Magic of Craetion

"In the beginning, there was darkness, but that darkness was not without form. Two great titans vied for supremacy, their unimaginably large forms were caressed by the void surrounding them but this did not impede their sight. Using methods only known to them they found their way through the darkness to reach the pinnacle.

The names of these colossal beings are etched into the souls of all life, not a name that could be pronounced or articulated by any mortal tongue but one which the very depths of your heart cries out.

We mortals in our search for knowledge and desire for control gave these titans names which we could understand.

The creator and the destroyer, the mother and the father, the light and the darkness, Aethrid and Aegol.

Aethrid and Aegol were born with their destinies already laid before them. Aethrid could not help but wish for more, through this she found her purpose, creation. Countless creations came into being through her will but none survived. Aegol detested all that was new, all that was different and so could not resist the urge to destroy Aethrid's creations.

But despite their differences they also loved each other dearly, as such even though their purposes were conflicting they never sought to harm the other.

Eons passed and this cycle of creation and destruction went on, but as time passed the desires of Aethrid and Aegon began to show, slowly they were losing themselves to their purpose.

Aegon knew that one day he would lose himself and hurt Aethrid in his instinctual search for destruction and so as he felt the control of his mind slipping away from him he made a decision. To protect the one he loved he would destroy himself.

However, there was a problem… Aegol's power was purely destructive, if he directed it at himself his soul would surely shatter preventing his reincarnation. He knew this and though it frightened him, he accepted it.

Aethrid discovered Aegon's plan and found herself unable to accept his fate, she knew that her existence was the root of his pain and so in a moment of utter desperation she fulfilled her purpose while saving her love.

Aethrid used her own being as the basis for creation, tearing herself apart she scattered her being across the void, the countless droplets of blood burned in their exposed state and became the first stars of the virgin universe, while her body separated into the many planets, moons and asteroids that litter space. And in a final moment of genius she allowed her energy to permeate her new creation and bring life into existence. Finally, her soul entered her creation's cycle of reincarnation.

Upon seeing her final act Aegon was filled with infinite grief, in his rage he almost destroyed Aethrid's creation but stopped when a moment of clarity came to him. Through her creation, he could spread and dilute his destructive force, mitigating it to some extent and allowing his soul to enter the cycle of reincarnation alongside her. And so he allowed his energy to flow out upon the new universe, mixing with the bright light of creation. Finally, he released his soul into his love's creation. Maybe one day, he might meet her again…"

"But Grandpa…" a young child whined.

"Yes child?" The old man said, the corners of his mouth forming the faintest smile.

The child's confidence grew at his beckoning, "What did Aegol's energy do? If Aethrid gave us life, then what did Aegol give us?"

The old man looked to the skies before finally replying "Aegol's darkness mixed with Aethid's light to give us… magic."
