1 How we met

I flopped my school bag onto the floor and immediately felt an immense burden off my shoulders- quite literally in this sense. I finally reached home and the only thing which was really on my wish list at that moment was a nice long nap. Unfortunately, I had to go as I was going to be late for my diving lesson if I kept moping around in a daze. I sighed and left the house, grumbling while doing so.

Fifteen minutes later I had reached the swimming pool. I parked my new bicycle and did all of the necessary security measures( it was for my 17th birthday from my lovely grandma so I was extra careful) before I grabbed my diving bag and ambled inside. I wasn't really too worried about being late as the instructor was pretty lax as long as we all performed well.

The reason I started diving was because I had finished all the basic swimming levels and I got interested in diving so I joined up. It turned out it wasn't as terrifying as it seemed and I actually enjoyed the sport. Slowly I became more and more invested and I had become pretty good along the way.

I walked out of the changing rooms in my black swimsuit and was met with a surprise. There seemed to be a new addition to the usual 7 people in my diving group. There used to be four boys and three girls but now another person had joined tipping the balance further towards the boys.

As I was pondering about useless things such as balance of genders in the world I had already come close to the diving boards. My instructor was present and, as a lady of few words, she immediately began the register.

"Jacob?"

"Sara?"

"Dev?"

"Tanya?"

"Carlo?"

"Jabari?"

"Aria?"

"Haruto?"

She sped through the register without waiting for an affirmative but this allowed the rest of use to learn the new kid's name. Haruto. Sounded like it was Japanese. It would be nice to know home better and get him used to the gang. I looked behind to see six goofs grinning from ear to ear, looking ready to pounce on the poor kid. I slowly turned back around to face the boy and smile.

" Hi, my name is Aria. Nice to meet you."
