Make a wish

"You coming?" Nathan turned around for one last glance at Sefi, who looked like a child lost.

Sefi shifted her gaze onto him, somewhat surprised by his question. Was he asking her? Why? What made him think she would care to join them?

Then she saw Nathan doubling back and grabbing her by the wrist. She immediately tried to shrug off his hand but he refused to let go and continued to hold on tight.

She looked up and found herself staring straight into his dark eyes. He has very nice eyes. She thought to herself. The type you could get lost in.

"Let's go." He said, his voice was soft and gentle. He didn't know the significance of his actions, or the resulting consequences. He just knew that he didn't want to leave her all by herself.

Eve stood near the entrance, her eyes narrowed to a slit. She seemed to have underestimated that little tramp, who managed to have her brother wrapped around her little finger. Look at him beckoning to her every call. Was she the only one who could see that witch for what she was? A manipulative, conniving little...

"I'm not coming." Sefi shook her head. But Nathan wasn't taking "no" for an answer. His hold was strong and she found herself being dragged down to the reception hall alongside the two of them.

The reception hall was jam-packed with guests, everyone seemed to be gathered here eagerly waiting in anticipation for the twins to arrive.

All eyes turned towards them as soon as they stepped inside. Sefi felt that same awkwardness as before. Ignoring Nathan's frown, she pulled her hand away and drifted away, keeping a fair distance behind them.

She wasn't a shy person in her previous life but this strange inferiority complex seemed to have manifested itself in this body. A room filled with strangers equaled danger, therefore she naturally felt the strange need to hide!

The Tang twins seemed to be accustomed to being the centre of attention. They gracefully glided in as if they owned the place. Well, they did own the place but Sefi had the feeling if this wasn't their home they still would've exuded the same amount of confidence.

Mrs Tang floated over gracefully, then shooting Sefi a stern glance, she placed her delicate hands on Eve's shoulder protectively, "the photographer's ready." She said.

Sefi watched as the crowds parted out of the way creating a clear path for them to pass. They looked at the three members of the Tang family with admiration and envy.

Mr Tang walked over to join them and the professional photographer with his assistant snapped away at the camera as if they were taking part in a photo shoot.

The Tang family beamed into the camera, their postures relaxed, seemingly enjoying being the center of attention.

They were a very good looking family. Sefi had to admit. Mrs Tang had the glamour of a film starlet, whilst Mr Tang was the epitome of a successful businessman that graced the cover of Forbes magazine. Even the evil twins looked picture perfect with Eve sitting in front of the grand piano and Nathan looking incredibly dashing standing next to her.

That was once what her family was like. Sefi sniffed her nose. If she could've turned back the hands of time she would've never got in that car with Kai.

Suddenly all the lights went off and the guests gasped in surprise. Sefi looked back and forth, unable to see a thing. She felt herself going into a state of panic. What was going on? She wondered. The last time everything went dark was when she... Died.

Then a few dark shadows walked in, whilst wheeling a spectacular mountain of flickering candles. Before Sefi had recovered from her trance, the crowds erupted into a state of cheering and claps.

The tune of "Happy Birthday" started playing and the guests started joining in with the singing.

"Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Eve and Nathan, happy birthday to you!"

"Hip hip hooray!"

"Make a wish!"

"Blow out the candles!"

The guests shouted one by one, everyone seemed excited.

Eve got up from the piano and walked over to the ten-tiered cake with a huge smile. She clasped her hands together and was about to close her eyes to make her wish. Glancing out of the corner of her eye, she could make out Nathan's figure still by the piano. He seemed to be staring into a dark corner furthest away towards the back of the room looking deep in thought.

Don't think she doesn't know what he is looking at! She thought in annoyance. Or rather who he is looking at! That witch!

"Nathan." She warned, feeling all her good mood slipping.

He seemed to have realised his out of character behavior and strode over in a few large steps. Leaning forward, he was about to blow out the candles.

"Make a wish first!" Eve raised her hand to stop him.

Nathan looked up in the same direction in the far corner of the room once again. Then, closing his eyes for a few seconds, he made his wish before reopening his eyes and blew out the candles alongside Eve.

Following the loud cheers and the sound of clapping, the lights came back in the room. Sefi's hands were still shaking and her face white as a ghost.

"Are you OK Sefi?" Jin suddenly appeared by her side. He was looking at her with concern. She looked like she was going to pass out!

She shook her head, not trusting herself to speak. Her legs felt weak like jelly.

"Do you need to sit down for a bit?" He asked, reaching out to steady her. Noticing how cold and clammy her skin was, he frowned.

She needed to get out of here before she passed out! Sefi thought, and she could feel her back drenched with cold sweat. She stumbled forward, feeling her legs give way.

Oh no, she thought in horror, she was about to collapse right in the middle of the room and ruin the party. That'll really give Eve a reason to kill her.
