133 Lost Diary and a pebble

Harry was gone for a good while, Ron and Hermione became slightly worried while they waited for their friend. Something must have happened and Matthew had a good idea of what it was. After a while, a shocked Harry returned to the Library.

"So do you have your form? Did something happen?" asked Matthew once the younger boy arrived.

"Yes, but that doesn't matter right now. Someone searched through all my stuff. They even tried to break my Trunk open but the security enchantments held. But they still found what they were looking for since it was in my school bag. It took me a while to realize. They stole the Diary!" said Harry with an undertone to Ron and Hermione.

"What?"

Hermione looked aghast at the news.

"But — only a Gryffindor could have stolen — nobody else knows your password —"

"Exactly!" said Harry.

Matthew decided it was time to interrupt the Trio and get to the gist of the Situation.

"Please slow down you three. Could you explain to me what happened? What Diary? When did you start to write a Diary Harry?" asked Matthew pretending to be confused and unable to follow their Conversation.

"Ehh, you see we really wanted to tell you. But you always try to get us away from investigating." Began Harry to explain slightly awkwardly.

"Investigating? You three are impossible. This has again something to do with the Chamber of Secrets? I try to keep you safe. Since a real killer is walking through these halls, probably with an XXXXX Class Creature under his control. And you are only three second-year Students with their most powerful defense spell being the disarming Charm. Do you really think you could do better than the Teachers? Who have decades of experience on you and are some of the most powerful Wizards in Britain if not the World. I only let you go with your Polyjuice Plan since it was educational and Malfoy wasn't the heir so you would stay safe. But you seem just to have the talent to get in trouble." Ranted Matthew.

"Sorry Matthew. We really should have told you earlier." Admitted Hermione while staring sadly at the ground.

"*sigh* You probably should have. Sorry for getting angry at you three. I just try to keep you safe. So what is this about a Diary?" asked Matthew now focusing on the three young Students.

After a lengthy explanation of how Harry and Ron found the Diary of Tom Riddle in Myrtle's Bathroom, and how it showed Harry a Memory from fifty years ago, Matthew just could sigh again.

"So you found a Diary of a Student that was present during the time the Chamber of Secrets was opened the first time. A student that caught the Original Culprit. And none of you got the idea that something fishy was going on?" asked Matthew as he stared at the three with a deadpan look.

Hermione had at least the decency to blush, "Eh if you are saying it that way…"

"What a coincidence for such an artifact to appear when the Chamber got opened again. Especially an artifact with a consciousness. Don't you think so?" added Matthew.

"What do you mean?" asked Ron confused.

"What do I mean? You probably held the artifact responsible for the opening of the Chamber in your hands. I am not sure what kind of artifact. But it must be a very complex type of magic. The only Artifacts I know of that are able to show Memories in such a way are Pensive s. And they are very advanced ones and very rare. But this book had Intelligence. Alone from that fact, you should be alarmed. This Object may have control over another Student and be responsible for the opening of the Chamber."

"Never trust anything that can think for itself if you can't see where it keeps its brain. That's at least what my father always says." Muttered Ron embarrassed.

"Yes, and you should listen to your Father. That are very wise words." Replied Matthew.

"But how do you know that the Diary is responsible for the opening of the Chamber?" asked Harry.

"I don't know it for one hundred percent. The abilities of the artifact aside. There were no attacks while you had the Diary! That's the first clue." Said Matthew, "Secondly someone tried to get rid of the Diary. Based on the description of how you found it. Most likely a Gryffindor Student. That Gryffindor probably saw that you had the Diary and feared that it would do the same to you. So the person took it back from you and is probably back under the control of that thing." Explained Matthew with a serious look.

"What should we do?" asked Hermione disturbed by the fact that there is some Student mind-controlled by an artifact.

"You? Nothing. Keep your heads down and focus on your Schoolwork. This is already dangerous enough. The Diary sounds like a really powerful dark artifact. I will try to find out more about the Diary and inform the Teachers once I am sure. Unlike you three I can keep myself safe." Said Matthew as he began to set up himself as the Hero in their minds. In a few days, it would be the right time to make himself a name in the Wizarding World by slaying the Basilisk and saving Ginny from the control of the Diary. The Play he was setting up for the whole school year was approaching its final act. And the beginning of his path to the top in the Wizarding World.

Afterward, he parted ways with the three younger Students and headed for the Room of Requirements. A few days ago he received a notification from the AI Chip that the Magitech Drones in the Room completed their Task. They also found something else that could prove interesting for him.

Once inside the room, he spotted his three Drones standing before his old Trunk in an idle position. Meanwhile, the Room was emptier and more organized than before. Although the Labyrinth still existed it was no longer randomly made. The Drones grouped similar Objects together and also created a mental map for Matthew if he ever needed to Access it.

All the useful things were meanwhile in his Trunk, be it magical Artifacts, Ingredients, Potions, Books and Notes, or just valuable things like Metals, Gems, Artwork, Jewelry, or even some Objects made of Goblin Silver like a dagger or some Jewelry. Interestingly they didn't find any money. Matthew guessed that the House Elves who filled the Room over the Centuries with the Lost things of the Inhabitants of the Castle, put any Money into the Vault of the School. After all, Hogwarts could find a use for the money, unlike the other Objects and Trash. Meanwhile, Matthew had an idea of what to do with the Goblin Silver Objects, if what he knew of their Culture was true he could use them to improve his standing with them and improve his Influence in the Wizarding World. Even get some Cash. The Goblins were powerful Allys to gain.

But that didn't matter right now. What really caught his interest was the thing currently resting on his Trunk. It was one of the strange multifaceted Stones he already found two of.

"Sarah scan it. Is it the same kind as the two others?"

[Beep! Scanning… Complete! Confirming similar Structure and Energy Signature like the previous Samples. The Soul inside is dormant.]

"Interesting, but also troublesome." Muttered Matthew as he stared at the Stone worried. The Drones almost missed the Stone, after all, it looked like a small stone and could easily misinterpret as a pebble. But one of his Drones literally stumbled over the Stone and fell. Coincidence? He didn't believe in such a coincidence. Especially since his Drones aren't supposed to fall over a stone. It was if the Stones wanted to get together and be found. Even if the Soul inside them was still sleeping. For now, he took the Stone with him but stored it inside a Box that he created for Horcruxes and kept it away from the others. He didn't want it to fuse with them like the two previous ones. From all, he knew the Being inside was too powerful. But leaving it here was too risky, he didn't know what would happen if it fell into wrong hands.
