39 THE MARROW DEVOURER (chapter)

A/N: I AM BACK. Though I still can't use my right hand to type as it feels foreign or prosthetic (since I haven't been using it for an entire month), there is no wound, so I should be back to writing in a week. But don't worry, I have 8 chapters in stock that just need editing, so enjoy this chapter, and I will try to see if I can upload daily (as we reach 1 million views, all thanks to uploading daily... and you guys, of course).

However, while I was recovering, I tried to type using my left hand (super difficult, by the way, especially with a non-dominant hand), and I got pretty far actually, chapter 45 to be exact. This was mostly due to me doing nothing but sitting in my bed, so I had hours to write as many chapters as I could. The fanfic is about a reincarnator in the Marvel world with a system called the Magic Maker System, which allows him to create his own spells (I love mages, in case you couldn't tell). So yeah, now he is currently at Baldur's Gate due to a temporal dagger. DID I ALSO MENTION THAT HE'S PUT TO TRIAL AND HAS TO FIGHT MONSTERS EVERY NIGHT?

Chapter 39

The eyes of a frail-looking vampire frantically scanned the surroundings, unaware of the danger lurking behind. In a swift motion, an extremely sharp bone blade flew through the air, piercing the vampire's head with deadly accuracy. The vampire's lifeless body crumpled to the ground as the blade retracted, its edges now glistening with the blood of its victim. Oliver stood behind the fallen vampire, observing the bone blade with a mix of awe and calculation. The blood seeping into the sword seemed to invigorate it, enhancing its sharpness with each drop.

Glancing at the status panel of the blade, Oliver read aloud:

[ Name: Marrow Devourer ]

[ Grade: Purple(peak) ]

[ Description: Forged from the twisted bone of an ancient Eldritch Marrow God, this short sword is a relic of unimaginable power. It hungers for the essence of its foes, growing in size and strength to become an unstoppable force. The blade, unable to be sharpened by conventional means, has nevertheless been wielded by its creator to slay many demons. ]

[ Option 1: Abyssal Devourer - Upon slaying a foe, the sword devours their essence, increasing its sharpness. Piercing damage is enhanced by 50% for each kill (kills: 134) (Rank: E) (Passive) ]

[ Option 2: Spectral Vanquisher - has a 50% chance to Unleash a wave of spectral energy every successful strike, bypassing defenses and dealing 50% extra damage to ethereal or magical beings (Rank: E) (Passive) ]

[ Durability: 99% ]

"Still not enough," Oliver groaned, his eyes reflecting a determination tempered by the challenges ahead. His attention then shifted to the military-grade box within the warehouse, the object that these vampires were guarding. With a swift stroke of his bone blade, he cut through the box, only to feel resistance as his blade struck something hard. Vibrations coursed through the marrow devourer as it met the metal inside.

Picking up the bar of adamantium, Oliver's lips curled into a satisfied smile. "Adamantium, the most indestructible metal in the world. Guess the rumors were true." This metal, the same substance that coated Wolverine's claws and skeletal system, was a coveted find in this chaotic world. Oliver had been after it ever since learning of its existence.

"I could have made a sword from it," he mused to himself, "but I don't need a sword that can cut through almost anything when I have a blade that can continuously sharpen and improve itself." The Marrow Devourer was his weapon of choice, evolving with each kill. What he needed now was a way to defend himself continuously, without relying solely on his offensive capabilities. His defensive options had limitations, particularly their reliance on mana.

"And I just might have an idea," Oliver declared to himself, determination shining in his eyes. With that thought, he set to work. Every preparation was a step towards the impending battle against an immortal, sorcerer eldritch god. He knew he would need every weapon and strategy at his disposal.

Suddenly, Oliver paused as the all-seeing eye necklace around his neck glowed briefly. In that fleeting moment, a vision flashed before his eyes. He saw himself in an abandoned ruin, surrounded by a multitude of creatures — vampires, werewolves, and other supernatural beings. Most of them lay dead, defeated by his hand. He was clad in full red and black armor, wielding both the Pilgrim Blade and the Marrow Devourer. In mid-leap, he was headed straight for Adana, who stood with her hands outstretched, the full moon casting an eerie glow between them.

"Finally, this damn all-seeing eye provided a useful glimpse into the future instead of visions of me with a blond-haired woman with white lipstick, Orora, or a woman in a green dress with a two-horned helmet." Oliver chuckled to himself, recalling the odd visions he often received. Most of his glimpses into the future consisted of him carving, smelting, or the most frequent visions: indulging with several women—nine women in total. Some he knew and had no intention of sleeping with. After analyzing the future he just received, Oliver chuckled to himself.

"Well, looks like I completed the Draconic armor." With that thought, he left to do just that, preparing for a war with an immortal eldritch goddess, determined to emerge victorious.

-Scene Change-

Inside his shell home, Oliver, clad only in boxers, worked diligently on the Draconic suit. It was now nearly complete, hanging on a wooden armor display. However, there were still finishing touches to be done. "And I still need to give them options," he sighed, glancing back at the running smelter. Despite activating the active option on the smelter, the adamantium still refused to melt. He didn't mind; it only validated its reputation. "It's really one tough metal to melt," he muttered, looking at his wooden hand shield mold.

The wooden mold was detailed, painstakingly crafted. His lips curled up slightly as he admired his work. "I really am getting good at carving," he thought. Hours upon hours had been spent carving several models. Among them, a wooden carving of a gauntlet stood out, alongside a small-scale model of the flying fishing boat. A wooden carving of a blade with a spider-like handle caught his eye, as did a Roman-styled sword among the resources, like the metal bowl containing the eldritch blood of the Marrow God and other materials.

[3 days later]

Standing in his shell, Oliver wore the full armor, the Draconic Armor. Its two straight horns faced upward, and the dark iron used in its crafting gave it a slightly eerie aura. The deep, dark shade of blue added to its imposing presence. While the armor was detailed, it seemed to lack a certain something, a mark of forged items refined for hours. Despite this, the armor's options more than made up for it.

"Unlike the Pilgrim Blade, the grade on this armor is peak blue," Oliver noted. Glancing at the options of the item, any initial complaints about its appearance vanished. The intricate engravings glinted in the light, telling a tale of craftsmanship and power. The Abyssal Devourer option pulsated with potential, ready to grow stronger with each foe it vanquished. The Spectral Vanquisher option whispered of ethereal destruction, a force to be reckoned with against magical beings. Oliver ran his fingers over the curved edges of the armor, feeling the power within. It was time to face the eldritch abomination once and for all.
