeling that I hate.

"Delilah" I get brought out from my trance and look up at the teacher, "If you need help getting around, then don't hesitate to ask someone in this class".

"Yes Miss, thank you".

A couple minutes later, a guy walks in with jet black hair, but I don't get to see his face. However, what I did notice was how every guy sat up properly and every girl starts going gaga over him.

He has a quick chat with the teacher and even though I was sitting so close to the teachers desk I couldn't hear.

Right before leaving he winks at the girls and giving a head nod towards the guys.

Ring!

The bell rings and everyone starts heading out. I smile at the teacher and start walking out too.

Remember:

Just smile.
