57 Chapter 57: Phantom Spider and Black Cat

"Bang!"

A dark figure landed on the rooftop, splashing many droplets of water.

The crouched figure on the ground slowly stood up.

She had long silver-gray hair, which even the black uniform couldn't completely conceal, accentuating her exaggerated figure.

After taking a glance around the surroundings, she turned around.

Even though the night completely obscured her, Peter could still see her green eyes beneath the mask.

Her pupils, resembling those of a black cat, sparkled in the night.

After confirming no one was around, she walked to the edge of the rooftop, glanced down, and then gracefully jumped down, stretching her body as she did so.

Catching onto the window opened halfway up the building, the shadow effortlessly jumped in through the window.

Her landing was as silent and nimble as a cat's.

The room she entered was Matt Murdock's law firm.

At this moment, the law firm seemed deserted, with all rooms pitch black and no sound to be heard.

After entering the room, the shadow quickly surveyed the surroundings before walking to the safe.

It seemed she was particularly interested in the safe.

However, she soon stopped in her tracks, hesitated for a moment, abandoned the safe, and walked towards a painting hanging on the wall.

It was a creepy oil painting emitting a cold light.

In the painting, a bearded giant Jehovah was casting a group of screaming people into the fiery hell from the clouds.

Below them, terrifying black figures struggled in the flames of destruction, while a demon sat on a huge fiery throne, wielding a trident.

The black figures had human bodies, jackal-like heads, and spiked tails.

After staring at the painting for a moment, she reached out to take it down.

Meanwhile,

Gwen stood at the top of the clock tower, feeling the cold drops of rain falling from the sky.

Although her body was now immune to the cold, she still instinctively crossed her arms.

She looked at her wrist and glanced at her watch.

The hands of the watch pointed to eleven, about to enter the midnight hour.

Half an hour ago, she received a call from an unknown number.

The caller claimed to be Matt Murdock's lawyer, stating they could help cure her father's illness.

Although she was skeptical of the caller's words, she had no other option but to try.

Before meeting the caller, Gwen specifically researched Matt Murdock online.

She found out he had a bad reputation and close ties to the mob, not seeming like a good person.

After hesitating for a moment, she took out a mask from her pocket.

The white mask covered her entire face, with transparent eyeholes and a red border around them.

It resembled Spider-Man's mask but in white, with a more feminine touch.

"If I wear this mask," Gwen hesitated, wiping the raindrops off the mask, "maybe I'll shoulder a responsibility, meaning I'll have to live with this mask on, having two completely different lives."

Gwen felt a heavy feeling in her heart, as if her life was about to change.

She glanced at the law firm not far away, took a deep breath, put on the mask, and then pulled up the hood of her hoodie.

Then she took off the watch from her wrist and put on the web shooter.

"Swoosh!"

The web shot out from her wrist, and Gwen swung towards her destination.

Inside Matt Murdock's law firm.

The silver-haired figure was about to take down the painting hanging on the wall.

"Hey, do you need this?" a voice came from behind her.

The silver-haired figure turned around to see Gwen standing behind her with her hands on her hips.

After infiltrating the place wearing her mask, Gwen noticed the figure attempting to steal.

She thought the figure was just a petty thief trying to steal the painting.

Although it didn't concern her, watching a thief steal without doing anything didn't sit right with her.

The silver-haired figure was also surprised to see a stranger appearing behind her.

The timing of Gwen's appearance caught her off guard.

"If I were you, I'd turn a blind eye and continue wearing the mask while strolling around the streets, not getting involved in dangerous activities like this," Gwen said as she approached. "Maintaining the city's reputation requires everyone to do their part."

"Thief?" Hearing herself being called a thief, the silver-haired figure chuckled. "Your understanding is quite skewed. A thief should meticulously plan and rehearse, right? But my actions have nothing to do with that."

As she spoke, she took the painting and broke it in half.

Gwen, seeing the figure about to take the painting, attempted to stop her.

"Swoosh!" Spider silk shot out from her web shooter towards the figure.

The silver-haired figure reacted quickly, dodging the silk with agility.

After landing, in the blink of an eye before Gwen could react, with a crisp sound, the figure broke the painting in half.

Gwen watched in astonishment as the figure damaged the painting, momentarily stunned.

Ignoring Gwen, the silver-haired figure retrieved a USB drive from the broken painting and casually tossed the pieces on the floor.

"If you like this painting, it's yours, pajama girl," the silver-haired woman said, blowing a kiss at Gwen before preparing to leave.

Gwen, hearing herself being called a pajama girl, almost exploded with anger.

She was clearly wearing a hoodie, albeit a casual style, but it was definitely not pajamas.

Just as she was about to stop the figure, the room's lights suddenly came on.

The spacious room was instantly illuminated as bright as day.

Gwen's eyes quickly adjusted to the bright light, and she looked towards the source of the voice.

She saw a man wearing red sunglasses standing at the doorway.

He was dressed in a black suit, holding a cane, exuding a lazy yet dangerous aura.

Behind him stood several ninjas dressed in black, completely covered, looking intimidating.

"Tonight my office is quite lively. The last time it was this lively was on the day the firm opened," Matt pushed up his sunglasses, gazing at Gwen. "It's quite surprising, Miss Gwen, to see you appearing in this attire."
