18 First day at work

7:00am

Aviana wakes up to the alarm snoozing. Without even opening her eyes, she heads to the bathroom and bangs the door closed. A moment later, she walks out of the bathroom dressed only in a bathrobe while combing her hair and at the same time brushing her teeth. Today, she wore a cream-colored blouse over a similar pencil skirt which is brown and matches with her cream high-heeled shoes. She ties her hair into a sleek pony tail, although her hair isn't considerably less glossy than before because she hadn't had the time to do it up. Walking to the entrance of the dining room, a pleasant smell of freshly baked pancakes hits her nose. On the table, there were fried eggs, pancakes, hot cereal and some warm milk. Her mother had really weighed in on the choice of food here. These were the healthiest meals for breakfast,as the protein in eggs helped maintain and repair body tissues, also necessary for brain and nervous system to function effectively while milk, still a protein helped to prevent osteoporosis and bone fractures and even helped maintain a healthy weight. Aviana needed more of that as she were starting to gain weight because of staying at home doing nothing but eat and sleep.

Serving herself the food, she kept glancing at her phone from time to time. She couldn't be late for her first day at work. When she had a talk with Ethan, before they were interrupted, they had already discussed everything. Aviana felt it uncomfortable staying in such a huge villa from a stranger, so she requested to work in the company so that she could pay up. Even though Ethan wasn't into the idea of her working in the company to repay him, he still agreed. Because he could see her more often. She was told to report to work first and then after, she would be assigned her task.

At precisely 8:00 am, a car rolled onto her street before stopping exactly in front of her. It was a Mercedes-Benz S-class, with battery-powered driving capabilities, as she didn't hear it approach her. It was one of the most luxurious car she had never seen. As she took it in its sloping curves, immaculate design, and broad length by turning her head, she thought that it was probably someone asking for directions. Just as she was about to ask the man what he needed, he said something that made her take along, sharp breath. "Miss Cole? I am Rao, your new chauffeur! Please get in."

Before she knew it, the man exited the car and stood holding the back door open, looking at her with an amiable smile on his face. He was olive-skinned, with a handlebar mustache and a sight belly. Middle-aged, he was clad in black uniform with a cap that he was currently holding at his chest politely as he bend slightly to show his respect.

Aviana had indeed heard Ethan mention to her that she would be assigned a chauffeur because her place was so far from the company, but she had just assumed that it would be some normal car with a driver dropping and picking her up on a normal-daily basis. Never in her wildest dreams had she imagined that it would be the most luxurious car she had never seen. And to top it all, the middle-aged man seemed like a bodyguard, the most trusted one at that.

"Are-are you sure you brought the right car? Or rather if I'm the right person you're looking for? Maybe you have lost your way? I could help you find the exact person you are looking for," she uttered, unable to take her eyes off the plush interiors which were visible through the open door. Rao almost laughed out loud. The woman couldn't believe that she was exactly the person he was looking for.

"Oh Madam, I must apologize." Hearing this, Aviana first relaxed thinking that her hypothesis was right after all. And yet, what he said next first startled her before she broke into a loud laughter. "The Bentley is reserved for the Ceo, but I will be sure to ask him next time whether we could take it for a spin."

The joke cracked the tense atmosphere that Aviana had been subjected to since he arrived, finally allowing her to relax and adjust to everything that was happening. Entering the car and sinking into the seats which made her feel like she was sitting on a sofa, Aviana looked out the window at the multiplex which she had just come out of.

Taking a deep breath, she looked forward to what lay in store for her in this new phase of life. She would be working in the biggest company of all, she was anxious . Anxious because she were yet to be assigned her task. To ease her nervousness, she cracked a joke, "While you are at it, ask about the private jet too. And if anyone questions you, just tell them that you were ordered by Aviana Cole, wife to Ethan Urkel, CEO of G&K company."

Chuckling and clapping twice, Rao got into the car and switched on the engine before saying, "D'egaine. I must say, you are the best sense of humor yet in all the employees I've driven."

Feeling the car come alive beneath them and move in the same silent manner with which it had crept up on her before, Aviana rolled up the windows, before relaxing in the comfortable seats.

"Miss, we are here. I'll be back to pick you up in the evening, at exactly 4:00pm. Have a good day." Aviana hurriedly collected her bag and got off. "OK. I'll see you then." she replied as she smiled. Tipping his cap at her, Rao smiled wide at her before getting on the car and driving away. Turning around, Aviana looked up at the company where she would be working henceforth. It was as if she had stepped into a different world that till now she still couldn't believe. Taking a deep breath, she strode inside and walked to the receptionist.

"Excuse me, ma'am. I have an appointment with the boss. Can you please tell him I've come?" she requested. Jenny glanced at her and made a mockery of her,

"So, you finally did it! You finally slept your way into the company!" Aviana, who was all along trying to be polite to her, could no longer hold her anger. She was irritated. 'Slept her way into the company? How dare she say that to me!'

"Ma'am , I've been trying so hard to be polite with you, don't pout things you've no proof for!" said Aviana, obviously irritated by her words. Aviana was a kind person. She never liked arguing with others. If you dared argue with her, she would just walk away. That was her character. But Jenny had so much angered her that she couldn't help but speak in that tone. Before Jenny could respond to her words, Devin walked to them. As Aviana was dropped by Rao, Ethan had seen her through the window of his office. He had sent Devin to direct her into his office.

"Miss Cole, Mr Urkel is waiting for you in his office," said Devin as he directed her to the office.
