10 New home (chapter 10)

Chapter 10

In one of the bustling shops in Chinatown, Oliver, looking sharp, entered through the back room of Miss Su's shop. The kind old lady had graciously allowed him to purchase the basement section of her shop, previously unused. Opening the back door led him through the kitchen where Miss Su's disapproving nephew, a kitchen worker, paid little attention to Oliver's presence. The nephew had reservations about Miss Su giving Oliver the basement, despite his payment for it.

After passing through the bustling kitchen, Oliver arrived at a door adorned with a combination lock, its silver surface gleaming. The lock, with its subtle magical aura, deterred tampering attempts, making it resistant to unauthorized access. The door opened, revealing a small flight of stairs that led to another door.

Entering through this door, Oliver found himself in a spacious area with a double-story height. No floor separated the two levels except for a small platform at the back, where stairs ascended along the left sidewall. The entire space was windowless, featuring only two small rooms—one serving as a toilet. On the platform, an old dining table, adorned with several planter pots emitting a soft, enchanting glow, occupied the space. The pots had the same enchantments as the humble planter pot. At the lower part of the home, an old sofa, two coolers, three nightstands, and boxes—three of them military-grade—lined the area, all sharing the same enchantment.

A small desk with a chair featured three books, one a regular school book, another with its covers removed, and a third accompanied by a small battery-powered lamp. Nearby, a large battery-powered lamp provided sunlight for the plants—a lamp specifically designed for plant growth, which Oliver had purchased and was the focus of his next options.

On the lower floor, a worn-out sofa welcomed Oliver. He placed his hooded coat on the sofa before ascending the stairs to his small desk.

Which was also his workshop. The books that were in the middle of being customized were more than just books; they were ideas, concepts. Each one represented a hail mary shot, a hope that once given an option, he would obtain the desired outcome. As he finished each book, the anticipation lingered, hoping its effects would match his aspirations. One book held a to-do list, outlining the tasks he needed to accomplish. Another was a sketchbook adorned with drawings.

Sitting down, he briefly glanced at his status screen, sighing at the constant grind. "This 1,000 XP requirement is getting tiring."

[Name: Oliver]

[MP: 2.69/2.69 (1 MP lasts for 1 minute, 1 MP can be recovered every minute)]

Dismissing the status panel, he muttered, "Well, at least I'm 10% in." Another sigh escaped as he opened his to-do list book. Various tasks filled the pages, but at the top were urgent needs: an electric smelter, a sand caster/mold, and an engine. "Of course, I am going to need money," Oliver thought, realizing his current broke status. He had spent all his money on securing the place and buying items, eagerly waiting to customize them with options.

He picked up the sketchbook with light sketches of suits. These were his thoughts about the suits he wanted to create from scratch, his main suit with extraordinary options and crafted from high-end, durable, and magical metal. "It's going to be top of the line," he mused, the idea of designing and customizing it already enticing. But he had to refocus. "It's not time yet," he reminded himself, smiling.

Picking up his to-do book, he muttered, "Now, it's time for my second job." Flipping through the pages filled with notes, drawings, and time stamps, a small letter map fell out. Opening it, he examined it closely. "From the outside and the people coming in and out of that building, it looks quite juiced. Hopefully, I won't be disappointed."

Oliver had already scouted his target, a luxurious penthouse with surveillance cameras. Memories of his first heavily guarded target surfaced, but he pushed them aside, moving back to his planning. His attention, however, was diverted by a sleek silver and black single-shot, six-round shotgun. He couldn't help but smile as he picked it up. The gun emitted a vibrant hue of energy, unlike the non-glowing grappling hook beside it.

----------------------------------

A/N ok, I now this 1,000 exp requirement is getting tiring but you will understand why the requirement are so high up once he levels up, and the skill itself would evolve so it won't as strict as it, just of this first level as a sort of bottleneck that he has to overcome.

PS: just reading the 900s chapter of shadow slave which gave an an idea to create a fanfic with system that puts the mc into different world as a sort of a nightmare seed which he would then be given a mission to complete and each nightmare seed is a different movie.
