11 Were You a Doctor Before?

Gu Yuzhen awoke the next day. Ignoring the pain in his body, he was surprised to see Ming Qu by the side of his bed.

She was sound asleep. Her fair face and delicate facial features looked as if they had been meticulously crafted. Her perfectly straight nose, petite mouth, and fan-like eyelashes twitched from time to time. She had a soft allure, as if asking to be held and kissed.

Perhaps feeling his gaze, Ming Qu snapped awake, meeting the eyes that were staring at her.

She sat up straight as she blurted out, "You're awake."

Gu Yuzhen remained calm, turning his head to look at the ceiling.

Ming Qu, seeing that he did not speak, quickly checked his pulse and heaved a sigh of relief.

He would have been suffering from a high fever if not for the medicines that she had given him. As of now, he was safe and healthy.

"Do you have something to say to Ah Jiang? I'll go get him for you."

She stood as she spoke, walking out.

Not long after, Ah Jiang entered.

Gu Yuzhen's lips moved slightly and his voice was hoarse. "Who did it?"

"It was the second miss."

Ah Jiang lowered his head as he spoke.

After the incident, Gu Chun'er had gone missing again, afraid of the repercussions.

Gu Yuzhen was accompanied by Ming Qu throughout his stay in the hospital. Strangely enough, he never saw a doctor ever changing his dressing.

He would usually read documents while he was awake and fell asleep when he was tired. Waking up, he would realize that his dressing had been changed.

Gu Yuzhen was suspicious, but he did not show it. Finally, on one lunch break, he pretended to be asleep in order to find out the truth.

Not long after he had closed his eyes, he heard someone push open the door and enter. His body was flipped over, and his clothes were lifted up. A cold sensation hit his skin.

He opened his eyes abruptly, asking in a deep voice, "Were you a doctor before?"

After he had said that, the ward fell into dead silence.

The finger that had brushed against the skin on his back froze.

After a long pause, he was positioned back in place. He looked at Ah Jiang, who was hanging his head by the edge of the bed. He was indifferent to him as he turned his attention to the girl beside him who seemed to look a little guilty.

"Why don't you dare look into my eyes?"

He asked again, his tone much gentler than before.

He was clearly surprised by her actions.

All along, he had thought of her as just an ordinary and pitiful person. He had now realized that was not the case.

Seeing that she was unable to answer, Gu Yuzhen's face darkened as he gestured for her to go outside.

Once Ming Qu had left, he slowly sat up from the bed.

"Go investigate her."

"Sir..."

Ah Jiang started to say something but stopped.

Gu Yuzhen gave him a look, at which he immediately lowered his head.

From the past few days of interacting with her, Ming Qu had left a strong impression on him.

She was clearly the same age as the second miss, but she had a mature presence to her that surpassed her age.

Ah Jiang left, and Ming Qu did not appear again.

Gu Yuzhen waited and waited, only calling for someone after some time had passed.

The people who hurried to him were the doctors and nurses from the hospital.

Seeing them, he did not know why, but he felt inexplicably disappointed.

"Mr. Gu is recovering very well. He will be discharged in two days."

After performing a general examination, the doctor smiled at Gu Yuzhen.
