Martian ecosystem. Explaining and exploring the deep forest

I give a lot of info regarding the place I call the deep forest. The way that I set up the martian ecosystem is how an ocean would work, there are shallow parts of the forest where smaller creatures live, and as you go deeper into the forest the less light there is and the more dangerous the creatures get.

The shallows: Small creatures similar to earth squirrels, prairie dogs, and other herbivores and small carnivores that eat the small insects of the shallows. nearly every plant in the shallows is bioluminescent so it is the most well-lit section of the forest,

The descent: This area of the forest is on an incline sloping downward toward an expanse of black trenches where it looks as if the forest was burned away and never regrew. The descent is made up of many cliffs and caves that connect the entire section of the forest. It is the densest in regard to a variety of species, mc spent the most time in this ecosystem, the white spines make this forest and maze of tunnels its home

The Black Trench: There is no bioluminescence rendering the biome completely pitch black the only light coming from lava shifting beneath the black glass of the trenches walls, This part of the forest is similar to the extreme depths of the ocean on earth and is filled with strange blind creatures that rely on strange and specialized methods of survival. The Blind behemoths and Azathoth's live in the depths of the black trench
