25 Tell me your wish

Before Nathan could answer, Eve scolded, "he races for Mercedes, how is that going to look if he suddenly started driving around in a Porsche? What will his teammates think? What will his coach say? What will his sponsors do?"

Her question was entirely rhetorical, Mr Tang felt his face drop. It was something he had overlooked. He looked at his wife for advice.

Eve seemed to be on a ranting mission because she continued on defiantly, "our house is turning into a bloody Porsche garage! What is it with you and Porsches?!"

Mrs Tang opened her mouth and was about to say something in her defence, only to close it again.

She had a Porsche convertible and now the twins had one each. That made it three in total, which was hardly enough to be classified as a garage. What sort of a garage only had three cars? She wanted to say but Mr Tang interjected.

"We could always exchange it for a Lotus? Or maybe a Range Rover instead? They are quite sturdy and reliable cars..."

He turned to Nathan as if seeking his opinion.

"I don't think my team would mind whichever car I drove outside work," Nathan stated. His mind wasn't even on the car.

Eve pinched his arm in protest. What was he doing? Not sticking up for her like that! Thanks a lot Nathan!

"Why don't you two take it for a test drive and see if you like it?" Mr Tang suggested.

Her hand was starting to get sore from pinching Nathan's arm, he had too much muscle, it was like pinching a rock! Eve complained inwardly.

"OK, I'm coming in the same car as you, you can drive but not too fast!" She shot Nathan a warning look. Or else. If the wind messed up her hair, there will be a price to pay.

The guests followed them downstairs to the garden and parked in front of the gates were two shiny, brand new Porsche convertibles wrapped in two huge gold bows.

One was in the colour red and the other in silver. Eve felt a smile creeping up on her face. They were absolutely gorgeous! Especially her one. Already she could see herself driving around town in it. She will be the envy of everyone.

"Do you like it?" Mr Tang asked tentatively, noticing the change in her mood.

She nodded and could no longer hide her smile. She grinned at him like a well-behaved, happy child, the total opposite of the monster she had been a few minutes ago.

"Thank you, Daddy!" She said sweetly. She had the best father in the whole wide world.

Mr Tang gently rubbed the top of her hand, glad that she was finally happy again. He hated it whenever she goes into one of her notorious temper tantrums. They say daughters were their father's lover in their previous life, the words couldn't be more true.

Eve tugged Nathan's sleeve, "have you thanked Daddy for your present yet?" She asked tentatively.

Nathan was used to her ever-changing mood swings, it was faster than the change in weather, one minute it was raining then it was bursting with sunshine.  To make life easier, he just agreed with her. "Thanks, Dad," he muttered.

"I'm glad you both liked it." Mr Tang patted his shoulder and smiled happily. He glanced at Mrs Tang and gave her a relieved smile. He knew he could trust her with the choice of presents. She was a pro at this, she has never failed him before.

"Let's take it for a spin now!" Eve urged, she could see Caitlin waving at her in the crowds and she waved back like a Queen. She cannot wait to get the car and feel the evening breeze going through her hair. It was going to be wonderful.

The servants removed the huge bow from the top of the car and Eve got in the passenger side next to Nathan. It even smelled new! She thought in amazement, feeling super excited.

Mr Tang watched Nathan reverse out of the driveway and he placed his arm around his wife, feeling like the luckiest man on earth. It was worth it, just to see his children smile.

Once they disappeared out of the front gates, Mr Tang gestured for the guests to return inside for more food and drinks. He had the best food and wine ready.  It was a party after all.

As they drove along the road, Eve turned to Nathan, "what did you wish for earlier?" She asked curiously.

He paused momentarily, "oh, nothing really. What about you?"

She glanced up at the starry sky and said with a hint of sadness, "I wished good times will last forever and every day could be like this for the rest of our lives."

Nathan shot a quick glance at her. Was she being serious? "You don't ask for much, do you?" He mocked.

She looked at him with her eyes wide open in surprise. "I thought so too you know!" How did he know that was asking for too little?

"Which is why I've also asked for a puppy!" She added.

"But Sefi doesn't like dogs."  Nathan surprised himself as soon as he blurted out the words.

"So? What does that have anything to do with me?"  Eve frowned, feeling her good mood evaporating.  Who cared if that country pumpkin liked dogs or not?  It wasn't like she was the one that going to get a dog, it had nothing to do with her!

She had already made her mind up, she was going to get a bichon frisé, they were simply the cutest dog in the world.  She'll then get one of those designer bags that had a cut-out window so that she could carry her puppy in her handbag.

Then she was ready to roam around town in her brand-new convertible with her puppy in toll.  She was already mulling over what colour of handbag she should get when she noticed Nathan remaining silent as if he was deep in thought.

"What's wrong?"  She asked.
