"What!!!" Now James was truly shocked. His parents were S.H.I.E.L.D members and even a high level at that? He had no idea whatsoever. The memories of the previous owner which he inherited also had no mention of such important things. Or it was possible that the original owner of the body had no idea at all.
"Wait which parents? The one who abandoned me or the ones who adopted me?" James asked.
"The ones who adopted you," Fury replied. "By the way, do you wanna know the identity of your real parents?" Fury asked seriously.
James however sternly replied," No my parents have already died."
His stern tone told that he wanted no relationship with those who had abandoned him.
"Okay then. So coming back to the main topic, are you going to be part of the initiative or not?" Fury asked.
"I am ready to be a part of the Avengers, but I want an annual salary of a million dollars," James stated his conditions.
"For doing such a noble task of protecting the well being of our planet you are asking for payment?" Fury complained.
"Fine, I won't be joining the Avengers then," James declared. Fury really thought him to be an inexperienced 20 year old, who would do anything for fame or popularity or be fooled under the moral tag of 'noble task'.
"Two hundred thousand," Fury argued.
"Nine hundred and fifty thousand dollars," Jame retorted.
Finally after arguing and haggling for some time they both reached an agreement regarding the annual salary which amounted to Six hundred and fifty thousand dollars.
"So are you ready to spit out some information now?" James asked boredly.
"All this is related to your brother," Fury looked deeply at Thor.
"You found him? What did he do?" Thor asked hurriedly.
"He destroyed one of our research labs, hypnotized Dr. Erik Selvig, the astrophysicist and agent Clint Barton. They have now stolen the Tesseract and currently their goal and position is still being searched by our agents. But I can definitely say that they are up to no good. We are currently recruiting and gathering members of the Avengers to stop them from being successful in whatever their goal is," Fury explained.
'So same things are going to happen, as the original plot. I know what is going to happen, but I can't tell them. What proof would I have for knowing such future information. Only a fool would reveal his identity as a transmigrator. Not only me, even the Ancient One knew the future but didn't try to change it. Everything boils down to one thing that I am not strong enough,' James sighed.
"Now tell me about my family," James said.
"Your parents were among the head researchers back then. Along with Howard Stark, they played an important role in the development of S.H.I.E.L.D. Howard Stark is the father of Tony Stark, hopefully you know him. Also your parents Alfred and Audrey, along with few other researchers were responsible for the creation of the Super-soldier serum,"Fury answered.
"Well I have a rich family background. Who would have thought that they both knew Howard Stark and Captain America," James exclaimed.
'Two new characters were added to the past. For long as I know there were no Alfred or Audrey in the past responsible for the creation of this serum. This definitely must be the changes that the angel had mentioned,' James came to a conclusion.
"Also Steve Rodgers aka Captain America is still alive," Fury told about what had happened to the Captain America and how he was rescued from the block of ice. He also told some basic information about the other members of the Avengers such as their background and their powers to James.
"Wait," Thor suddenly shouted and closed his eyes.
After a few seconds, he opened his eyes and said," I know what Loki is up to. He wants to use the Tesseract to open a portal and call upon the army knowns as Chitauri. They have stuck a deal where Loki would get to rule the Earth in exchange of the Tesseract."
Fury exclaimed," What is the validity of your information?"
Thor frowned," 100%."
"Hmm, let's discuss it on the Helicarrier. A Quinjet is waiting for us outside, ready to take us to the Helicarrier where you will meet the other members," Fury declared.
"Lead the way," James said without hesitation.
"Just a second," Fury said as he picked up a call on his phone.
"We will be there," Fury said as he ended the call.
He looked solemnly at them and said," We have found Loki. He is in Germany now. Prepare for you first important mission."
Fury said and walked out of the apartment. James and Thor looked at each other and followed him.
Soon they reached the Quinjet which was waiting for them at the top a building. Everyone boarded the Jet and at a great speed flew towards Germany.
"How is the strength of the army?" Fury asked Thor.
"Basically they are what you people call as aliens. They had good weapons, good individual strength and also they have huge monsters known as Leviathans. Moreover the Chitauri army has strength in numbers," Thor replied.
"Who does this army belongs to?" Fury asked curiously.
"No idea. They don't belong to any particular world or realm. Their existence seems to be shrouded in a secret," Thor sighed.
"Is someone hiding in the shadows then and using Loki as a front?" James asked knowing well who that person was.
"Definitely possible," Fury nodded as his mood turned gloomy.
"Let's focus on the problem in front of us. Don't think about things that are out of our control currently. We will make sufficient preparation for those things later," Fury said convincingly but he himself was lost in thought about the future dangers.
Finally they arrived at the location.
