1 Prologue
Screams. That was what woke a fifteen year old Rose up from her sleep before her mother bust into her room looking frantic.
"What's going on mama?" Rose says her eyes as wide as saucers when she took in her mothers appearance. Dishevelled blonde hair with her yellow gown dirty with black ash and sand. Almost as if she fell down into into a pile of ash.
"Quick Rose, we have to leave"
"But to where mama, wont I pack a few of my..." Rose started to say as she got out of bed but was interrupted by her mother.
"There is no time" Her mama yelled and she grabbed hold of her hand and led her outside of her room.
Rose's mother had been at her shed packing up her baskets of apples at the local market like any other day, when they heard screams and the next thing they knew, they were being invaded by men on chariots swinging their swords at any villager they came across.
She had left her apples and ran to her house only for her to see houses burning on her way. She had to pass through all the smoke so as to get to her daughter and she had fell down a few times on her way to the house but she didn't care. She just wanted her and her daughter out of the village before they killed them all.
Her husband was a knight but was on duty at the palace so he was safe but couldn't protect them at that moment.
"Come on, hurry" She kept on saying as she dragged her daughter out of the house. Immediately, they were greeted with smoke emitting from burning houses around them. Their house was one of the few which hadn't been set on fire.
People ran helter skelter as men on horses swung their swords killing anyone it met.
Coughing, Rose decided to ask her mother
where they were going.
"To the next village, hopefully we'll be safe there." Her mama said as they ran trying to dodge any of the invaders and making sure not to be noticed.
They neared the border of the village much to Rose and her mama's relief as other villagers were headed ther but one of the invaders on his horss noticed them and with a smirk kicked his horse to run after them.
His horse got close to them and ran in their middle splitting them from each other. Rose's mother fell face flat while Rose stumble and fell and rolled farther away from her mom, bruising herself.
"What do we have here." The man said ignoring Rose and going to her mother.
"Get up little one, let's go." A woman who was a villager also running to the border says as she lifts up Rose from the ground. But Rose looked around for her mother and found the man going close to her on his feet, no longer on the horse.
"Mama!" Rose screams as she tries to get close to her mother but the lady who helped her up was having none of it and was dragging her to the border.
"No girl, you'll get yourself killed."
"Mama! Mama!" She kept on scream and struggling to go to her. Then she saw her mama slap the man as he tried to touch her but this only angered him and he took out his sword and impaled her with it.
"Mama! No" Rose screamed as her mum fell to the ground with surprise etched on her face and the man took out his sword laughing maniacally.
"Dammit, Trevor carry her" The lady beside her shouted at a boy of about nineteen years beside her as Rose struggled to go to her mum. The boy then lifts her on his shoulder and then tries to keep up with the lady as they run off to the border, while Rose kept screaming for her mama till she passed out and the world turned black.
