20 Start of the year

The next day was a Sunday, Matthew started his day with his modified workout routine, followed by a few rounds of martial arts practice and a shower before breakfast. At the great hall, he got his Schedule from Professor Flitwick and joined his roommates at breakfast. Had a similar amount of lessons as last year, only flying lessons fell away since they were only mandatory for the first years.

He spent the rest of the day reading in the Libray, with the help of his quick reading glasses he started to research the topics of runes, arithmancy, and spell creation. Before he explores the forbidden forest, he needs to make sure of his own survival.

After Dinner the Ravenclaw welcoming through Professor Flitwick took place. No topic of interest was mentioned, for Matthew. Mainly the first years were welcomed. And with that, his first day ended.

~ Scene Break ~

The rest of the month was spent, in that fashion. Lessons then Library and afterward Spell practice in the Room of Requirements, where he practiced Spells in preparation to explore the forbidden Forest.

His Lessons this year started with the review of their spells from last year. Afterward, they continued with more complex Subjects. In Transfiguration they started to learn animate to inanimate transfiguration, starting with turning a beetle into a button. In Potions, they continued with the harder Potions in their book from last year. Similar to Charms they started to study harder and more complex charms beginning with the freezing charm 'Imobulus'. DADA was a refreshing change of pace. While last year they studied simple spells and their creative defensive use and also a few magical creatures. This year based on their new Professors' experience they started to study location and recognition of ward boundaries and magical traps. As expected of a curse breaker Professor Vermount was an expert in this topic. Later in the year, they would continue with curses and cursed objects, how to recognize and to contain them also a few counter curses. As for History of Magic well his books were more useful than Goblin Rebellions. Currently, he was reading 'Ancient Dark Wizards' by an Unknown Author.

Inside the Room of Requirement, he learned the Disillusionment Charm so he would be able to move through the forest cloaked and to raise his escape chances, it's also useful to explore the castle at night. The Charm wasn't true invisibility but it rather worked like a Chameleon, he blended in with his environment. He also practiced muting his movement and maintaining it with the silencing charm. In terms of offensive Spells, he practiced Snape's dark-cutting charm, 'Sectumsempra'. It should be strong enough to harm most animals and creatures inside the forest. Additionally, he also learned the Explosion Charm for Area Damage if the need should arise, especially 'Bombarda Maxima'. With his repertoire from last year, he had a decent collection of combat spells, but he wasn't still sure if he could survive the forest unharmed.

There were Acromantulas inside the forest who could sneak behind him through the treetops. Also, Trolls who were spell resistant would be troublesome to handle, one he could take out with the tactics of the golden trio or a dark cutting charm. But a group of them would be troublesome to handle so he would have to escape. Who knows what else he would find inside, there were even rumors of werewolves which would be hard to handle since they are fast and spell resistant.

Useful Spells were also hard to find, there were thousands of ways to hex or curse your opponents in strange ways, like vomiting snails or giving an annoying cold. But a spell to make sure you wouldn't be ambushed from behind, he couldn't find. Also, there are only Wand Magic books inside the Library of Hogwarts, with no mentions of different kinds of magic. But inside the second-hand bookshop 'The Lost Library' he found some books introducing different kinds of spellcasters, yes it was even suggested that there were different power sources in existence. Unfortunately, that book explained only the source wizards used, Wizard, absorb the magical energies in the environment and store them inside their body, the more powerful the Wizard the more energy he can store the more magic he casts. Which only confirms the analysis of the AI Chip from last year. But Matthew would like to learn more about the other sources. After all the more magic he can use the more powerful he would become.

Unfortunately, the European and U.S. magical communities are pretty ignorant of the other ways to use magic, especially the British community. They focused only on the wand, which limited their abilities overall. He wouldn't make the same mistake, in the future, he should visit other magical countries. Maybe a nice family Holiday over Summer would be appropriate.

Another change this year, he helps the first-year students with their studies. In the second week while chatting Cho told him about her troubles with her classes. Especially potions since Snape is pretty intimidating, which makes it hard to succeed in his classes. So he offered to help her study every Friday evening, cause why not he could make new friends that way and also would get some rest from his practice and study sessions. With the help of his AI, he had no problem with any theoretical topics especially first-year ones. After a while, other first years asked if they could join and a new study group formed. And Matthew found a new way to network and establish a good relationship with the younger students.

He also got a meeting with Professor Flitwick at the end of September, about Mr.Slughorns Yule's feast. He asked Dumbledore for permission to join the feast. The Headmaster agreed to let him go in December for the tew hours, he will also visit Diagon Alley a few days earlier with Professor Flitwick to buy a new dress robe for the event.

September was a busy time for Matthew, especially with the things he wanted to accomplish this year. He used the month to read all the books in the Library about Arithmancy, Runes, and Spell Creation. Thanks to his new glasses he was able to accomplish this. He even got permission from Professor Flitwick to visit the restricted section for books about this topic. At first, the Professor was skeptical, but after Matthew persisted and proofed his knowledge about these topics, he was given the permit for these specific sections.

After reading all the books, Matthew had to discover that there were no books about the Norse rune system in the Library. There were Mythological records about the Norse gods like Loki, Thor, Odin, and Heimdall. But no knowledge about their runes. Only mentions that they existed. He even used the Room of Requirement to find books about them but without success. He had to accept that they were unfortunately lost in time without even a hint of how they worked. Which was strange.

In his first October week, on Wednesday to be precise, the AI Chip finally completed a task that took over a week to complete. After his lessons for the day he rushed into the Room of Requirements to check out the results.
