In shock, Nick returned to his office and looked around at the familiar room. He then glanced at Jack, who had a smirk on his face and fell silent.
Today, he had heard too much news and too much suffering. Even he didn't know where to start.
As for whether Jack was lying to him, it was possible, but the chance was so small that it could almost be ignored.
First of all, Jack had the ability to snatch the Cosmic Cube away. The only reason they were having this conversation was because of Agent Carter.
On the other hand, about Thanos and the Chitauri, all he had to do was call back Captain Marvel and ask a few questions. Jack obviously knew about Carol's existence and wouldn't have made up something that could be easily denied.
If Thanos' goal was really the Cosmic Cube, then it was truly dangerous, but it was impossible that Nick would just hand it over to him.
"I know you have many questions."
Jack interrupted before Nick could speak.
"Let me just say this, the reason Thanos hasn't come to Earth to find the Cosmic Cube is that we have two major powerful individuals to protect Earth. He wouldn't do anything crazy, but this won't last forever."
This was not a lie. As long as the Ancient One and Odin were still alive, Thanos would not come to Earth to cause trouble, at most, he would send his subordinate to pressure them. But those were all minor matters.
But both of them had died in the future, and it was only because of their deaths that Thanos had the guts to come to earth.
Nick, of course, had no idea. His eyes lit up when he heard that Earth was being protected but then darkened again.
As the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., he was not the type of person to pin his hopes on others. He lowered his eyes and furrowed his brows, trying his best to think about what to do.
Should he continue to hold onto the Tesseract?
He dared not, even though he didn't know whether what Jack said was true or not, but he didn't dare to take the risk.
"Even if I trust you and give you the Cube." Nick looked up at Jack, "What would you do if Thanos someday came to Earth to take the Tesseract?"
If the Cube was in his hands or in S.H.I.E.L.D.'s possession, it was still on Earth, and then there would be no way to avoid Thanos' attack.
What was the point?
"First of all, the Tesseract is safer in my hands than in S.H.I.E.L.D." Jack replied, raising his eyebrows.
Nick Fury couldn't argue with that.
"Secondly, Thanos is not my opponent."
"..."
Nick expressed doubt at this point.
Seeing the other person's expression, Jack knew that he wouldn't believe him without some real evidence.
"Okay, okay."
Jack waved his hand helplessly and asked, "Do you like to read comics?"
"I have agents who like to read comics."
"Can you trust them?"
"Of course!"
"Call them over."
Five minutes later, Phil Coulson arrived as requested.
Seeing Jack there, Coulson remained calm and walked up to Nick Fury.
"You have something to tell me, sir!"
Nick didn't say anything, he just looked at Jack. Coulson also looked over instinctively when he noticed Nick's gaze.
"Coulson, do you like reading comics?"
"Yes, The Captain America series is my favorite!"
Although he didn't understand, Coulson respectfully answered him.
"Perhaps soon you'll be able to see him in person."
Jack smiled mysteriously, causing Nick and Coulson to frown at the same time.
What did he mean by that?
Jack didn't care about their reactions and continued, "So, have you read Superman comics?"
"Uh...yes, I have."
Coulson glanced at his boss with some confusion. He continued,
"Superman is the most popular character from DC Comics. It is said that Captain America inspired his creation, but unfortunately, DC Comics went bankrupt in the late 1990s."
[This is MARVEL Universe, of course they will choose Captain America over Superman]
"How much do you know about Superman? Can you tell me his abilities?"
"Superman?" Coulson was even more confused. "Uh...heat vision, super hearing, indestructible body, flight at the speed of light, super breath, basically that's it...wait, what?!"
Coulson's words were cut off as if he was being choked, and he even took two steps back with his hands on his gun holster.
Nick wasn't as nervous as Caulson, but he was close. He finally got up from his beloved chair.
The two men looked at Jack floating in the air with shock and amazement, with their arms crossed.
"I don't want to brag, but you leave me no choice," Jack sighed, opening his hands.
"I'm taking you somewhere."
With that, he snapped his fingers, and the next moment, the three of them disappeared into thin air.
In the depths of the Sahara Desert, a massive sandstorm was raging, sweeping across the entire sky and ground. The violent wind whistled, and yellow sand flew in the sky. This place had become a dangerous zone, and even the toughest insects couldn't survive there.
Suddenly, three people appeared in the middle of the huge sandstorm.
And then, slowly, the sandstorm disappeared.
Along with it, the desert vanished too.
Coulson and Nick looked down at what should have been the desert, stunned and speechless.
'This is the desert?' They thought
That huge wasteland became a white, icy snowfield, and if many people were here, they would believe it was in Antarctica.
But looking into the distance, they saw the faint yellow area and the scorching sun in the sky, and both of them were sure that they had not left the Sahara.
Suddenly, Coulson realized something and looked at his boss with a blank expression.
"Boss, you didn't say he was a Superman."
"I didn't know until now either," replied Nick Fury.
Jack flew slowly to the two of them, looking serious. "So, can I have the Tesseract now?"
"If you want, I can also show you what heat vision looks like." As he spoke, a dazzling white light appeared in his eyes.
Nick was speechless, while Coulson was in shock.
