Chapter 482: The voice of the siren (Edited)

The moment Fish cracked open the golden egg, a terrifying and piercing scream filled the whole place.

Everyone's voices were drowned out by this shrill scream, and even the referees who were scoring had to stop their actions because of it. Barty Crouch, who was already in bad shape, was so startled that he fell out of his seat.

"Nya!"

ヽ(-`Д′-)ノ

Fish, who had been the first to hear it, threw the golden egg from his hand and pinned his cat ears back on his head with a pained look.

"Go and close it!"

Professor McGonagall shouted, covering her ears as she saw the students in the distance avoiding the golden egg, but her voice was not heard and the students near the egg fled even faster.

It was Professor Moody who finally limped over to the golden egg and closed it.

"Put it away, don't open it again."

Professor Moody handed the egg back to Fish, and Fish took it with a look of disgust.

?(?ω?)

"Oh my goodness... Is this your second event to deal with a banshee?" Seamus lowered his hands and looked uneasily at the golden egg in Fish and Harry's hands.

"I've heard something similar at Nick Nearly Decapitated's anniversary party before," Harry laughed bitterly. "It sounds a lot like the music a ghost band plays with a musical saw, only the sound of the golden egg seems a little scarier."

Just as Fish was about to speak, Bagman's voice came again.

"Ahem... The scoring continues! Madame Maxime just gave Fish a 10."

Bagman's voice brought the attention of the stunned audience back to the judges, and then they cheered noisily, satisfied with the score awarded to Fish by Mrs. Maxime.

Mr. Barty Crouch stood up, looking a little embarrassed and his face was pale, as if he had not recovered from the fright at this point.

A silver number eight appeared in the sky, causing a chorus of disgruntled boos....

"He must be getting back at Fish for scaring him!"

Hermione guessed angrily, to the unanimous approval of the Gryffindors around her.

After scoring, Barty Crouch turned to the other judges, whispered something to them, and hurried off.

"Mr. Crouch has left because he is not feeling well," Bagman explained to the group. "Now it's Professor Dumbledore's turn to give Fish a grade!".

Dumbledore stood up with a smile on his face and gave Fish another perfect score.

Bagman did the same and also got a perfect score.

After a few moments of shouting, everyone quickly quieted down, looking at Karkaroff, who had given a succession of low scores earlier.

Karkaroff stood up with a grumpy expression and, after a long moment of struggling, expelled a big "8" from his wand.

Again with an 8, Karkaroff received many cheers this time.

"Bravo, Fish! You're number one!"

Hermione hugged Fish enthusiastically and cheered.

"Nya? Did Fish win? and the prize?"

?ω?

Fish blinked and asked curiously.

"Well... you have to wait until you pass all three tests before the winner of the Triwizard Tournament is decided..." explained Hermione helplessly.

"Oh yes, Hermione, I think you told Fish earlier... so why did you say Fish was number one?"

(??ω??)?

The cat scratched his head in confusion.

Hermione could only continue to explain to Fish dumbfounded, and Fish finally understood.

"Nyajajajajaja! Fish will also be number one in the next event!".

(●`?′●)

Fish said it so confidently that no one around him thought he was bluffing...

The shock of beating the Fire Dragon alone was too much.

At the referee's table, Bagman called the first test to a close and told the champions to return to the tent where they had started, as he had a message for them.

Fish and Harry returned to the tent with the golden egg in their arms, and Fleur and Krum also entered, both looking at Fish with amazement in their eyes.

"You're really something, Fish." Fleur sighed with conviction, "Looks like we don't stand much of a chance in this competition."

Even as proud as she was, she couldn't help but feel pessimistic about an opponent who could defeat a Fire Dragon single-handedly.

But soon, Fleur's spirits rose again, "But I won't give up so easily!".

"Neither will I!" Krum also said from the side.

"And me!" said Harry, plucking up his courage as well.

Although they hadn't been able to see Harry's performance, Krum and Fleur knew from what they had heard and from Harry's score that he wasn't just a cheater with a reputation, so now they were starting to take Harry seriously too.

"Let's work together, everyone."

Fleur smoothed her silver hair around her ears and smiled charmingly, putting Harry and Krum in a trance.

"Oh, by the way nya..." Fish rummaged in his pocket and pulled out the fire dragon figurines, "I'll get them back to you nya."

(?ΦωΦ?)つ

Undeterred, the cat handed out the fire dragon models.

Harry had wanted to keep the Swedish Short-Snout dragon model after the tournament, after all it was very memorable, but he had already given it to Fish and couldn't ask for it back, so now that Fish had offered to give it back to him, he naturally accepted it.

Fleur and Krum seemed to think the same, as they both took their models without pretending to be polite.

"Well done, everyone!" At that moment, Ludo Bagman jumped briskly into the tent, looking as jubilant as if he himself had just successfully wrestled a fire dragon. "Especially Fish, you've done beyond anyone's expectations!".

After praising Fish, Bagman finally got down to business.

"Well, I just have a few words to say. The second event will start at 9:30 on February 24 next year, until then you can take a long break.... But we'll leave you with some questions to ponder!".

He pointed to the golden eggs in everyone's hands.

"Fish just opened it, and I want to tell you that the clue to the second event is hidden in these golden eggs, in the voice to be precise: that will tell you what the second event is, so you can get ready now. Is everything clear? no more questions?"

"You mean we're going to listen to that awful voice, and look for clues in it?" he balked, "Are you sure we won't be deaf?"

"That's up to you," Bagman said with a shrug, "All I can say is that voice isn't that scary."

Harry, Fleur and Krum had a very obvious expression of disbelief on their faces.

Only Fish nodded his head and said seriously, "It was a mermaid's voice, wasn't it? When they're out of the water, they sound like nya screams."

"Ah..."

Bagman's mouth dropped open, not expecting Fish to discover the truth so quickly and, even more so, to tell his rival the answer.

"You shouldn't have said it." said Krum again, with a wry smile.

"Nya?"

?ω?

Fish cocked his head to the side, looking like a confused cat.

"We're competitors, you shouldn't have told us the clues." Harry sighed, explaining to Fish.

"Who cares! You can't beat Fish anyway."

(●`?′●)

Fish waved his hand boldly and said casually.

Harry, Fleur and Krum: "..."

"And the relationship between Mercus and Fish is so good nya, you can't win Fish," Fish continued to reveal.

"Mercus? who is he?" asked Harry curiously, but soon regretted it.

"She's the leader of the mermaids of the Black Lake.... By the way, Harry, mermaids, like centaurs, don't like to wear a lot of clothes, you'll like her."

(?ΦωΦ?)?

Fish replied as he patted Harry on the shoulder.

Harry: "..."

Earth, swallow me.
