Chapter 063 Discovery

Chapter 063

As Alex was busy with his sword lessons, Peter was thinking hard about the creature he and Lycan had fought on the bridge that day.

He wasn't able to get it out of his mind as he researched reptile creatures, trying to find a clue about the creature.

His intuition was telling him that something big was going to happen soon with the Lizard at the center and he needed to stop it.

Gwen had told him to lay low, to not get involved in stuff that could potentially kill him. But it was already too late for him to back down.

From the time he had seen Uncle Ben nearly die due to the criminal he had let go of, Peter had been thinking hard about his choices and responsibility for his powers.

In the meantime, he had created his web shooters, more as an experiment rather than to fight crime.

But at the expo, when he had seen people dying due to the drones, he had been unable to just run like the other people, especially when he had powers to make a difference.

'With Great powers comes Great responsibility!'

That's what Uncle Ben would always say to him and Peter has finally learnt the meaning of those words after going through life changing events in the past few months.

It is because of that he felt like he needed to deal with the Lizard.

It was his responsibility to protect others because he has the powers to do so.

'Dr. Connors would surely be able to help me in this.'

To find out more about reptiles, he went to Dr. Connors' private lab, hoping to get some clues on how to deal with the large creature.

But as soon as he stepped in, he found out that the lab seemed empty. There was no one else there and the atmosphere was a bit off.

"Hello?" He called out, as he walked inside the lab. "Anyone here?"

There was no reply and an eerie silence overlapped the whole lab. Peter silently walked and started to look around, picking up an object he didn't really understand the purpose of.

At that moment, a voice called him out from behind.

"It's not nice to snoop." He turned around, only to find Dr. Connors standing there with a stale expression on his face. "I gave everyone the week off."

"Yeah." Peter nodded, finding Dr. Connors, a little weirder than usual.

"Shouldn't you be at school?" He asked.

"No, I got a free track. I wanted to ask you a question."

Peter shook his head and asked, finding Dr. Connors stranger and stranger by the second. His hair was a little wet, his skin yellow and he looked like he had grown old in just a day.

"What question?"

"How would a predator... track a reptile?"

Dr. Connors was surprised to hear that question but he still answered.

"Oh, they don't. Most reptiles are at the top... of their food chain. Kings of their domain."

"They've gotta have vulnerabilities." Peter said, making Dr. Connors wonder what his intentions were.

"Why the sudden interest in the cold-blooded, Peter?"

"Just asking a question. I got school stuff. Biology profiles to do." He explained. "So because of the cold blood... would they react to changes in temperatures?"

"You'd have to catch one first." Dr. Connors answered, then suddenly said something that sent a cold chill down his spine. "Did you know there's a rumour of a new species in New York? Beautiful and quite large."

It didn't take him much thinking to realise what Dr. Connors was hinting at. He hurriedly asked.

"What do you know about it? Have you seen it?"

"No, it's not yet classified." Dr. Connors shook his head. Then, strolled around the room making Peter follow him. "But it can be aggressive... if threatened."

"Doc, are you alright?" Peter asked, getting more worried.

"Never been better, Peter. Never been better." Dr. Connors smiled at him but it gave a crazy feeling to him rather than the usual smile.

"Now, if you'll excuse me. I'm afraid I have to ask you to leave. I... have a new project… that I'm working on. I need to be alone."

He said, waving his hand at Peter trying to get him to read, so he could focus on the evolution of mankind into something much faster, stronger and smarter.

"Are you gonna be okay?" Peter asked, worried about him.

"Don't worry, Mr. Parker. I'll be back. Wonderful things are coming. Wonderful things!"

He said and went back inside his lab.

'What's going on with doc?'

He wondered, finding his behavior and the conversation really strange. Dr. Connors was completely different from the last time he had seen him.

Just as he was about to leave, he suddenly heard a weird sound. He checked up around the lab for the sound and after moving a bit, he found the source of it.

In the corner of the laboratory, there was a mutant mouse running out of a glass box.

The glass box was chewed up by the sharp teeth of the mouse and what Peter saw was enough to make him take a step back in horror.

The mouse was eating the corpse of its companion. It had completely lost the appearance of a mouse and had completely changed into a ferocious monster.

"Fred?" Peter could hardly believe his eyes when he saw the mutant monster in the corner.

Dr. Connors's experiment to regenerate the limbs of Fred was unsuccessful, and the mice eventually mutated after fusing with lizard genes.

'Wait a moment… Dr. Connors… Lizard genes and that monster...'

At that moment, Peter suddenly linked the Lizard monster to Dr. Connors and his experiment of cross genes genetics.

He quickly made up a scenario in his head.

'Dr. Connors' experiment failed and due to the side effects, he became a giant lizard creature… I need to tell the police about it.'

He thought and ran out of Dr. Connors lab. Then, without stopping, he ran towards one of New York City's police stations.
