Chapter 1Collapse

Why am I here right now? Well, I failed. It's that simple. I couldn't fight an entire race of crack-addicted, cybernetically enhanced aliens.

Now I'm going to be executed.

If I have to die as an example, let my example be to you.

Let my example be one of fighting until I couldn't fight anymore.

I won't live to see tomorrow, but you will.

When you hear my story, I want you to spread it through the star sector, broadcast it through the vacuum, send it into the vast nothingness, so that every civilization that recieves it has a fighting chance.

If at least one person knew my story, there's a chance for us to fight our oppressors, so I need to share this with you.

Buckle up, buddy. It's not pleasant.

I was on Earth right before the Collapse, I was on a vacation with my wonderful wife. We were on a trip in the Bahamas.

She had fallen asleep leaning against me while we watched the waves, while I was dozing off myself.

That was why I didn't notice the sky was falling until it was too late.

They came in drop ships, or the little pods that ships eject to rapidly deploy troops for a ground assault. Not one nation's military had an opprotunity to use their special operatives. The armies were defeated too fast, they were able to jam our signals, they took down our satellites, and left none standing. The entire assault was evidently painstakingly planned and executed flawlessly.

After they had gained control of the planet, they tried to breed us like cattle. They wanted to breed us like sapient cattle for a goddamn FOOD SOURCE!

My wife was in the first wave of 'supply' ships outbound for their armies' bases, shipped alive to ensure freshness.

I was left for dead on that beach in the Bahamas. The once-scenic view dyed with blood and corpses, stained like glass, and immortalized in my mind.

I'll never forget the slaughter that ensued, the feast those fucking aliens had.

I won't forget, and I'll never forgive.

I hope you'll remember this when I no longer can.

I was shot in the shoulder and dropped, left for dead as the aliens rushed at the nearest people to them.

When one lunged at my wife, Maria, I pushed myself so far beyond my body's limits I shattered the bone in my left arm in three places.

I was able to kill the ugly, blue, implike alien, but I wasn't able to prevent Maria from being taken alive.

I laid on that ground for four hours, unconscious from resultant shock.

I only woke when the tide began trying to pull me out to sea.

I barely managed to pull myself from the grip of the water in time, only to collapse onto my annhilated arm, sending myself into shock once more.

I was lucky to wake up the second time.

When I awoke that second time, the moon was at its zenith and I was surrounded by curious crabs.

I was fast enough to grab a crab with my right hand and avoid its claws, scaring away the rest of the crabs.

That night I splinted my arm as best I could and did my best to find something I could use to start a fire to cook my crab.

I couldn't find any firewood, much less a lighter, so I used two metal pipes and some cloth to splint my arm and ate the crab raw.

Since they had deployed ground troops, I figured they intended to occupy the planet. So I comandeered a boat and proceeded to island hop my way to southeast Florida, where I hoped to find more information.

At the time, I had some hope in the militaries, so I figured I could head to a military base and explain what had happened.

It took me three days on foot to reach the national guard military base.

I had hoped that I could reach them in time and prepare a small population of people, but all I found was dead aliens and remnant corpses of the defending humans.

This hardened my resolve to fight these aliens, and find my wife.

My whole journey began because of the loss of my wife, but it slowly evolved into something far greater than my selfishness.

We're not the only two space races. There are others, bred like cattle, eaten like we humans eat meat, and walked on like the very dust we were all born from.

As I encountered several of these races, I slowly began to grasp the utter ruthlessness of the empire of these blue aliens.

They call themselves the Awoken.

Funny, huh?

Funny how a race made into a human video game called Destiny turned into carniverous space imps that destroy races.

The Awoken viewed themselves like Hitler viewed the 'master race'. They were 'pure' and 'far superior'.

That's not entirely true, though.

They engineer their own cybernetic enhancements as they grow older, strengthening themselves, but not to the point where we humans can't fight them.

The story I'm about to tell involves me doing just that. Killing those goddamned Awoken and trying to save not just humanity, but other races as well.

It's just too damn bad I failed in the end.

Humans had developed steam gear technology, and the islands were connected through boats. They survived by studying strange phenomena that happened all around the world. However, as the captain of a scary-looking ghost ship, Duncan was facing a huge challenge. "How the heck do I steer this ship?" Highly recommended by experienced editor: MC is transmigrated to a world mostly covered in water and far from civilization. He becomes the captain of the ghost ship, the 'Homeloss'. He steers through the fog and adventures through the broken world and the unknown deep sea. As he discovers the ruins of abandoned civilization, he would also stumble into the war between the strange phenomena and the devil gods. The story takes place in a combination of ocean and Chutly mythology world, a new and interesting background. It’s an attractive story to read due to the author’s sense of humor and mastery over the ambiance of the story. --------------- Another-style introduction: "On that day, a thick fog engulfed everything. On that day, he became the captain of a ghost ship. On that day, he crossed the dense fog and faced a completely overturned and shattered world – the former order was completely gone, and peculiar phenomena dominated the endless seas beyond civilized society. The island city-states and the fleets challenging the sea have become the only lights of civilization left, while the shadows of old days still lurk in the deep sea, waiting to devour this dying world again. But for the new captain, there's only one pressing question – Does anyone know how to sail this damn ship?!"
