38 The final battle

"What do you really plan on doing with him?" Artemis asked as Howard injected Arthur with a mild anesthetic.

"Do you really want to know?" Howard said as he threw the knocked-out Arthur on the back of the car and got in himself.

"Is it going to be inhumane?"

"Depends..." Howard looked at Artemis who got on the back as he began driving off, "We aren't too far so be prepared, your sword's on the back."

"Don't deflect," Artemis said but Howard continued driving ignoring her. Howard didn't mean to hide things but he had other things running through his head, the moment he hit Arthur and made contact with his blood he could feel something, a force trying to reach out to him.

"Sure his powers do help me, but I have a bigger purpose." Ares said as he stood still under Diana's fierce gaze, "You know Diana, all I ever wanted was for the Gods to see how evil my father's creation was but they refused. So I destroyed them, so tell me, Diana, for someone who reigned war against Gods, do you think I will need the help of a human?"

"Yes, because you're not the same as you used to be," Diana leaped towards Ares swinging her sword at him but to her surprise, the god killer was caught with ease, not even a hassle on Ares part as the sword began disintegrating away.

"I am not as weak as you thought I was, now was I?" Ares smiled under Diana's trembling eyes as he punched her throwing her body away like a rag doll but she quickly got hold of her balance as she landed on her knees looking fiercely at Ares. She took out her lasso swinging it back at Ares but Ares again caught it with ease pulling her towards him as he kicked her away again.

Diana was falling when she suddenly felt someone grab her, as they landed with ease. A car came shoving towards Ares who stopped it with ease but the unexpectedness of it caused him to take a few steps backward. Diana was still a bit surprised especially by the words, the man who was no other than Howards whispered to her.

"Are we late?" Howard stood up.

"You're just in time." Ares answered as he glanced at Arthur who was in Artemis's arms as she had jumped out at the same time too, "A disappointment nonetheless."

"Oh, he's still alive." Howard said, "But Jesus does your plan suck. I mean, if you were going to get someone at least get one who would reveal their weakness to you or at least know it yourself, or does your god pride won't allow you to do that?"

Ares narrowed his eyes, as Howard continued, "That guy wants to be valued by you so obviously he won't go ahead and tell you that his weakness is fucking jewelry."

Ares didn't say anything when Victor came flying in towards them crashing into the metal fence. "A little help?"

Howard frowned as he looked at Diana who nodded at him and rushed towards Ares. "Let's go."

"What about him?" Artemis pointed at Arthur.

"Oh, he's going to be out for a long time, so just leave him there." Howard didn't look back at all as he went towards Victor, "So?"

"In simple, the germans broke off a vial in their hand, took a whiff off some gas from it and they practically became superhumans," Victor said,

"All of them?"

"Yup!" Victor nodded, "The others ran out of bullets and are completely useless against them and as for us it's a bit too much to handle all of them at once. Oh! and Ludendorff's trying to escape through that plane."

"Take this and give it to Steve, tell him to read what's inside there." Howard said, "Artemis will join you guys and I'll head for Ludendorff."

Throwing a bag towards Victor, Howard rushed towards the plane that was seconds away from taking off.

"Well, shit!" Victor rushed towards where Steve and the others were hiding out and as for Artemis, she didn't hesitate much as she rushed into the battle where the soldiers were literally tearing James apart.

Artemis began slashing her way through, one by one but she soon started facing the same problems Victor and James did. There were just too many of them, their strength wasn't much of a problem for her but with many of them at once along with a few snipers shooting at them, it was harder than expected.

Stabbing one of them through the head, James was back to back with Artemis breathing heavily. "Fuck, why can't something be normal for a change."

"Normal is too boring at least for me," Artemis said slashing one of the guy's hands away as she kicked him away, "Now, this is a battle fitting for the Amazons."

"Did my brother bite you or do you just get crazy for the battle?"

"Bite me? Oh! you mean if he influenced me." Artemis who looked a little different from usual said with a huge smile, "Maybe a little bit of both. I've just been holding it all in and now it's finally the time to let it all out. No more strategies, no more manipulations, it's just the pure battle that will decide it all."

James was getting a bit afraid of the girl as he felt his wounds heal and at the corner of his eye caught Victor rushing towards them. "You think you can handle them?"

"Why?"

"Those snipers are getting quite annoying, don't you think?" James said as he rushed out of the crowd towards Victor, "The snipers, you handle the left, I handle the right."

-----------------------------------

"Damn it!" Ludendorff yelled at the top of his lungs, with all the sudden change he had no choice but to escape. Just a couple of hours ago, A god showed himself to him promising him victory and countless rewards waiting for him. Honestly, he didn't even think much and agreed to it all.

The god warned him against enemies and that he had to act quickly, so he gathered all the resources he could including weapons, soldiers, and Dr. Maru's invention which the god himself blessed the formula with, that allowed one to over-limit their own human capacity.
