66 Chapter 66: Twins

Wanda convinced Pietro to give up on the plan to sell the gem.

Wanda's words were the main reason that changed his mind.

"Are you sure we can sell this gemstone? What if someone robs us?" she said.

In an instant, Pietro was snapped out of his excitement and focused on the gem by those words.

In the chaotic situation of Sokovia, they realized that they couldn't hold onto the valuable gem without putting themselves in danger, so they decided to give it up.

Thinking of this, Pietro felt a shiver down his spine. He quickly looked around to make sure nobody was watching and then hid the gemstone deep inside his clothes.

Jack also realized this and sighed. He had forgotten about it, but carrying a precious item was risky even in a peaceful society, let alone in a place like this.

However for himself, Jack didn't have many options. Right now, he only had valuable jewels and some weapons. Aside from that, he didn't even have food. The only remaining supplies were consumed on that planet, and he didn't prepare anymore after that as he was distracted with returning home.

"Never mind, let's go back," Pietro sighed with regret. He then took Jack, who was on Wanda's back, onto his own back and gestured to Wanda, "Let's go to the cabin, it's the only safe place right now."

"Okay," Wanda agreed.

The two siblings quickly left towards the edge of the forest, with Jack reluctantly allowing the man to carry him.

Wanda and Pietro were moving quickly, clearly very familiar with the forest, as they knew every corner of the ground.

After about half an hour, they finally arrived at a small, run-down wooden cabin hidden in the forest.

The inside of the cabin was small, only about 20 or 30 square meters in size. The view was simple, with a fireplace on the wall, a pile of firewood beside it, and a table in front of it that appeared to be a dining table.

There were two doors on either side of the fireplace. Pietro opened one and entered a small room inside. Wanda followed closely behind, and together they placed Jack on the only bed in the chamber.

"You stay here and watch him. I'll go around and see if anyone followed us," Pietro said.

Pietro crouched down and rummaged under the bed, pulling out a rusty ax and knife.

He handed the knife to Wanda and cautioned her, "Be careful and protect yourself... if he wakes up and gets violent..."

"I'll stab him!" Wanda raised her face, tightly gripping the knife, nodding seriously.

Pietro turned around and walked out, seeing this.

Pietro went out with the axe, and Wanda pulled a chair from the living room and sat next to Jack, watching him.

The atmosphere became heavy for a moment.

"Who are you?"

Wanda's whisper suddenly reached Jack's ear: "Are you an alien? But it doesn't seem like it!"

"But your opening was quite sci-fi, it almost killed me. I should be angry, but looking at you like this...I'll let it slide. I'm a good person.

"Anyway, if you keep lying unconscious like this, you won't survive long. I don't know how to save you!"

"You can't go to the hospital, you fell from the sky, and many people saw it. They're probably looking for you now."

"What should I do with you? I should have listened to Pietro and just left you there."

.....

Wanda seemed to be talking to herself, but it also felt like she was talking to him. Jack listened as she rambled on, feeling a mix of emotions.

From her words, Jack gained some understanding of the situation that Wanda and her brother were in.

Although Sokovia was in a constant state of war and ruled by warlords, it hadn't completely fallen into chaos. The Government still had some ability to maintain order in Sokovia.

In addition, things have been somewhat better for Sokovia on the world stage lately. Other countries have been stepping in to help with their internal conflicts, so they were able to survive overall.

Compared to ten years ago, it was indeed better.

Wanda and her brother had to rely on temporary jobs since they were not yet adults, and few job opportunities were available. The pay they received from these jobs was barely enough to cover their basic needs.

As for relying on relief funds? Don't make me laugh. Even if there were any, the warlords likely embezzled them to buy weapons from Stark.

Overall, the siblings were at a level where they couldn't eat their fill, but they wouldn't starve either. Despite the hardship, they managed to support each other and get by.

Wanda had been living this way for six years now, from the age of ten until now.

Jack felt sympathy as he listened, hoping to regain his mobility soon to take Wanda away from this place. Soon, Pietro returned with a dead rabbit and some bad news.

"I just saw a lot of helicopters flying over in the distance. They seem to be looking for something," said Pietro.

As he skillfully skinned and prepared the rabbit, his face showed concern as he glanced over at Wanda, who looked worried. "Maybe..." he began to say.

"No way!" Wanda interrupted him firmly before he could finish his sentence.

Pietro sighed and turned back to continue cleaning the rabbit, hoping those people wouldn't find their location or, worse, find what they were looking for inside.

Jack was inside the house and could hear their conversation, but he was powerless to help. He could only hope to regain his strength in two weeks so that they would be safe from any danger.

'Damn that Supergiant, I'll teach him a lesson next time I see her.'

In the Multiverse Salvage Pool, Jack sat by the pool, looking at the calm water's mirror-like surface, sighing with a sad expression.

He was feeling extremely frustrated. Since traveling to the universe, he thought he had been extremely unlucky. The enemies he encountered were difficult to handle, and he had been close to death multiple times.

Jack deeply understood the value of power. If he had just a bit more power, that Supergiant wouldn't have been able even to touch him.

It was because he was too weak.

He had a shortcut to becoming stronger quickly. As long as he could find a way to use the Growth Codex, then he could easily win without any effort.

Jack grabbed the salvage net next to him and stirred it up in the water.

"Come on! Bring out the epic items. Bring out the epic items."
