2 Volume 1 Episode 2

Lin got out of the apartment and headed out. He wanted to get a feel of the new world that he would be living in. As he looked around, he realized that most of the infrastructure was pretty similar to his original world, with exceptions like the absence of Police Stations, Fire Station and Hospitals being replaced by Guilds.

"It seems that not much has changed except for some jobs being replaced."

As Lin looked around, he heard an arrogant shout of someone familiar to him.

"Well if it isn't my cousin Lin, how're you doing living alone? Are you perhaps feeling good now that you've escaped from the gazes of your family members?"

Lin furrowed his brows. He remembered that voice very well. It was Luke Hamill, his cousin. Luke had always bullied him and made fun of him after finding out that he was more gifted than his talentless cousin.

It was a similar situation in the original world as well. Luke was much more talented and more suited in running his family empire than Lin, and because of this he always had an arrogant attitude.

"Oh, nothing much Luke. Why are you around here anyway? Won't your Mommy spank you if you go out too far from the family mansion?"

"HEY! You take that back you little…"

It seemed that the blatant provocation had worked as Luke had been enraged by the simple comment and had to be calmed down by his servants.

Lin saw this and smirked. It was obvious to anyone who was a part of his family that Luke's mom pampered him too much. She was overprotective to the point that Luke didn't even leave his room until he was nine.

"Lin, I may not be able to beat you now, but soon the news of you being talentless will be revealed and you'll be removed from the inheritance with no one to protect you. I'll see if you can still provoke me then."

Lin snorted at his replies, and answered back with another comment.

"Go along master Luke, wouldn't want to miss your bath with your Mommy now would you?"

"YOU!"

Ignoring the angry Luke, Lin walked back to his apartment and entered the basement. Richard had messaged him that everything had been set up, the speed of which impressed Lin.

"Well, I may have to give Richard a raise for his dedicated hard work."

As he thought about his butler's payment, Lin moved to the bed that had been installed. Near the bed was a table where small surgical knives had been placed. The surgical knives were hard to come by so Richard had specifically ordered them to be made.

"System!"

[Yes sir?]

Like an obedient puppy, the system popped up in front of him at his call, waiting for his order.

"As I recall, you are the connecting link between the real world and this alternate world, right?"

[ That is absolutely correct and yet not at the same time sir. I am a system designed by The Man Upstairs. As a result I exist in more than one dimension and reality. I am irrelevant in terms of space, but not so in terms of time. But yes, I do exist as a connecting link between the world you previously inhabited and the current one so as to help you accomplish the mission assigned to you. I am basically G**gle, but more knowledgeable and more powerful than you can imagine. ]

The system gave a detailed description of itself. Lin nodded as he thought of his blessings. He had received many gifts from The Man Upstairs, one being information. He would get hints as he reaches closer to a hidden truth, and he had just received a hint some time before.

It had something to do with the human body.

It happened when Lin was thinking about the origins of the magical power and what was its source. As a result he kept thinking about the comparisons between the magical powers of a parent and their child. He had created a hypothesis that the magical powers could be a form of genetic inheritance, passed on from mother to the child. And sometimes they won't all be passed down to the child, as seen in the case of Lin. That was what Lin had thought the reason was.

But then a hint was dropped in his mind. It made him feel the urge to go out and check out the local newspaper and curious of how the hints work, he went out and bought a newspaper and searched for the hint when suddenly he saw a small article.

It was about a group of nine year old kids who were attacked by some wild beasts when they were passing through the forest. All the kids were killed except one. But what caught Lin's eye was the fact that the boy who survived was not one of the gifted at the time.

Yet after he was healed, he took the test a year after, he had awakened as a gifted at the age of ten.

There weren't many kids who awakened at the second test but the number was way higher when compared to those who awakened at the third test. So naturally although it did make the news, it wasn't considered all that special.

But this was incredibly suspicious to Lin. After doing some background checks on the child, he had figured out that the child had no ancestors - even among the ones who were known to be alive before two hundred years - who were blessed with magical powers. With this his theory about genetic inheritance would likely be wrong.

But Lin had a thought. The way the hints work,  as told by The Man Upstairs, is that it drops a hint everytime he gets close to a hidden truth. Doesn't that mean that even though my theory might be wrong, it was close enough to drop a hint?

As he scratched his head, he thought of the beast that had attacked the kid. It was reported that after the beast killed his friends, it had bitten the boy's arm and had sank its teeth into it but the guild members arrived at the scene and saved the boy from the beast.

He looked at the name of the beast and recalled his memories. That was another blessing he had received. He had gotten the memories of the Lin Hamill of the Magical world and a perfect memory, which he used to read and gain knowledge about the magical world. As he remembered the name and characteristics of the beast, Lin's eyes sparkled.

The name of the beast was Silver wolf, and it's characteristics was that it would store blood of its prey in its hollow teeth to feed its children.

"Could it be… blood?" a sudden idea struck Lin as he thought about the incident.

While genetic inheritance may not be a factor, the fact that the genetic material exists in blood is a fact. Maybe it isn't that the 'X factor' only exists in the gifted, but maybe the factor that results in the emergence of magic power is dormant in the body of the normal people. And the activation method might be blood transfusion from the blood of a gifted passed on to a normal person.

There probably isn't a possibility that the magic power is an external factor, as it would be way too different from the boy's normal blood and his immune system wouldn't allow it. It would've probably killed him. Not to mention the transfusion was through a bite from a beast. That might've been a worst case scenario if there had ever been one, but the boy survived nonetheless. The potions fed to him were also normal potions for healing of wounds, nothing to help what would've resulted in an incompatibility of blood. Yet the boy is alive.

Lin thought about the reasons that resulted in the boy getting magical powers, coming to the conclusion to implement the methods practically to find out whether he's right or not.

"Well I guess I have to wait till Richard brings the test subjects to figure out how the powers actually work." Lin told himself as he looked forward to his experiments.
