3 Volume 1 Episode 3

After taking a deep breath, Lin Hamill was in no hurry to get up. He placed his hand under his head and looked above. He still couldn't get used to the fact that he was currently living in an alternate reality.

Lin couldn't help but smile. He covered his face with one hand; people who didn't know him might think he was panic-stricken, but he was in fact covering his mouth and laughing quietly.

He got down from his bed and opened the wardrobe in front. There were clothes inside, fashionable suits and casual wear which looked popular.

Lin chose a black jacket, leather pants and a pair of casual shoes. He closed the wardrobe and looked at himself in the wardrobe mirror. He then smiled, seemingly satisfied and moved to the kitchen.

After eating breakfast, he quickly went to the basement. Richard had finally brought some 'lab rats' for him to experiment. As he reached the entrance of the basement, he could hear screams of the so called lab rats. He opened the door and saw Richard and his other bodyguards holding down a man who was all skin and bones. Near him was a girl who was unconscious.

"It seems that these two are today's test subjects." Lin whispered to himself.

"Grab him! I'm going to inject the sedative!"

"Yes boss!"

"Get the f**k away from me you bunch of psychopaths!"

Lin watched as the bodyguards tried to grab the guy and sedate him all the while he tried to resist them. From the looks of it, it seemed that the man actually wasn't sedated well enough and woke up earlier than usual and saw that he was in a dangerous situation. Fortunately, he wasn't the test subject with the magical powers, so it wasn't the worst case scenario.

It took a while for the bodyguards to grab the man and to sedate him. After he was unconscious they moved him to another bed and left the room with only Richard present along with Lin.

"Master Lin, may I take the leave?"

"Yes you may Richard, you did good."

As Richard received his answer he bowed and went outside the room leaving only Lin and the two test subjects.

"Now then, shall I start?"

Now left alone, Lin grabbed an antiseptic potion and applied it on the arm of the girl where the vein is present. Then he took a large needle specifically manufactured for him and injected to the vein to take the blood out.

Before the whole procedure, the system had shown him several medical procedures required for drawing blood and blood transfusion. Using his perfect memory, something that was gifted to him, he studied the procedure as a whole in a short time. However, he knew that studying the technique and applying it are two very separate things. That's why he had trained on sedated monkeys during the last week, using them for the purpose of practical work. He also had the information hint blessing, so his guesses would mostly be 85% true as well, which helped in learning the procedure faster than normal.

The reason that the magical world had not found the secret to unlocking the magical power is due to the very fact that they depend too much on it. Due to the fact that magic existed, potions were made for most injuries and diseases and the medical profession was not necessary. As a result, the medical knowledge that was supposed to be the key to gaining magical powers was suppressed ironically by magic itself.

As the blood was taken and stored, the next step was to figure out which component of the blood would likely activate the 'X factor'. Lin thought that as the most common component that is used for transfusion is plasma, it was better to start with that. And the information hint also went off in his head, which further made him confident that it would be correct.

He took the retrieved blood and prepared for Plasmapheresis, which is the removal, and return or exchange of blood plasma or components thereof from and to the blood circulation. As he had magical materials on his side, he used a separating potion, which is usually used to separate poison from particles, to emulate the centrifugal procedure.

Like the similar uses of separating potion used instead of centrifuges, there were similar materials that substituted most of the scientific equipments with those of magic. The same can be said with the testing of blood group, which is replaced by using an unraveling blood potion, used usually by parents to determine whether the child is theirs or not in a legal dispute. It is not equivalent to the DNA testing that is what's used in the original world. It's just that they haven't reached a point where DNA can be substituted. As a result they expect the unraveling blood potion to be precise.

It is using this method that Lin figured out how to identify blood groups in this world as having the same blood group is essential in the transfusion of blood.

He removed the blood plasma from the unconscious man as well, and substituted it with the blood plasma of the girl who was gifted. After a few minutes passed, the whole blood had been transferred.

He did this for another few days continuously and on the 5th day the unconscious guy woke up. Lin had stopped giving him sedatives to make him wake up and showcase whether he received powers or not.

"Ugh… where am I?" as the man woke up from the deep sleep he realized he wasn't feeling well. He looked around suspiciously to understand the situation he's in.

GRRRRR…!

A Sudden growl made him shiver. His legs started shaking. He knew the growl. He had heard it before many times. People used to say never move a muscle and hide whenever you heard that growl. But he had nowhere to hide right now. It was just a single room. With no furniture, no pictures, no decorations. Nothing but a bed. It was just a single white room which faced a door. And the growling came from behind the door.

DRRRR…

Suddenly, the door opened. It appeared that it was automatic. Whatever was behind the door didn't wait for it to be opened fully, as it squirmed through the gap it made and got in. Then, as if it had found its goal, the creature looked at the man without moving a bit.

A Greymur Panther.

One of the most Savage creatures in the wild. Even the Gifted were afraid of it. No one choose to go near a mile of it. And yet it stood there, in front of the man.

Beyond the room stood Lin, waiting to see what his experiment shall bring to the table. Will it fail? Or will it pass with flying colors? The tension made his blood rush. As he looked at the screen which showed the inside of the room, he was full of anticipation.

Frankly, he had lowered his expectations to the minimum. The experiment was still in early stages. It didn't have to work. He didn't expect it to work. His experiments with the monkeys had ended in failure for the most part, only finding success in the final parts of the experiment. So needless to say he knew he shouldn't be overconfident. But for whatever reason, he couldn't help but feel excited. He had no idea why. Perhaps it's because he was one step closer to the mission he had been assigned to. Perhaps it's because it would be his first worthwhile use of time. Or perhaps it's because the experiment is a chance; a chance to change his future; a chance to prove himself. Perhaps that was the reason he was so excited at the prospect of this experiment. As he looked forward to what the outcome will be, suddenly…

The panther moved.
