13 13. Spiderman

Adam sat facing the starry sky. The wind blew past his face, it was chilly. He looked down and saw the city going to sleep.

If anyone saw him right now they would scream out of their minds. Adam was sitting on the roof of a skyscraper, his legs dangling freely at the edge.

A pair of blood red eyes pierced through the darkness, it went past the city lights and focused on a figure several miles away from him.

This person was wearing a blue red costume and a mask. He was fighting two men with knifes and looked relaxed. Adam smirked seeing this costumed man.

"So Peter has already embarked on his journey to become the much loved Spiderman."

That's correct. The person wearing that weird costume was none other than Adam's good friend Peter Parker. Harry's doubt was spot on, Peter was acting weird because he was bitten by a spider and suddenly gained his powers.

"Not bad. That spider sense of his is quite good."

Adam's rating of Peter's spidy senses were just that. Of course such a rating had much to do with how carelessly and crudely Peter was using it.

"Looks like the gears of fate are shifting."

...

The days went by without any exceptional incidents. If anything Peter's uncle contacted Adam and asked him to look after Peter. He was worried since Peter was acting strange.

He reassured Uncle Ben and rubbed his temples. If anything Spiderman's first few months seems to be like an enlightenment in his life. He would understand what power is for, and the responsibility that comes with it.

Adam also made sure to remember about Ben Parker's death. That incident would lead Peter towards darkness for a short time before he pulls through.

Anyway Adam would never let that kind hearted man die. Humans dominate this world, all sorts of people can be found among the vast human population but one such as Ben Parker... a select few.

Also, Adam respected the Parker couple. In all these years other than his family he has never come across such kind hearted people. They raised Peter like their own, disciplining him, instilling values, morales and kindness a person should have.

Just this reason alone was enough for Adam to make sure no harm comes to them.

Adam continued to monitor Peter's endeavours and shook his head. Peter seems to be enjoying his work, catching burglars and thugs. But he totally lacked experience, if he fought someone stronger for example a war veteran, then he would fall, fall miserably.

While Adam was monitoring Peter something else was happening inside Osborn Industries.

"What!? One week!? That's not enough time. We haven't even started human trials yet!"

The usually amiable Doctor Connor was yelling at a neatly suited man, his face tinted with worry.

"Norman Osborn don't have much time Doctor. It's either you complete the research in one week or we take over. As for human trials... I can arrange that."

Connor immediately shook his head, "No! The serum isn't ready for human trials! Without making sure I don't want to risk innocent lives."

The other man shook his head.

"Whether it's ready or not doesn't matter. You have one week, I will arrange for test subjects. Remember Doctor, all of our lives depend on this project."

The man left after saying his piece. Connor sat powerlessly on his chair, his eyes showed pain and unwillingness but that feeling slowly changed.

"Take away my work? Not if I prove it right."

...

Adam was trailing behind an Ben Parker.

Earlier today he received Ben's call, he and Peter had a fight and Peter stormed off. Adam immediately left and found uncle Ben.

As they were walking people infront of them scurried away as a man holding a bag ran crazily towards Ben Parker.

Uncle Ben realised what was happening and didn't move. The man had a gun, he waved it around and rushed forward. Ben Parker nervously stood infront of him, ready to block the guy.

Adam trailing behind Ben flicked his finger. A shuriken shot through the air and stabbed the man's heart. The shuriken ripped through his chest and came through the back.

The man spat out blood and fell forward uncontrollably. Blood dyed the ground, a woman screamed and ran away.

Blood started to pool around the body. People crowded.

Adam sticked around till he saw Peter and left. He was relieved nothing went wrong, essentially he was rewriting history, Adam didn't know whether this was good or bad but if the same situation happened again, he would make the same choice.

Peter was a pure kid, the little argument he had with Ben Parker and the frustration that came with it disappeared when he saw his uncle again.

Peter hung his head down and apologized, "Sorry uncle Ben."

Ben Parker patted his shoulder, "It's alright Peter. We were just worried you would work yourself to death. May and I don't want to see you walk the same path as your father."

Peter just nodded, he felt guilty about saying those words.

Ben suddenly said, "Anyway, we need to go to the station to give our testimony."

"What for? There are enough people here."

Ben shook his head, "No Peter. I was standing right Infront of the man, I saw what happened clearly so I have to report it even without them asking."

Peter accompanied Ben to the station. The officers were stunned when they heard what he said.

"You are saying he just fell after showing a pained expression."

Ben confirmed, "Yes. He was running straight towards me, less than ten feet away he fell forward, dead."

The officers looked at each other sighed.

"Thank you for your help. The autopsy report should give us a clear view of what happened. Alan, drive them home."

Ben declined immediately, "It's alright. My nephew is with me, we will walk home."

"Ah that young kid. He seems like a fine young man, he kept asking the guard when it would be over. From his looks it would seem like we are holding you hostage."

Ben awkwardly laughed, "Haha, he isn't used to these kind of situations."

"It's alright. That just shows his character. Anyway please go with Alan, you took your time to come here and give us a proper statement at this time of night, so it's the least we can do."

Ben couldn't decline any further and accepted. He went out to see Peter sitting next to the guard speaking endlessly, the guard had a helpless expression on his face.

"Uncle Ben!", Peter saw Ben and immediately went to his side.

"Let's go. Your aunt will cook me alive if we are to drag on any longer."

The night was exhausting but somehow everything ended up alright.
