Four

Having carefully avoided any further accidents, Sienna breathed a sigh of relief and made her way outside of the large pack house to catch some fresh air. Other than Alpha Grant, his family and his close companions, the rest of the pack ate their meals together in the pack house. The Alpha and others in the top positions would eat separately in the Main House and were rarely seen. Sienna didn't have much to do with the Main House and had never stepped inside it. She did wonder sometimes what it looked like, but for the most part she was glad she didn't have go there. Sienna had heard about Sheila from the others and from what they said it was best to stay well clear of her. Whilst Mila was the Cook's daughter, everyone knew she wanted to really be part of Sheila's inner circle. She talked as if she and Sheila were best friends, but Sienna doubted that as she had never seen Mila invited to the Main House when they had parties. Although Mila took the food over, from her dejected appearance soon after, it only meant that she had not been asked to stay. Sienna would have felt sorry for Mila but because she often took the brunt of Mila's anger, she couldn't say she was.

"Hey Si." Sienna turned to see Miles walking up to her.

"Hey to you too." Miles ambled to where Sienna sat and pulled out a cinnamon roll from under his shirt.

"Thought you might like this since you didn't get to eat dinner last night." Sienna squealed and snatched the roll from Miles and then started to slowly eat the roll, taking one small bite at a time so she could savour the sticky, sweet taste. Miles just watched her with hooded eyes and said nothing, knowing that Sienna needed him to be silent.

"Mmmmmm, that was so good! Thanks Miles, you're the best!" Sienna jumped up and wrapped her arms around Miles and gave him a hug. Miles stiffened but then brought his arms up and hugged Sienna back. He took a deep breath and his nostrils filled with the scent of honeysuckle and lemon that was uniquely hers. They both held each other for a few moments before Sienna gently released Miles and stepped back.

"Thanks for helping me in there. I'm so clumsy and I don't know what I would've done if you weren't there."

"No worries Si, it was nothing. If they fed you and let you rest properly you wouldn't be so tired!" Miles said angrily.

"I know, but that's just the way it is. One of these days I'm going to leave this place and you're coming with me."

"What?"

"I've been thinking about it Miles. There is nothing for me here. I'm miserable and no-one wants me. I want to be free, free to to do what and to be able to go where I want!"

"But...but you can't leave!" blurted Miles. Sienna looked at him confusingly.

"I wanted to thank you Miles properly and thought if we leave together, we could start somewhere fresh. You're always saying to me to be patient and that things will change. Well I'm done being patient! It's time I did something for myself!" Miles looked conflicted as if he didn't know what to say. He put his hands threw his hair, something Sienna knew he did when he was frustrated.

"Look Si, we will get out of here, just not right now. It will get better, you just have to trust me on this."

"How can you be so sure Miles?" Sienna asked. She couldn't understand how Miles knew this. Miles hesitated as if he was about to say something, but then pursed his lips and shook his head.

"Trust me Si, just trust me, ok?"

Sienna let out a tired sigh.

"Ok Miles, I trust you. Let's get back inside before I get another telling off." Sienna pulled Miles hand and they made there way inside. Too busy talking to each other, they missed the eyes that were staring at the them from behind the trees.
