36 Chapter 36: The Key to Immortality

In the Arctic, the permanently frozen ice layer welcomed some uninvited guests.

"Can you confirm it's him?"

The leading bald man, wearing a proper suit even in the freezing Arctic, asked the person in charge here in a serious tone.

If they made him come here for nothing, he would definitely show them what happens when a nice guy gets angry.

"Sir, please come take a look at this first."

The person in charge didn't directly answer his question, but brought him below the excavated ice layer instead.

Then, through the ice, they saw a shield about the size of a manhole cover frozen within the ice layer.

Faintly visible was a silver five-pointed star in the center of the shield.

While the star was surrounded by concentric rings of blue, red and white stripes.

"It's definitely him, great!"

Seeing this shield of tremendous significance, with an identical one displayed in his own home, the balding man almost instantly confirmed the identity of the frozen person.

At this moment, even though his expression could barely remain calm, his tone seemed to tremble slightly due to the cold weather.

"Start excavating immediately!"

Subsequently, led personally by high-level S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Phil Coulson, the frozen person under the ice underwent intensive excavation.

Soon, a body frozen for decades was carefully lifted onto a jet, and transported to S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters in top secret with the fastest speed.

Taken away together with it was the circular shield imprinted with the five-pointed star.

...

At the same time, on the other side of the Arctic at the South Pole, a figure flew swiftly through the air.

Right now, directly below the ice cavern entrance, it is used as a temporary rest area due to connecting all the labs.

"Hey, seems like new people again."

Tony, leisurely enjoying cheap red wine on the sofa, suddenly felt the entrance above open as a blast of cold wind rushed in, making him shiver involuntarily.

Then he noticed two more figures appear before him.

"Wait, there's a trash can over there, don't vomit on the floor..."

"Bleurghh..."

"Alright, too late it seems. Remember to clean it up later!"

Tony waved his hand in front of his nose a few times, trying to dispel the foul smell.

However, the nausea in his heart just wouldn't go away. The wine that was just about to reach his lips now tasted awful.

"Fu*k, what a bummer.."

Feeling somewhat irritated, Tony couldn't help complaining, then turned to head back into the lab.

But he suddenly heard Peter call from behind: "Wait, this is for you."

"Hmm? Why does it look kind of familiar?"

Tony hastily caught a bottle of fine wine thrown over by Peter after turning back.

But after inspecting it closely, his smile instantly vanished.

"That's right, took it from your villa. You're welcome!"

"Damn you, thief..."

After speaking, Peter didn't care that Tony's expression had turned ugly, and brought the just vomited Professor Connors to the lab sealed by multiple metric-ton doors.

Boom!

The nearly 10-ton heavy metal door was easily shifted aside by Peter with one hand, and then he brought Connors straight inside.

"Hey, you guys are starting research on that green monster, right? Can I join, I dabbled in biology too..."

Seeing a flash of green through the opened crack of the door, Tony no longer dwelled on the wine but volunteered eagerly to participate in the research.

"Sorry, if you can promise to never leave this place your whole life, I'll let you join the research..."

While speaking, Peter closed the heavy metal door back up from the inside.

"Damn jerk, my whole life? No way!"

Tony would never accept such a condition.

It hadn't even been half a month, yet he already sorely missed the big bed in his luxury villa, not to mention the busty blonde babes...

"But what exactly is that green monster, that he's being so secretive about researching it?"

However, Tony who quickly snapped out of his fantasy, couldn't help being very curious about the green figure in that special lab.

"Dang, that vomit still isn't cleaned up..."

...

"Professor Connors, I believe you're not unfamiliar with it, right?"

Pointing at the enormous frozen green monster in the lab, Peter slowly spoke.

"Of course I'm familiar, it's because of it that I've almost lost everything..."

Connors gave a bitter laugh, also full of self-mockery. Having this outcome was his own fault for being too greedy.

"Lost everything, lost your lifelong pursuit, lost the arm that could potentially regenerate, are you really willing to accept that?"

Peter looked at Connors and slowly asked.

"Unwilling? But what can I do about it?"

"All my research materials from decades have been taken away. Even if I start over, I'm afraid there's not enough time or funding to support it."

Even if Connors felt unwilling now, as a researcher he was very clear, to restart a project required tremendous time and funds.

Almost no one would support him restarting the regeneration serum project.

"You're right, there's no need to restart your regeneration serum project."

Peter spoke slowly, extinguishing the last glimmer of hope in Connors' eyes.

"But I think you can devote yourself to an even greater cause."

Peter's gaze slowly turned to the frozen Hulk, his tone full of temptation as he continued.

"A project that can not only regenerate your severed arm, but also grant you tremendous power, even immortality, worthy of going down in history."

Peter now seemed like a successful mentor from a past life, patiently persuading Connors.

"So what's the price I need to pay?"

Anything came at a price. Having gone through utter failure once, Connors was especially clear there would be no pie falling from the sky.

"Your brilliant mind, and a little bit of freedom..."

"So what's this project called?"

Connors agreed almost without hesitation.

Or rather, he knew he was in no position to refuse a superhuman now.

"The name, nothing for now. But when you completely uncover the secrets within this body, I may give you another project..."

Looking at the frozen Hulk, Peter slowly spoke, a hint of mystery flashing through his eyes.

"Uncover the secrets hidden within this body?"

Connors looked at the powerful body, his eyes filled with desire. This would be the key for humans to attain immortality.

"Oh right, what's that other project you mentioned?"

Making humans immortal was something all people yearned for.

Peter's other project made Connors even more curious.

"A project that...would make one feel fear, even destruction..."

Peter didn't elaborate, just a flash of hesitation in his eyes.
