9 Failure!

Asura sat in his room with his head down in sadness. Carol had just delivered the news of Jay Guthrie's death.

' How am I going to tell that poor woman? One of her children depowered, one downstairs fighting for his life right now, and one dead.'

Asura thought as he remembered the events that had taken place within this short week.

Flashback.

" Still chasing that fantasy life of yours, Carol Danvers? Tell us...Are you the world's greatest hero yet? Have you done any daytime talk shows lately?"

Emma asked as she entered the room where Scott, Carol, and Asura were waiting.

" Emma."

" Emma, you need to hear what carol."

" Oh, I know why she's here scott. I read her mind the moment I heard she was here. Has carol told you why she's really here? Because it isn't to tell us about jay."

Emma said causing scott and Asura to look at the woman.

" What? Carol?"

Scott asked.

" It is...But I...I also wanted to talk to you guys about the registration act."

Hearing these words, asura spun around and lifted carol up by her neck.

" You want us to do what?"

Asura asked angrily, squeezing the life from carol as she struggled to break free.

' No, Now isn't the time to start a battle, Emma. But if they try to force it on us, be ready. Because I'm going to blow.'

" Scott...I know that mutants have been persecuted by the government. I know you've had to deal with registration before. I know about genosha. But you saw what happened in Stamford. It's exactly these kinds of atrocities we want to put an end to. I know the X-men want the same thing. I know, because I've fought beside you. I know what the x men did in the house of M for everyone. But this is the right thing to do now. We can work together..."

Carol said firmly trying to argue her case.

" Touching. And yes, Carol we saw what happened in Stamford because the X-men went there to help. Which begs the question, where were the avengers when we needed help? Where were you?"

Emma asked.

" In the past few days, we've been fighting for our lives. Yesterday Stryker and his purifiers, today the purifiers, sentinels, and nimrod. And I don't remember seeing any of you there to help us. They weren't even after the adults they wanted children. CHILDREN!"

Emma yelled showing Carol all of the events that had happened in just a few short days.

" This is what happens when people know where to find mutants, Ms. Danvers. So, unless you want to grab a shovel and help us bury another innocent life. We have no more business to discuss."

Emma said ending the visions.

" This isn't what I intended. I just wanted to ask...I just wanted to help."

Carol said wiping tears from her eyes.

" Thank you, but you're a little late."

Emma said coldly.

" Scott."

" Come on Carol. I'll walk you out."

Scott said as he and carol got ready to leave.

" Oh, and Carol...If your war is anything like mutant kinds...You're going to need a lot of shovels."

Emma and asura sat in silence for a few minutes before Emma started crying.

'She acts like such a cold-hearted bitch, but she does care for the students.'

" Jay Gutherie is dead!"

" Oh no." Noriko said.

Sooraya had no words she only cried.

" I'm sorry sooraya. I don't know if this helps but know that Jay cared about you deeply."

Asura said putting his hand on the woman's shoulder.

" Who did it?!"

Julian yelled his eyes glowing green.

" The purifiers."

Asura said.

" How do you know?"

Noriko asked

" Because his body was found at one of their hideouts."

Asura said.

" Then let's go get those bastards."

Julian said

" They're already dead. Nimrod killed them before coming here."

" So, we can't even avenge his death? What kind of shit is that?"

" I'm sorry everyone. Laura let's go."

Asura said as he turned to leave.

As the two walked back to their room. Laura noticed that something was wrong.

' He's never been this quiet.'
