40 Awakening
"You know what?" Damn this guy is cute. "Maybe you are right. I should take this little one home."
"Huh?" She didn't seem very convinced. "You didn't look that interested a while ago."
"People change, Peggy. Emotions, interests, likes, dislike… everything can change within a matter of seconds." I looked at her. "And this fella has convinced me to take him home."
She sighed. "As long as he doesn't have to live in the streets, I am fine with it."
"Don't worry about it. I will take good care of him."
"So… what are you going to call him?" Good question. I can't always call him, little one.
"What's a good name for a black cat?"
She hummed. "You can go for basic names that mean black, cue to his color, or even use mythological names."
I don't want to go over the top with names, so basic works.
"I will go with basic ones."
She hummed once again. "You can go for names like… Night, Felix, Eclipse, Neo, Shadow… cause of its shade."
Eclipse is a good one… but-
"I will go with Shade." She raised an eyebrow.
"Shade? I was referring to its color, so I said shade."
I chuckled and shook my head. "Yeah, I get that. But I want him to be called by that name."
She puts her hands around her waist. "That's not a bad name… but are you sure about it?"
"Yup!"

[Later at Home]
"And so you adopted a cat?" Mother said from the kitchen.
"Yeah, it was alone in the streets… No owner, no house, just a stray." Even if it wasn't a stray. I won't miss the chance to own a panther.
My mother has always been weak against cute things and orphans.
"Aww, sweetie. That was sweet of you. But I hope that you can take good care of him or I will have to take him away from you." This made me laugh.
"Don't worry, mother. I will take care of him."

[A few days later]
[[Sebastian Shaw]]
"You don't have to cook, Lourdes. We have the maids for that." I already knew her answer but I don't want her to overwork herself.
"Don't worry. Cooking is my hobby and I love cooking for you." She had a playful smile on her face. "Don't tell me that you hate my food, mister."
*Sigh* Women… "Of course, not. I love your cooking, I just don't want you to overwork yourself. We are getting engaged next month and I don't want anything to go wrong before that."
She laughed… Even her laughter's melodious. "Shouldn't your father be here? We were supposed to have breakfast together, all three of us."
Now that she mentioned it, I haven't heard from him since last night. "I will give him a call."
I can use the phone that Marcellus gave me… yeah let's use that one.
I took out the phone and dialed my father's number.
*RING* *RING*
Huh? That's weird. Dad picks up his calls instantly.
"What's wrong honey?" Lourdes asked from the dining hall.
"Dad's not picking up his phone."
"Maybe he is busy?" No that can't be the case.
"He never misses his calls." After Marcellus gave us the mobile phones, he has not missed a single call. So him not receiving the call is worrisome.
*Knock* *Knock*
Maybe that's him?
"Must be your father." Lourdes said and rushed towards the door.
*Sigh* "Slow down, Lourdes." She didn't listen. I sighed and slowly walked behind her.

[Timeskip: A few minutes later]
"Lourdes… Keep breathing, I will let nothing happen to you." My vision was red and so was the room.
…
…
[Timeskip: A few minutes ago]
Lourdes was in such a rush that she didn't bother to check the 'guests' through the peephole.
I was walking slowly towards the door… until I heard Lourdes's scream.
"Who are you?!?!"
I rushed towards the doorway as fast as I could.
The moment I reached there, I saw four men, dressed in black with guns pointed towards Lourdes… and now at me.
"W-Who are you guys?" Was it one of my business rivals?
"Capture him." I was about to move but was stopped by the muzzle of the gun that was pointed at Lourdes. "You move and we blow your girlfriend's head."
I gulped and stood there… even though I didn't want to. "Shoot her." My ears buzzed when he said that.
"Why?" One of the men asked.
"We got orders to kill her in front of his eyes." Why? And whose orders.
"Don't! I don't know who sent you, but I can promise that I can pay more than they did."
This made them chuckle while I was left confused. "Don't get ahead of yourself, kid. The things that were offered to us are above money." He looked at his partner. "Shoot her."
"NO!" Too late… as they shot her in the abdomen.
"Lourdes!" That was the switch and it got flipped.
I had no idea what happened around me as all my senses were shut down and my rage was turned to the max.
The adrenaline in my body pushed me towards the men with the guns. I didn't care whether they were armed or not. My mind had only two thoughts. 'Slaughter them and save Lourdes'
My body moved on its own… guns, knives… nothing mattered.
"Shoot him! He is a bloody mutant!" They shot.
The bullet hit me, I felt the impact… but instead of pain, I felt giddy. I felt overly energized.
*BANG* *BANG*
The guns kept on firing and I felt myself growing stronger with each hit.
My senses were focused on two things… Lourdes's breaths and the men's movements.
One of them took out the knife and tried rushing towards me… despite the guns not working against me, just a minute ago.
My punch met his face faster than his knife could hit my abdomen.
His skull exploded… He exploded.
"Kill that fucking mutant!" The leader roared but I rushed towards them before they could even react.
My punch hit the other one and the same as before, he exploded.
The last one was shaking and pointed his gun towards me. "G-Get back monster!"
My rage got the best of me as my punch met his face.

…
Lourdes?! Lourdes?!? I need to check on her.
I ran towards her unconscious body.
She is breathing. But not for long. "Lourdes… Keep breathing, I will let nothing happen to you." My vision was red and so was the room.
Damn it!!! "If I don't get her to the hospital fast… she won't make it… But how do I get there so fast?"
"I can help you with that." My head snapped back to look at the familiar voice of the man... that I knew quite well.
"Marcellus."

[A/N: Ye, I know that it's a rushed chapter but I can't edit it now. A storm hit our area and we won't have electricity for two more days. *Sigh*
Anyways, fun facts!
•Protege is said to have no cap to his power. For all we know, he might become as strong as The One Above All if he sees OAA using his powers even once. But let's be honest here... OAA will never allow that. (Protege can mimic any power/ability he sees.)
•Hyperion and Thor once fought the Beyonders and even managed to kill one... before both of them got killed by the other Beyonders.
•The strongest reality warper marquis of death was outsmarted and killed by Doom!
