A millennium

The sound of swords slicing through the air could be heard from the small room at the basement. Plastics were falling to the cold floor while cardboard made figures had cuts on them especially at the head.

"A vital spot again"

"You are very accurate and precise, Your Highness" an elderly man said

"I know"

"You don't have to repeat the words over and over cause I can see it" Jolien sneered assange sliced one of the wooden objects on what seemed like the head.

She had two swords in her hands and she was positioned and pointed at the figurines. She was wearing a set of white goggles, a pair of trousers and a huge t-shirt.

"Whatever you say, Princess," the man said.

"I think you should leave if you are going to keep talking" Jolien uttered and with that the man ceased to speak.

It has been a thousand years so many things have changed… her looks as well. She got better at using her gift that can change to a curse at any moment.

A glass of water sat lazily on the counter, she had put it there. She stared at the glass for sometime and just like that it began to float.

She got it over to her side till it was right in front of her. Like her father said her gift is special but she hasn't seen anything special about it aside from the fact that she can control things and heal, kill too and handle weapons very well.

She let the water in the cup swirl for a while before she released it and everything came crashing down on the floor and smashing to pieces.

"Don't worry I'm not injured" she said ahead of time. It's not like he asked?.

The door of the room opened and in an instant a lady dressed in uniform fell at Jolien's feet.

'What is it again?' She looked up at the ceiling before stomping her feet from lack of patience.

"What is it?" She asked.

"Princess, your mother is looking for you" she started. Jolien lost balance but quickly adjusted.

"What happened?"

"Why does she want to see me?" She asked. She didn't remember getting into any kind of trouble that would need her mother's presence.

"Your brothers… they are coming today" she said.

"You didn't tell me," She blurted.

"I did but I guess you forgot" the lady muttered. Jolien remembered that she had forgotten.

"Where is she?" She asked as she ran out of the room.

"She's heading to your room, my princess"

"I need to be there before she gets there," Jolien told the maid. She got to the secret passage that was a shortcut to her room.

Dashing through the fleet of stairs, she was soon in her room. She facepalmed when she remembered that she could have just telephoned.

"Oh shit" she cursed when she got into the room.

There was another attendant waiting for her.

"I need to be ready in five minutes," Jolien told her. Her voice is as authoritative as ever. The lady bowed.

Her mum could be here before five minutes.

"Your gown, my princess" she said and Jolien tossed the pants and huge t-shirt aside and slipped into the green gown just for her to lose her breath when the corset was pulled.

Jolien felt like her eyes would pop out, she couldn't breathe. The disadvantages of being a princess.

"Your bracelet" the maid said and Jolien stuck out her hands while she fixed the metal on it.

"Your gloves" she said and fixed the transparent gloves on her hands.

"Your rings, my princess"

"Just do your thing" Jolien ordered and they fixed the rings and necklaces on her.

"Your hair" she had completely forgotten that. Staring at the huge mirror, he pulled at her hair that she had tied to a bun and it cascaded down her shoulders till it reached her waist.

"I'm done right?" She asked the maid.

"Yes… just some makeup"

"Nope… leave it that way"

"But…"

"Just do the perfume stuff" Jolien said as she looked at the gloves.

Just then the door flew open, Mrs Irene's figure emerged at the door.

"Seems like you are just getting ready, young lady" she said, the scent of the perfume filled the air.

"I guess you are not happy about it" I said looking at the stern look on her face.

"You are late, how do you expect me to be happy… maybe I should clap my hands for the late princess" the woman said.

"I'm ready mum, you don't have to scold me"

"I'm not scolding you, I just hope you weren't playing with swords" the woman said before walking away.

She stood up from the stool.

'Did I give off any impression that I used swords?'

Yeah… everyone knew that she could fight and do a lot with swords. At first her mother was against it, well she's still against it but going to the battlefield and fighting with swords was what helped ease Jolien from the thoughts that clouded her mind everyday and from the gift that's kind of a curse.

"Well, your brothers are coming back, I hope you didn't forget that," the woman said.

Forget?. She had imprinted this day at the back of her mind. They walked out of her room heading to the dining area.

"You are also meeting the Prince of Atlantis… I hope you are prepared to show him how much of a queen you can be" her mother said and stopped in her tracks just as Jolien did.

"You can't be serious, we have agreed on something else" Jolien started.

"This meeting had been held back for two weeks and I can't keep letting the Prince wait Jolien"

It has been this way for the past month. They had been setting her up with Kings and Princes just to get her married.

"He's a human, you don't expect me…"

"I do, you need to get married, you're twenty-one already"

"You want to get me married to a human and then I will forget about my gift and . everything"

Mrs Irene sighed exasperatedly, tugging at her hand. She turned to Jolien,

"Yes… you should forget everything and leave a happy life"

"Forget that you were ever a warrior and live a good life," she added.

"Do you think that forgetting everything would help me live a good life?" Jolien asked. She couldn't believe her ears.

They were the ones that wanted her to get to the full potential of her gift as a demonstration and now they want her to give it all up and become miserable.

"Yes"

"No… forgetting who I am and trying to get over the fact that I'm a demon will not give me a good life"

"I'm not having this conversation with you… you will meet the Prince whether you like it or not" the woman insisted.

Meeting him doesn't mean that she will end up with him after all.

How long will she deceive herself that being a demon is actually a gift when it's a curse.
