Manaless Mage

Harry Morton was born in an age where magic and mana ruled everything. Ways to unlock affinities

-A few hours later

The academy had already closed, for Harry today was just like any other day; filled with boring lectures.

Harry stood at the academy's entrance. He paid no attention to the many student groups that were milling about; some were looking at different images on their respective devices, while others were just chatting and laughing.

After walking for a few minutes, Harry paused.

'Activate Accelerate…' He said inwardly. A slight smile appeared on his face as he felt the expected warm and refreshing sensation flowing through his body. No matter how many times he used accelerate, he could never get tired of it. Without wasting too much time, he sprinted home.

-A few minutes later

Harry kept panting heavily as he laid on the cold floor of his room. His upper body was bare and sweat glistened on his face.

A strange glint flashed through his eyes as he looked the the notifications that appeared in his line of sight.

[Daily Quest Completed]

[Rewards granted: +500 EXP +10 stat points]

'Finally.' Harry thought while exhaling.

He had finally completed his daily quests.

Since he had already completed two quests in the academy, all he had to do after getting home was to continue lifting the sofa till the notification about the quest completion appeared.

A low grunt left his lips as he sat up. "Host stats." He muttered.

[Host Stats]

[Name: Harry Morton]

{Stat Points: 25}

Harry nodded his head in satisfaction when he noticed his stats. His stats had really improved in the last few weeks. His gaze lingered on the stat points for a few seconds before he finally decided to allocate it.

"System add three stat point to strength." Harry muttered.

[+3 stat points added to strength]

Harry nodded his head slightly. "Add three stat point to agility."

[+3 stat points to agility]

Harry's eyes furrowed slightly as he pondered on how to allocate the remaining nineteen stat points. 'System add three stat points to stamina.' He said inwardly.

[+3 stat points added to stamina]

'Add five points to perception.' Harry told the system using his thoughts. As for why he made this decision; it was because he noticed that compared to his other stats, his perception seemed to be lagging behind.

[+5 stat points added to perception]

'Add two points to endurance.'

[+2 stat points added to endurance]

'Add three points to intelligence.' Harry said inwardly.

[+3 stat points added to intelligence]

Harry nodded his head in satisfaction as he looked at his new stats.

––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

[Strength: 26]

[Agility: 25]

[Stamina: 27]

[Perception: 24]

[Endurance: 26]

[Intelligence: 26]

[Charm: NULL]

{Stat Points: 6}

––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

He purposely didn't use all his stat points and let a few remain.

His gaze then drifted to the small closet positioned at the edge of the room. A strange expression flashed through his eyes as he kept staring at it. He slowly stood up and then walked towards it.

A sigh left his lips as he placed his hand on the closet and then opened it.

A small dull white stone could be seen lying inside the closet. It was simply the beast core still coated by mana conceal.

Harry hand moved towards it before stopping halfway. He withdrew his hand and then closed the closet.

A sigh escaped from his lips as he pondered on what to do with the beast core. During the past week, the beast core had been nothing but a temptation to him.

Though he knew selling it would benefit him in the long run, he still couldn't help but salivate over the huge amounts of EXP and stat points he could get. He was still somewhat confused about what to do with the beast core, whether to absorb it or just sell it—if a miracle happened and he found a way to do so.

A sigh left his lips once more as he slid down the wall. His current plan was to wait for a few days, if he still couldn't find a way to sell the beast core and get a house, he would simply absorb it. He would simply find another way to get money, perhaps by getting a job—it was still proving difficult for him to find one.

'System… how can I unlock more affinities?' Harry said inwardly. Although he knew one way to unlock affinities was by absorbing beast cores and possibly mana cores, he was still curious about the other ways to unlock the remaining nine affinities.

[Host can unlock more affinities by absorbing them from beast cores or mana cores]

[Host can get more affinities by comprehending the elements]

[Host can get more affinities by rising in levels. New affinities would be unlocked randomly across levels]

Harry nodded his head slightly, he understood the first and third method. However, what confused him was the second method—the one that required him to comprehend the elements. How was he supposed to comprehend an element?

'How do I comprehend and element?' He asked the system.

[…]

Unfortunately, neither the system nor the other voice replied.

According to the system, he could also unlock the affinities across levels, which basically meant more affinities would be available to him at certain levels.

However, at what level would he unlock another affinity? Although he wasn't sure if the system would reply this time, he still asked anyway. 'At what level would I unlock another affinity?' Harry asked the system through his thoughts.

[…]

There was no reply once again.

Although he expected it, it didn't feel less annoying. If anything, it only made him more infuriated. 'Why must you always leave me hanging?' Harry thought.

He didn't bother himself with the system anymore. He knew as long as the system decided not to reply, nothing would change its mind.

A sigh left his lips as he rested his head on the wall. He was the only one at home, he had completed all his quests, now there was nothing left for him to do.
