1 1. Killed and Reborn.

'Well, this is not good.' I thought with a rather disturbing tranquillity and calmness, especially when considering the situation I was in.

The hard concrete floor was very cold, apart from a liquid warmness slowly spreading below me creating a distinct balance of warm and cold.

3 people were currently panicking above me, looking at my body that was slowly pooling blood beneath it with increasing panic and fear.

"Boss, I-I think you went too far, what if he dies? W-we'll get in a lot of trouble!" the shortest of the 3 stuttered while the boss didn't look much calmer.

"I-I-I didn't.. I-.. let's just go, nobody will know. Y-yea, I'll throw the knife away where no one can find it and nobody will ever find out." He said while his eyes constantly swung around to make sure nobody had appeared and saw them.

All 3 of them quickly agreed and started running away, leaving me lying on the floor with a hole right below my heart, feeling my body becoming increasingly cold.

My body had always been weaker than most. I was always quick to get sick and bruised rather easily. It took only 100 meters of jogging to have me wheezing on the floor gasping for air and it seems my weak constitution isn't much of a help here considering I can't move and can barely even breathe.

They'd been dragging me here for 4 days now. Jealous of my good looks apparently, so they decided that they'd show me just how much better than me they were.. by beating me up

'I must say, I didn't expect them to actually to stab me. I'd be impressed, if only they didn't start running away like cowards. If you're going to kill someone, at least do it properly, you dragged me past 3 CCTV cameras and your footprints are quite obviously all over the place, there's no way they won't catch you.. sigh, well.. do I have any regrets before I die?'

'Hmm.. not really, I don't really have any pleasures in life in the first place, so i'm fine with dying as it is, though I'd prefer it would happen a little faster. I've been here for at least 45 seconds and i'm still alive.'

Slowly, my vision started growing darker and I felt light-headed from all of the blood loss. By the time I was on the brink of losing consciousness, everything below felt like it was in a sea of warmth.

'It would be more comforting if the warmth wasn't coming from a puddle of my own blood' were my last thoughts before I had finally fell into the cold embrace of death..

..

Blearily, I tried opening my eyes, only to realise that I couldn't move them at all and that everything was shrouded in darkness.

Trying to shake away the confusion that one normally feels after just waking up, I wondered just what sort of situation I was in.

Everything around me was warm, though I couldn't really feel my limbs or body properly. I couldn't smell anything.. or breathe, and I couldn't move at all. The best way to explain it would be floating in the void while also being inside of a very warm and very soft ball. Trying to move, I felt my 'limbs' hit the edges of this ball and realised that if I was claustrophobic, then I'd be a very panicked individual at the moment.

'Hmm.. am I an egg?' I didn't have much of a chance to continue the thought of being an egg as I was suddenly experiencing the feeling of movement.

I quickly realised that there was noise coming from all around me that was very distorted, feeling like it was being heard underwater and behind a thin wall simultaneously.

The warmth that was previously all-encompassing was rapidly draining and from my legs to my head, the warm liquid slowly left and I started to feel cold, eerily similar to the feeling of when I died just minutes before.

Withholding the instinct to scream, I allowed my self to slowly move downwards where the noise was becoming louder and more apparent.

It took a while, but I had finally moved far enough to see the light on the other side.. only to be blinded by it causing me to quickly shut my already blurry and sensitive eyes.

The noises were now intelligible but still sounded like I had just come out of the shower and my ears were full of water.

"It's a boy, Miss Nightshade." said a smooth, feminine voice from above that sounded slightly tired and relieved while also handing me over to another, supposedly my new mother.

Another voice, much clearer and closer than before replied, "Thank you, Clara, you may leave now." it was a feminine, almost angelic voice that had a natural grace to it which easily commanded respect even with how exhausted the voice sounded.

Blinking my eyes a few times, my eyes were finally able to adjust to the surroundings and allowed me to observe everything around me.

The room that I was in was distinctly gothic, with dark spruce wooden walls and pillars that were easily 10 meters in height, the room was clearly very big and high-class, though there was something much closer and easier to observe than the room around me.

My 'Mother' was probably the most beautiful person I had ever seen. I couldn't see a single blemish on her pale white skin and her eyes were a sapphire blue that almost seemed to glow in the slightly dark room. There wasn't a single part of her face that looked ugly or imperfect and her silky smooth black hair flowed around me, surrounding me, almost like a dense forest of black.

Her expression was mostly blank with barely a trace of a smile on her perfectly pale red lips, the only expressive part of her was her eyes that showed a hint of warmth in them when looking towards me.

"Your name will be Zen. Zen Nightshade." her soft, smooth voice once again spoke. After she had said this, she closed her eyes and her breathing fell into a slow, soft rhythm signifying her falling asleep.

After a few seconds of not knowing what to do, I felt a large rush of tiredness engulf me and just as quickly as my new mother, I was asleep.
