18 Chapter 18. The Phantom Thief Reappears

The shareholders' meeting ended hastily because of Tony Stark's attitude.

"How did I do?"

On the way to his office, Tony turned to Pepper and asked.

"You were a bit too much, Tony." The little chilli Pepper spoke bluntly, "Mr Lynch is only doing it out of concern ..."

"He's just concerned about his pocket." Tony interrupted Pepper's correction with a disdainful look, "In fact, Stark Industries has earned them endless wealth in the past few years, but they're never satisfied. Instead, they're even more greedy. I think they need a new hobby instead of making money, maybe fishing or something? "

Pepper: "Tony."

"Tony is right." At this moment, Obadiah chimed in, "They're just a few insignificant minority shareholders; it's not going to make a difference."

With someone backing him up, Tony felt proud as he turned his head and shrugged at Pepper with an expression that said 'I'm right' and stepped into the elevator.

"You're spoiling him. It's because you've been shielding him; he doesn't know when to stop." Seeing that, Pepper complained to Obadiah with a helpless look on her face.

"Okay, it's all my fault." Obadiah smiled nonchalantly. He waved his hand and shouted at Tony before the elevator doors closed, "Hey Tony, don't forget your promise in the board meeting."

"Don't worry, I won't."

In the elevator, Tony pressed the button and answered confidently.

Obadiah stood at the doors of the elevator, looked at the rising elevator, and withdrew his smile. He adjusted his collar and pressed the button of the elevator on the other side with a cold expression.

  ...

"So, what's next on the itinerary?" Tony asked as he stepped out of the elevator.

Pepper: "MIT is inviting you to be the guest speaker at their graduation ceremony this year ..."

Tony raised an eyebrow, surprised, "Didn't they already invite me last time?"

Pepper: "I know, but you stood them up that time."

Tony suddenly nodded, "Oh, I remember. I was in a bit of a pickle that time."

Pepper added with an expressionless face, "You mean the two twin model girlfriends."

Tony: "Actually, they weren't my girlfriends. How would I know the media would run with that? "

Pepper took a deep breath and said, "Tony, there are times when I really think you're a complete and utter prick."

"I've never denied it." Tony stretched out his hands and walked into the middle of the office with an unconcerned look on his face.

Walking into the office, Tony first poured himself a glass of alcohol.

"Tony, there's still an important meeting scheduled for later."

"That's why I didn't pour one for you, my reliable personal assistant."

Ignoring Pepper's warning, Tony savoured his glass of excellent wine as he strolled over to his desk.

Then, he saw a card on the table.

"Jarvis, has anyone been in my office?" Tony placed the red wine glass in his hand and slowly walked over to the card.

"No, sir." From mid-air, Jarvis, the A.I butler's voice rang out.

"What's the matter, Tony?" When she noticed the change in his tone, Pepper started to look concerned.

"Looks like someone secretly sent me a letter." Tony picked up the card on the table and glanced at its contents, then raised an eyebrow of his own in return.

After taking the card in Tony's hand, Pepper read what was on it.

Notice: On Saturday night, as the clock strikes zero, I will come and take the iron ride.

-- Phantom Thief Kid.

"Jarvis, pull up all Phantom Thief Kid's past records for me."

"Certainly, sir."

At Tony's command, Jarvis immediately projected a virtual screen in the office, listing all the information about Phantom Thief Kid, news reports, and even information about the investigation within the police department.

"I think we'd better call the police, Tony." Pepper looked at everything displayed on the screen and couldn't help worrying.

"Jarvis, help me contact the NY..."

"Wait a minute," Tony spoke, interrupting Pepper's next words. His eyes flashed on the virtual screen in front of him, and he looked at the man in a white suit, cape and top hat in the news reports. His eyes flashed with intense curiosity.

"Pepper, don't you think it's funny?" Tony waved his finger, hiding the pictures of the messages from the virtual screen, leaving only the one about the April Fool's Day report, "A master thief, active in New York, sent a teaser letter to me."

"There's nothing funny about it, Tony." Pepper's face was stern as she said, "You have become a target for a criminal. That's a dangerous thing."

"But, judging from Phantom Thief's past cases, he's not too dangerous. He's just using magic tricks to steal things."

"I can't let you risk it, Tony. Your safety is very important to Stark Industries."

"Just Stark Industries?"

"And me."

"All right." Tony shrugged his shoulders as if he was persuaded by Pepper's words.

"By the way, what day is it today?"

"Saturday." Pepper subconsciously blurted out a reply before reacting and looking up at Tony, "You're not going to listen to me, are you?"

"Yep." Tony nodded in affirmation.

"You really are a jerk."

"Thanks for the compliment."

  ...

Saturday, at a midnight party.

Tony sat in his car, silently looking at the notice letter left by the Phantom Thief Kid in his hand, a little lost in thought.

"Tony, we're here."

In the driver's seat, Happy Hogan, the driver and bodyguard, took one look at the situation in front of him and then turned his head to Tony, who was sitting in the back seat and reminded him.

"Uh? Oh!"

Hearing Happy's voice, Tony snapped back to his senses. He folded the letter in his hand and looked out the window, at the lively party scene, with a subconscious smile on his lips. However, he was very concerned about the Phantom Thief; for Tony, who was still immersed in the playboy status, everything in front of him the goal of his enjoyment.

"The usual rules, Happy."

"I understand."

Tony left a casual remark and was about to get out of the car when he suddenly thought of something and stopped what he was doing. He turned back to Happy in the car and said, "Happy, this time, let me keep the keys."

"All right." It was a bit strange how Tony had suddenly changed his mind for no apparent reason, but Happy, the driver, nodded his head and agreed without much thought.

'Well, you're the boss...'
