5 Cheapstake

After Irene was done getting dressed up with the help of the stylist that was hired for her, she thanked her and immediately headed out of her office to Kevin's office. She checked the silver wristwatch on her wrist, she was 5 minutes early. She still felt a bit unsettled about the fact that she was wear an outfit and jewelleries that cost more than she has ever earned in her life. Breathing our slowly she knocked on the door.

"Come in" Kevin said.

Irene opened the door, went in and quietly closed the door behind. In front of her was Kevin he was wear a black suit that matches her black knee length black dress with a slight slit on the side.

"You look decent" Kevin said as he looked her for a split second and picks up his phone.

"Shall we?" He said rhetorically.

Irene nodded and followed behind him out of the office to the elevator.

Getting out of the black Mercedes Benz, Irene felt the cold air envelope her bare shoulder and legs as she took Kevin's hand and walked towards the huge building in front of her.

Walking in the building the warmth in the room caressed her cold shoulder and legs as she let out a soft breath of relief. She realised she was still holding Kevin's hand..... tight as she felt a bit nervous. She immediately let go and said a prayer in her mind as apologised to him in a low tone. In return he just ignored her and acknowledged someone's greeting with a nod.

Throughout the evening that only last an hour and half, Irene silently took everything in as she followed Kevin around and made important notes in her mind even though the heels she was wearing was hurting her feet. When it time to go she let out an inaudible sigh as she followed Kevin to the car back to the company.

In the car she wondered why he even brought her with him.

"That was so unnecessary" Irene thought to herself.

"You're probably wondering why I brought you to the party" Kevin said.

"Oh my God, is he reading my mind" she thought.

"I brought you there so you know what to expect in the future, that's just a little party, we will be going to bigger parties and places" he added.

"You might feel overwhelmed and pressured when that time comes which might have an effect on your work which might have an effect on the company which will be another source of headache for me" he continued

I wouldn't like that" he added.

"Yes sir, I will do my best" Irene replied

"Hey, you took your time!" David said as he swirled the wine in his glass.

"I went to the movie premiere after party" Kevin replied.

"Since when do you go to small parties like that" David said as he flicked through the menu.

"I don't, I just decided to go with the new Pa so she can have an idea about what the future holds" Kevin replied as he places his glass of wine on the table.

"You're as meticulous as always" David said.

"We should get the braised beef, noodles and some more wine, get a wine that's quite expensive it says here that if you spend over 300$ you get complimentary dumplings" David said pointing to the words on the menu.

"What you mean I should get an expensive wine, you invited me, shouldn't you be paying" Kevin said, looking straight into David's eyes.

"Oh my God don't look at me in such a creepy manner, you cheapstake, you haven't seen me in so long and you've gotten way richer than before, shouldn't you be paying?" David replied, looking like he had been wronged.

"Last I heard you recently got promoted, I'm sure your salary increased too. Aunty also complained that you still ask for pocket money from her. Aren't you too ashamed to ask me to pay for the food at your big age?" Kevin said as he sent their order to the kitchen.

"What do you mean at my big age, we're the same age I'm just a few months older than you. And I only asked for money from my mom a few times. Why do you make it sound like I do it all the time" David said.

Suddenly the both burst out laughing

"I can't believe we were actually arguing like that over who's going to pay when we can just split the bill" Kevin said with a smile.

"Wow you really are shameless" David said laughing.

Jamie was reading when he heard someone knocking on the door. He immediately guessed that it was his sister, he immediately opened the door

"Cool, you're back. I made some rice and beef soup" Jamie said as he closed the door.

"You're the best brother anyone can ever have, I love you so much" Irene said as she took off her shoes and blew him kisses.

Rolling his eyes, Jamie slumped into his bed at the corner of the room as he picks up the flashlight and the book on the, he continues to read.

The multiple candles dimly lit up the room just enough to alleviate totally darkness. Irene could already guess what happened. The light was out, she hadn't paid the light bill for the past two months, it was bound to happen, thankfully she got the job.

"By the end of the month I'll be able the pay the light bill and all other things we owe" Irene assured her brother.
