5 The beast

Darkness surrounded us all, which wasn't the worst part of what was happening, howls and growls that were mixed with wet dogs' scents started roaming all around the hall. All signs lead to that it was a werewolf attack, and those damn creatures couldn't have found a better time to attack rather than now.

As all vampires around were familiar with the situation, they knew what they had to do. The darkness couldn't hide the two special colors that defined most of the vampires, red and yellow eyes shining through the darkness.

Though red eyes were the most to be spotted since most of the vampires are familiar with the use of human blood. Still, there were others with yellow eyes. Those with yellow eyes are known by the name of vegetarians. The color of their eyes explains much about their regime since they refuse to consume human blood.

Vegetarians are known to be the weakest line of vampires since by refusing their true nature they become slower, vulnerable, and weaker than even a newborn.

The man I was about to kiss shifted from the gentleman he was to a scary creature. Of course, it has nothing to do with his fangs, nor his red eyes. I was indeed familiar with such things since it was already part of who I am either.

Still, the thing that annoys me the most was the look in his eye. There was no terror, neither worry in his eyes. Instead, his eyes were holding a sort of cruel sight that seemed as if he enjoyed what's happening.

Lost in his sight I was, I forgot about the issue I was having, which is shifting from human form to vampire form. It wasn't indeed hard for me to let my fangs out, yet changing my eye color was a real issue.

I've never changed in public, so no one but my so trusted vampires has an idea about what kind of color my eyes have.

There were rumors about it since I was young, some claim that I have red eyes same as my father the King, while others claim that I am a vegetarian leading to the fact that I have yellow eyes.

The truth was that none of the two teams guessed it right.

"Shift!" Aeron shouted, causing me to freak out even worse than I was a while ago. It was indeed my first time being shouted at, and it's not an experience that I'd like to have for another time.

"I'm fine that way!" I told him while trying to keep a hold on myself.

"You can't see through the dark with your human eyes, you need to rely on your vampire princess!" His voice was a bit softer than before, he probably has noticed how he wasn't helping through the situation with previous behavior toward Royalty.

The thing was that he was right, I could barely see with my human eyes, and the scent of blood mixed with wet dogs wasn't doing me any favor.

I close my eyes while trying to think if I have to do it or not. What comes to my mind was my father's instructions that forbade me from showing my eyes color in public, yet my father again asked me who I am, and also to be proud of myself.

The moment I opened my eyes, everyone's attention drifted toward me, including the enemies. The different color my eyes hold marked me as a target for everyone's attention even in such a scary time.

It was true that I was a vegetarian that has never tasted human blood, but my eyes weren't yellow like other vegetarians were. It was a shiny green forest eye color. I've always wondered and asked why I'm not like others, but never got a rational answer.

"Interesting!" Exclaim Aeron while staring at me with wide eyes and raised eyebrows, and let's not forget his signature – the creepy smile. Gone was the gentleman I was dancing with, he was replaced by a monster creature.

He called after some guards and ordered them to escort me to a safe place.

"Wait … What? Aren't you coming with me? What if they got to me?" I wondered a bit about what might happen to me if I got caught by werewolves.

"Don't worry Princess, the guards with you will make sure that nothing will harm you, trust me on this one. Of course, your safety matters the most, they still need me there!"

After such a lame excuse, he vanished, leaving me with about six-eight guards, without even waiting for me to say a single word.

"From here, you're Highness!" Exclaim one guard that seemed to be anxious the same way I was.

With a worried look on my face, I decided to do as I was told. So, I followed the guards who were circling me.

We isolated ourselves away from the rest who were fighting for their own lives as we took a secret path that I never knew existed through the walls of the palace I grew up in. Everything seemed to be quietly fine until our way was interrupted by two mighty werewolves.

One by one, the guards by my side started falling dead until no one remained but for me. The brown beast decided to leave, leaving me with the black one.

The thing was that I wasn't afraid of the beast standing in front of me; it was quite the opposite. I was mesmerized by the beauty of the creature standing in front of me. His scent was a strong, sweet, heady scent that is almost cloying, the same as the one the lilac does have.

I stood there unable to move while the same beast was lost the same I was. The sound of bones changing shape, skin rupturing, and tearing up took me out of guard.

His perfect skin glowed after being hidden by the fur of the wolf, giving even a hint to how beautiful his body was.

From a beast to a human, he was now standing in front of me.
