New Feelings

(Midtown High, 8:30am that day)

(Gwen's POV)

"Come on, Slowpoke!" I giggled while jogging away from Elijah and into the School.

I'm having a lot more fun these days. It's been a rough couple of months for me, after all. But, before we get to that, let's start at the beginning one last time.

My name is Gwen Stacy. I was bitten by a radioactive spider, and for the last year I've been the one and only Spider-Woman. You guys know the rest. I joined a band. Saved my Dad. I couldn't save my Mom. So now, I save everyone else. Ever since she passed, my world lost it's color. I still had friends who loved me, but it was difficult to open up again. To care again. To care for someone just to lose them like I lost her, because I was too weak. So, I gave my everything to my Job as Spider-woman. I spent every waking hour I could swinging around New York or beating villains. I made my Dad worry. A lot.

But, recently, I've been getting better. I hang out with my friends more than I did. Pete, Harry, Miles and MJ have been there for me through all of it, and I only recently started showing them the appreciation that they deserve, but I've been getting better at it. 

And then, yesterday, something weird happened. And don't get me wrong, when you're a Spider-person in New York, weird things happen a lot. But this was weirder than usual. I was sitting in class listening to Professor Connors drone on and on about Electrolysis, when suddenly my Spidey-sense went off. It was telling me about something about to approach the door, but it wasn't the feeling I got when there was danger. My Spidey-sense wasn't warning me, it was just making me aware. It was like it was telling me to pay attention to what was on the other side of the door. As I watched the door in intrigue, the person on the other side knocked.

In walked a new transfer student. He was about 5'11, had (H/C) hair, clear (S/C) skin, piercing (E/C) eyes and a muscular physique. As he was talking to the professors, I could hear the girls whispering some things I'd rather wish I hadn't heard, but alas, enhanced senses. But the weirdest thing was, my senses screamed at me that he was dangerous, but simultaneously told me to stay close to him. It was like they were telling me to befriend him to reduce the chances of having to fight him. I have faced a lot of villains in the past year, but none of them elicited a reaction as volatile as this.

He walked to the front of the class to introduce himself, and managed to do the verbal equivalent of slipping on a puddle of water and falling on your ass. The class was dead quiet, presumably trying to figure out what his deal was. The whole situation was so comical I couldn't help but chuckle. Clearly, I chuckled a bit too loudly, because the entire class, including the new student, turned to look at me.

"Sorry, it was just so quiet, and that introduction was so bad"

I watched him glare at me in annoyance, and I continued to chuckle under my breath. He then came and sat in the empty seat next to me, and we introduced ourselves. He was funny, and admittedly kind of charming. But I couldn't stop myself from looking him up and down when he wasn't looking. What was it about him that made my Spidey-sense have such a visceral reaction? It had calmed down the moment he introduced himself, but it still made no sense. The only thing about him that really stood out was that his body was toned, but that could be achieved by putting in some work at a gym. I couldn't figure him out for the life of me.

But, I had to admit, he was pretty fun to be around. He made my next classes until lunch kind of bearable. Just kind of. I took him with me at lunch to meet my friends, and he hit it off with them too. They all thought the same thing I did. Funny, charming, and slightly weird, but in a good way.

And that brings us to today. I don't know what his deal is, but I intend to find out. But, from what I've seen of him so far, he seems like a good guy. And a bit of a flirt. Not that it matters to me, no, why would it, I absolutely don't care.

(Elijah's POV)

As I walked into the school and caught up with Gwen, I found her immersed in her thoughts.

"Gwen. Gwen! GWEN!"

Gwen: "Huh?! Oh, Elijah. What's up?"

"What's up with you? You were staring off into space in the middle of the hallway"

Gwen: "Oh, sorry, I was just thinking about something"

"Everything alright?"

Gwen: "Yeah, just daydreaming. Come on, let's get to class before we're late. Connors is scary when he's angry" She replies, beginning to walk towards the class.

I shrug my shoulders and follow her.

The classes went as usual. Excruciating pain. At times I found myself staring at the window thinking of an escape route. Gwen and I sat next to each other for all of the classes so far as we had them together, but surviving the remaining ones I have without her is going to be a testament to my will.

As the bell rang signaling lunchtime, Gwen and I walked out of our class, only for me to immediately bump into someone when I turned to talk to Gwen.

 "Oh, shit, sorry"

I turned to see who I had bumped into, only to see no-one in front of me.

"Oh no, not again"

Laura: "So, you're back to get your ass kicked. I can at least respect you for having balls. You might not have them once I'm done with you, though"

I looked down to see the pipsqu- *cough* *cough* to see Laura staring daggers at me.

"Oh, hey there, wonderful weather we're having, huh?"

Laura: "Whatever you say" she replied in a monotone voice, before beginning to reel back her fist. Thankfully, before she could throw her punch, Gwen intervened.

Gwen: "Hey there! I don't think we've met before"

Laura stopped her fist, and looked Gwen up and down, and then...sniffed the air? Weird girl. Kinda hot. Moving on.

Laura: "We have not. The name's Laura." She replied, before quickly giving me a dirty look, which I reciprocated.

Gwen: "Hi. I'm Gwen. How do you know Elijah?" Anddd she's given the psychopath my name. That is, assuming that Jean didn't already give it to her.

I watched Laura turn towards me and grin menacingly. "He bumped into me the other day and made a few jokes at my expense. So, your name's Elijah, huh? I have my eye on you" She said, before walking away.

I felt a shiver go down my spine. I swear she seems crazier than that chihuahua. No, that's an exaggeration. She's not even close.

As Gwen and I both watch her walk away, Gwen turns to me with a smirk.

Gwen: "So, making friends with other girls already?"

"Why? You jealous?" I reply with a teasing tone.

Gwen: "And what if I am?" She replied, leaning in close to me on her tip-toes, so her voice was just a whisper. She was close enough for me to smell her shampoo. She smelt like apricots and peaches. Her piercing blue eyes looked up at me and into my soul. And for the first time in my life, my breath hitched in my throat.

Upon hearing my failed attempt at a response, she began laughing hysterically, as I blushed furiously, out of both embarrassment and something else I couldn't fully identify nor understand.

Gwen: "Come on, you goofball. Let's go to the cafeteria. Everyone's waiting for us."

I shook off my embarrassment and followed her, while silently promising revenge.

(Gwen's POV)

what the fuck. what the fuck. what the fuck. Why did I just do that. What did I just do. What the hell. I have no idea what just came over me. When he asked if I was jealous, my body just moved on it's own. Why did it do that. I looked over my shoulder and saw him following me. I silently thanked whatever god was out there that he was behind me and couldn't see the massive blush that I could feel heating up my cheeks and ears. There was also the massive grin plastered on my face ever since I heard his breath hitch in his throat.

*whispering* "What the hell is this?"
