26 Kiwi the corgi

Nathan shook his head, still lost in his thoughts.

If she got a puppy it would be the most well behaved dog in the world. Eve decided. Not like that crazy dog of her stepmother's. Kiwi, who in their right mind would name their dog after a freaking fruit?!

Her brand new puppy would have the best name. She was thinking of calling it Princess or maybe Snow White? Either was good, it all depended on whichever one suited the puppy more, she was certain she could just tell when that moment comes. Once she looked into those puppy dog eyes she would know.

Then her thoughts drifted to Kiwi, he was a little Pembroke Welsh corgi, the same type of pedigree Queen Elizabeth II once surrounded herself with. He had short little legs and watching him struggling to climb onto the sofa always gave her stitches from laughing so hard.

Aside from being carried everywhere, he served no other purpose. They had zero expectations of him defending their home against burglars whatnot.

The only thing Eve like about Kiwi was that he hated Sefi. She found herself bursting into a fit of giggles.

"What's so funny?" Nathan asked.

Eve could barely control her laughter, "do you remember that day when Sefi first arrived at our house and Kiwi was chasing her around the garden?" She wiped away a tear before finishing off her sentence. "Then she fell into the swimming pool and Kiwi jumped in after her."

Honestly it was the funniest thing she had ever seen. When Kiwi leaped into the water, it was like watching one of those Olympic swimmers diving in, its little legs were flying in an arc through the air. Then he dropped like a cannonball, causing water to splash everywhere!

Sefi kept flapping her arms around and swallowing the pool water. Eve thought she was trying to drink the entire pool dry!

She turned around to look at Nathan and she could see he wasn't laughing. In fact, his face looked like there was a layer of frost on it. He did not look happy at all. She thought, and immediately tried to hold back her smile.

Of course he hadn't forgotten about that day. He was the one that had to drag the two of them out the pool. With a dog in one arm and Sefi in the other.

The girl looked like a drowned rat as she sat on the floor coughing and spluttering. Water dripped down from her clothes and hair. She looked like she had been scared half to death.

Kiwi on the other hand, stood next to her and shook his body vigorously causing more water to land on Sefi, it was like watching her being blasted by the sprinkler. Then as if satisfied that his fur had dried, Kiwi trotted off to his crib with his head held up high.

From that day onwards, every time Sefi sees Kiwi she runs in the opposite direction as if she'd just seen the Grim reaper.

Kiwi seemed to relish on the effect he had on the girl and his pranks have escalated to another level. If Nathan hadn't seen it with his own eyes he never would have believed that Kiwi could hide behind a door, then jump out and scare Sefi once she walked past!

Were dogs even that clever to have the mental capacity to plot such an event? He found the thought rather unimaginable.

"What's the matter? Are you upset for that country pumpkin?" Eve asked half jokingly. Of course she didn't think her brother really cared about Sefi, but he is a man after all and men had their weaknesses. That witch could pretend to be all helpless then all the men jump out as if they're knights in shining armor!

It was shameless. Only her and Kiwi could see through her fakeness. Her poor girl fasade. It was up to her and crazy Kiwi-pie to save Nathan from that witch.

Maybe her Snow White will join them too in the fight for man-kind.

"Doesn't Jin have a dog?" Nathan asked out of the blue.

Eve nodded, "yes he does, a golden retriever called Tank. Oh he is such a well behaved dog, he is so gentle, he is like the total opposite of Kiwi. Kiwi is just in another league of his own."

"Has he brought the dog to our house before?" He asked lightly, appearing to be lacking in interest.

"You mean Tank? Of course, Jin has brought him a few times," she said before adding, "Sefi is even scared of Tank too, she is scared of all dogs. She practically fainted when she saw him."

She giggled evilly, then turning to face him she asked, "why do you ask?" She wasn't completely oblivious to things. It was strange for him to have a sudden interest in Jin's dog.

"No reason." Nathan answered. His facial expression remained unreadable.

His mind then went over all the strange things he had noticed about Sefi ever since she woke up after she fell down the stairs. It just didn't add up. She still looked like the same girl and yet she felt different somehow.

The girl he had been living with for the past three months was shy and timid, she looked down on the ground and avoided eye contact at all times. He could often catch her leering at him and she would immediately look away when he returned her gaze as if nothing had happened.

It turned his stomach the way she looked at him as if he was a piece of meat.

She never spoke, in fact she was quiet to the point you might mistaken her for a fixture on the wall.

She insisted on doing all of his ironing by herself and she ate spring onions. She was most certainly petrified of dogs.

Nathan pursed his lips in a firm line as he recalled seeing Sefi sitting outside the convenience store with her arm around a golden retriever. He would bet his brand new car on it that it was Tank.

She didn't look scared that time. He thought harshly.
