56 Oh!

I watched as the Eva, passed out from her panic attack. With her unconscious and stranded in a foreign place, I decided it would be best if I took her with me.

I scooped the girl up into my arms and I carried her away from the main road to my nearby camp.

I had camps set up all around Greece, being able to conceal them with simple magic was easy, but magic is not my specialty.

" Gonna have to thank Hestia for this." I spoke as I placed the girl down inside my own small tent. With nothing else to do for the day I started a fire outside and started cooking the animals that I had caught earlier for dinner.

As I sat there cooking my wolf meat, I rubbed my face in exhaustion. " From one thing to the next. Is this what my life is going to be like now?" I asked. I sighed again and then after a few minutes; I removed the wolf meat from over the fire. " I should probably go check on the girl. See if she's up." I hopped up with two sticks of wolf in my hand. One for me and one for Eva and I walked into her tent.

She was still sleeping, so I left her be. I didn't see a reason to wake her up.

I returned to the fire and ate my dinner quickly. There were still tensions rising with the eastern gods and I was warned to be on alert at all times in case, Zeus called a meeting of the gods or in case they grew brazen enough to attack us.

" A battle with other gods. I have to admit, it does sound fun. For me anyway. I doubt they'd enjoy getting slaughtered. Susanoo the slayer of Orochi, Amaterasu mistress of the black flame, and Tsukuyomi the lunar prince. Heh, things are looking to ignite. I wonder how it will take for either side to throw the first blow. Though it sounds like a good time, there's also the possibility of civilian casualties. No, there'd definitely be casualties." I spoke.

" Casualties of what?"

" Hm?" I looked up and saw that Eva had finally awakened and was sitting up on her blanket and staring at me. " Oh, don't worry about it. You don't need to know." I told the girl. She seemed a little offended by how I had worded my sentence, but who cares. Small details aren't important. " Are you hungry?" I asked the girl.

She looked down and rubbed her stomach and nodded.

" Here ya go, be careful, it can be a bit..... Yeah." I handed her the stick of wolf meat and then reached down into the basket of apples I had and threw her two.

" Thank you." She replied.

I nodded and she took a bite from the meat and then cringed. Her face curled up in disgust at the taste of the meat.

" Ewww, what is this?" She asked.

" It's wolf. It's really good." I told her.

" Wolf?!" She asked in disbelief.

" Yes, wolf. As in the animal, the hunter that wolf." I told the girl. I didn't understand what was so hard about eating wolf.

" It's disgusting." She exclaimed. " I think I'll just eat the apples, thank you." She stated. She reached up and handed the meat stick back to me.

" Suit yourself." I responded as I took it back. I then took a big bite off the hunk of meat, savoring it's rough and salty taste. " So, Eva. You wanna tell me why you're here. Or why you're here?" I asked the girl. I wanted to get to the bottom of this mystery as soon as possible. And the only way to do that is to get straight to the point. " You said this is the past. What does that mean?"

" I don't know if I should say. I could accidentally ruin things." Eva replied.

" Eva, I know this situation is probably way worse than I can imagine, but I can't even begin to help you if I don't know what's going on. So, for your sake just be honest. tell me as much as you can without giving me too much. Tell me how you got here for instance. That might help me send you back." I told the girl.

" Well... Do you know what a mutant is?" Eva asked.

" A mutant? No, I don't." I told the girl.

" Well, a mutant is a person born with a gene. This gene gives us abilities, powers to use. Mine is I can create time bubbles. And well, I accidentally sent my teacher back in time and then I panicked. I ran and... now I'm trapped here. I sent myself back int time... And I don't know how to go home." She spoke. She sat up with her legs brought up to her chest and hung her head. " I just want to go home."

" I'm sorry to hear that, Eva. Time travel is a powerful ability. And it can be deadly when you don't know how to control it. I'm not well versed in the area of time, no that was Chronos specialty. But I might be able to help you control where you go, next. Tell me. When you sent your teacher away, what were you feeling? What happened for you to do that?" I asked the girl.

" Well, we were training. It was supposed to be a sparring match... But she took things a little too hard and I got spooked. I threw my hands up and she disappeared. And then I ran." Her story was rough, but it seemed to be pretty easy what motivated her powers.

" Fear." I spoke.

" What?" She asked.

" Fear, is what drove your powers to do what they did. You were afraid, so you couldn't control when your powers activated. When they did activate you were most likely in a frantic mindset, so you weren't thinking straight. Tell me, what were you thinking before you suddenly traveled through time?" I asked the woman.

" I wanted to go back. To go back home to my mom and just be normal again. I didn't want these powers. I just wanted to be happy again." Eva broke out into tears and started shaking.

' What's with me and running into little kids who cry? I'm beginning to think I'm less the god of the sea and more the god of children and runaways.'

I sighed and moved over next to the girl. She was pretty small, and I easily towered over her.

I reached over and pulled her into a side-ways hug, and she just cried into my chest.

" You know, I grew up a fighter. In Sparta that's what a man always did. We fought to defend our nation. So, I can't really say what normal might be for you. But I do know that there is nothing wrong with being different. There's no shame in having a gift that others don't. I have a few gifts myself. Gifts that make me different. That make me powerful. That make me less of a human. But I'm not ashamed of them. Nor should you be."

" But things are different. Being what we are is nothing but pain. We're hunted and hated by everyone. They send things to kill us and throw us into battles all the time." Eva explained. " And I'm just not cut out for that."

" Not everyone is, and that's okay. Sometimes you have to do what you think is best for yourself and if that means putting down your blade, then so be it. But you also have to understand that with powers like ours we have to look out for those who can't protect themselves. If you standby, letting someone suffer while you could be helping then the only thing, you're doing is showing how much a coward you are. Think about it like this. It is okay to not want to fight. But should there come a time when you are needed or something you care for is in danger then you must be willing to fight. If not, then you just might see everything you know, and love slip away from you." I explained to Eva. " I don't know what kind of pain and suffering the world is going through where you're from, and I honestly don't want to know, but I know you're still alive. And if you're still alive then there's still a future worth fighting for. If that means anything to you." I got up and walked away from the girl, it was clear she needed some time to think things over.

" I'll be outside waiting for you. Take all the time you need to think. When you're ready, I think I may be able to get you home." I told the girl; I then opened the tent up and walked outside.

I sat there by the fire for hours, waiting, staring, thinking. I was completely lost to the world.

It wasn't until I heard the ruffling of the tent behind me that I turned back to the world.

" So, do you know your answer?" I asked the girl.

" I... I'm not sure if I want to fight. But I do want to control these powers. If I can help someone with these, then I will." Eva spoke. " And for me, that's enough."

I turned to the girl and smiled.

" Well said. Okay, now.... Let's focus on you getting you back home." I hopped to my feet and walked towards the girl.

" Alright, so, I've been thinking about your powers, and I've come up with a few theories. The one that seems to make the most sense is that your powers work by time and dates. See, when you were running, your mind was unfocused, all it knew was that you wanted to go to the past and that's what your powers did. they sent you to the past." I explained to the girl.

" Okay. But how does that help me get home?" She asked.

" Well, I figured that if you were to focus on the exact time or at least the right date you may be able to go back to your time. Focus on going forward, not backwards. Got it?" I told the girl.

" You think it's that easy?" She asked.

" I think it's that easy. We won't know unless we try, and I'd say it's our best bet at getting you home." I spoke.

" But I still don't know how to trigger them. How are you going to trigger my powers?" She asked.

" Well, I could chase you around trying to kill you?" I told the girl. Her face turned pale, and I couldn't help but laugh. " I'm just kidding. Actually, I think the trick to activating your powers is simple. You had a need to defend yourself in training. And a want to leave when you were running. Your powers work with your thoughts. You simply need to focus. They are your powers, no one else's. You decide when and how they work. Everything is your choice, Eva. You just need to focus and believe. You can do this."

Eva looked down at her hands. Her faith still shaken, but her determination to get home pushed her forward.

" Okay. I'll try."

" No, do or don't, there is no try. You can do it. And you will." I told the girl.

Eva nodded and took a deep breath.

" This power is mine. I am in control. And I want to go home!" Eva threw her hands up and a bright blue engulfed her body. Slowly but surely, she faded away.

" Good-bye Eva. Wherever you've gone now, I hope it is what you were looking for."

I stood there staring at the spot where the young girl had vanished at with a smile on my face. I knew that girl had the power to do great things. Not just for her. but for all people like us.

" She called us mutants. I wonder where that came from?" I asked aloud.

Suddenly I felt a presence enter my barrier.

I turned and saw Hermes kneeling behind me.

" Lord Poseidon, I come with urgent news. Zeus has called an urgent meeting of the gods. We're going to war." He exclaimed.
