24 Chapter 24: Blaze Life

Bang!

The dust that snuggled in the crevices of the walls and ceiling was disturbed as it disseminated to the surroundings.

Lon stared at the wooden door with nonchalance. He wasn't affected the slightest bit as he continued to fixate another broken machine in front of him.

"You're one of a hell bastard, don't you know that?"

A solemn voice came from behind him. If people didn't know better, they will say that it came from a little child trying to act like an adult.

He didn't take it as any other as he waved his hand to her.

"Not apologizing then? You clearly hurt her feelings for some reason."

"I don't give a damn. Whether I am a bastard, a shit, or a fool. Boy, girl, fatty, skinny, white, black, trans, or homo. They are all the same. They-"

Bang!

No matter what kind of speech or explanation is it, Beatrix didn't care as she left the scene. What matters the most is the 'landlady'. It will be troublesome if she and the caretaker are at odds. She disliked conflicts between two people that are essential to her.

'Wait for me, my VR setup!'

Staring at the door, Lon scratched and looked around the place. He couldn't understand why they are mad at him.

'Is it that time of the month again?'

That question was thrown out of the window because of how stupid it was. Their bodies are already in a state of 'death'. A suspended level where the body will not rot and would have the normal function the human body has at the same time. Even with the infinite theorem, there is no possibility that a female zombie would still undergo a menstrual cycle.

His short black-haired head rotated and glanced everywhere. That was only when he realized how shitty the place became. It's beyond the comprehension of a normal person of how disastrous the living room is.

In fact, some parts are totally irreversible. Like the molten floor, fading wallpapers, and fast deteriorating ceiling. The appliances were also hopeless because they became scraps hours ago including the sofa and the dining table.

'If isn't an internal issue then it could only be an external something that threatens her mind?'

'Was I too much?'

Lon shook his head as he decided. The problem will be solved only after he finished the thing in front of him.

It was seven days ago that a wonderful question popped in his head. A wonderful one that could potentially become the new source of energy.

For that, he constructed another 'Blood Harvester' and 'Yin Extreme, Yang Extreme' along with other smaller alchemy formations. They weren't simply put in another medium like papers or coffin lids, instead, he installed them on storage machines.

Devices that can store energy in the form of electricity for later use. These things are cheap because of their availability and known production method. It comes in different types but Lon picked the most common one, the solid electric battery.

Some of them have drawings on their outer coverings and others have scrap papers inserted in non-essential areas of their designs. Then comes the question he has for himself.

What if the stored energy is transformed into the basic energy form commonly used nowadays?

That was the main point and idea that made him sidetracked from his main project, the imitation of an artifact.

Nonetheless, such a hypothesis isn't proven until now. The constant explosions and configurations he did is evidence to back up such a conclusion.

Every time the elusive magic is connected, directly or indirectly, transformed or originated, to the storage cells, it will weirdly heat up, ending in most cases a small explosion.

He hasn't still surrendered as he prepared another one.

Boom!

...

In some cases, people cannot see the whole light spectrum. The same is said to a lamppost near a darkened alleyway. It blinked in, it blinked out of existence.

Sitting on the dirty ground is Nana staringly blankly on the wall opposite of her.

"Ya know, crying wouldn't make any differences."

A childish voice came out of nowhere but she wasn't the slightest bit alarmed because it was the same one she has heard before.

"Not that you could still produce tears with that kind of body."

Beatrix came inside the alleyway like a sweetheart girl wearing a virgin killer sweater with a kitchen knife behind her succulent back.

"Hehehe, what are you weeping for? It's not like the both of you two are that close."

Her voice is childish yet it contained a hidden venom that will kill even deities for the daring.

"Come on, tell me. It won't mind you talking about it. if there's someone that will listen to your problems, it will relieve some burden."

Hesitant at first, Nana has still her reservations to this strange woman she never heard or seen before. The best way to do this is to paraphrase her story.

"I have a friend, we are close but I'm worried for her future."

"Why is that?" Beatrix asked as she stood up before her, looking down with curiosity at the down-trodden black-haired head.

"I'm afraid that she is in danger because one of her possessions can be considered a treasure. One that will cost her life if known."

"That's it? You resented Lon for that sole reason?" Beatrix found it ridiculous if all of that drama is just because of this.

"Something like that but the thing is, he's irritating." She sounded unsure but firm the latter half of her sentence.

"Hahahahahaha!" Bursting with giggles and unbridled laughter, she just let out it all, causing Nana to have a bad impression of her. "I'm sorry for suddenly laughing but you're correct about that point. He's irritating."

That surprised her a little bit because she might not be a total bitch as she first thought. Only to be disappointed with reality in her following statements.

"But I will tell you, that man doesn't care if you're butthurt, worried, or unwell."

"There's only one thing he sees in everything, their values."

"Can this thing help me? Can this man benefit me? Can this company lift me up from my financial crisis?"

"That's how his line of thinking works. Even if you're a galactic emperor or the scion of an influential family, he will still reject you if it doesn't bring any unconditional advantage to him in those cases."

"That's the irritating point about him, right?"

Nana couldn't agree more with her because she has basically listed the most negative aspect of Lon's personality, his objectification.

"More or less, that's the perfect description." She said, agreeing with this woman. Seeing her raise her head and gain some clarity in her distant blue eyes. A plan quickly hatched on her head as she said with a nod.

"It seems that you're just tired and not that angry about him?"

"I don't know." Nana shook her head, unsure of what really it is about.

"I know a way of knowing." Without asking for permission, Beatrix dragged her hand with undeniable strength as she yanked the girl from her confused status.

"Wait, wait, wait up!"

"Come on let's go!"
