'So, this is death...', Atlas thought as he drifted in the endless darkness. It was permeated with the sensation that resembled the ease one felt during deep sleep. Wallowing in the darkness, he pondered. There was no pain as if he hadn't recently keeled over in pain. There seemed to be nothing around and there was no indication that anything else existed. The only sound that could be heard were the ruminations within his head. There was nothing yet his sense of self remained. Like something that didn't belong or something that refused to cease existing.

The darkness around him suddenly began to dissipate. A silver light struck the darkness causing a shockwave to reverberate. Visible light began to invade the void and caused the abyss to shatter the same way glass did.

Words then began to fill his vision. A particular one caught his attention.

Death: Fetus Poisoning

'That was the only thing he did not lie about', he thought amusedly.

He then narrowed his eyes to focus on his current predicament and bellowed into the void, "Where am I and what is this?"

Normally, he would assess the situation, but he believed it was unnecessary. After all, he was dead and only human. A being that could bring him back to life was not something he could defy even if he wanted to. He couldn't help but smile at the thought.

You are the Host, and this is the System Space

Normally being a Host would indicate that he was to be a vessel either to nurture something or to represent and act on the behalf of something greater. However, he had heard of Systems in his previous life.

"So, what do you require of me?"

Nothing

Nothing? He then rephrased the question. Asking the reason would be redundant as the lack of requirement either meant the refusal to reveal the actual requirement or he was fortunate for once in his life.

"What can I do with the System?"

Anything

"And what does that mean?", Atlas pressed despite the possibility of offending the greater being. Anything was an answer that was too vague for him especially since that meant it could also be useless.

The System is but a catalyst for growth. It is up to you whether you become an insect that does not deserve its blessings or a deity that fate itself fears

"Why are you helping me?"

...I sense potential

Atlas remained silent. Not because he was overwhelmed. In fact, the madness in his eyes was evident.

"I accept"

Transferring Host to [Farming Village]

Instead of asking for more time as that usually resulted in a refusal. He asked, "Can I choose a different destination?"

Fret not. This is just one of many worlds. Death will not be an obstacle

Transfer in Progress

For him, death was something he had anticipated. However, he could never have predicted that he would be reborn into a system that had the ability to expunge the innate will and desire to survive. After all, he now had endless reincarnation opportunities that also allowed him to retain his memories. What was the point of enduring a miserable existence when you can re roll for a better fate? Then again with so much power and potential, one must be beyond pathetic to live a miserable existence.

How he came to this conclusion? If his memories were supposed to be wiped, then they would already be gone. For an entity that could defy death, a mortal's psyche was but a triviality. As for the opportunities, he inferred it from the fact that this was just one of many worlds and the way he was assimilated with the new reality.

He had been expecting whatever twisted afterlife fate had prepared for him, but this was far better. Virtually every religion touted the glory and desirability of the afterlife. Claiming that it was far better than the world of the living with its divine scenery, spiritual fulfillment, and true inner peace. He however recognized that it was merely the prattle of ignorant mortals. The peace reported was just a euphemism for death and the glorification of the afterlife was clearly to comfort those near death and coerce people into being "moral" through fear. He was neither that naive nor that concerned with the sacred though. He had been offered the opportunity to defy the very nature of existence itself and naturally he wouldn't reject. Who cared if it could be seen as blasphemous?

He was slightly troubled by the destination though as it was a primitive world instead of a futuristic one or the preferred magical one. The majority of jobs before the technological era were manual labor and that took a toll on a weak physique. Not only would the strength be handy for employment, but it would be extremely beneficial for self-defense. No matter how unskilled the fighter, if he can deal a heavy blow then there's an immediate advantage which could be exploited. Whatever Strength (E+) meant, it was not his actual strength or at least he didn't feel as strong as he used to. He then realized that this feeling of weakness was likely caused by the poison which killed him and that his constitution had degraded.

He could train and improve his strength gradually, but he then realized that it was the perfect opportunity to test out the System's capabilities.

[Strength (E+) Upgraded to Strength (D) {-100}]

[Strength (D) Upgraded to Strength (D+) {-250}]

[Strength (D+) Upgraded to Strength (C) {-400}]

The change was instantaneous and incredibly difficult to not sense despite having zero impact on his physical appearance. Each increase in rank gave considerable power with each rank enabling a new realm of possibilities. Before the upgrade, he had the same strength as an athletic adult but after the upgrade, he returned to being able to crush steel. Despite the drastic surge in power, he felt no discomfort and at Strength (C), he felt his strength return to its prime. However, the feeling of vulnerability could have been engineered by the System, so he continued.

[Strength (C) Upgraded to Strength (C+) {-1000}]

He finally confirmed it. It was real. With the System, anything was possible.
