1 The Beginning

In an abandoned house on the outskirts of a town called Purple Cove there was a little girl all alone. She had a small and slight stature with bright blue eyes and long golden hair. She was only eight years old and looked like many of the other children in town but she was an orphan. She had been living in this house on her own for as long as she could remember. It was nothing special and she had no belongings. She slept on a pile of old rags she had collected from the waste of the townspeople. She had no parents, no family. But she was used to it, she didn't know any different.

She took a bucket and went to the river not far from town to gather some water to bathe and cook. She wasn't the best cook but she knew how to do enough to keep herself nourished. There was a small herb garden next to her house and she plucked a few to add to the boiling water to make a soup.

From the outside, she looked like an ordinary girl but everyone knew she was anything but ordinary. The townspeople were scared of her and the other children would taunt and torment her every chance they got so she stayed to herself. She knew what they felt and why they treated her that way, she was indeed different. She could see and hear things that othera could not. She could sense when something bad was about to happen as well as when good things were coming. She could see the spirits of living things, the brighter the spirit, the stronger the life force. She could hear the whispers of nature. There were a few things the townspeople didn't know though. She also had the ability to influence her surroundings without touching them and she could make a spark for a fire with just a snap of her fingers. She hid these abilities because she knew they weren't normal. She didn't know how or why she had these powers. She didn't know anything about her past or where she came from. All she had was a small Jade pendant around her neck. It was the only clue she had about her past so she treasured it deeply.

After eating her soup, she went about busying herself around the house. She had taught herself how to do various things to help make her life a little more normal. She cleaned the room and washed up. She braided her hair sloppily and tied it up with a ribbon. Then she went back to the little table in the kitchen and took out some old books and bits of paper. She has been teaching herself to read and write using the discarded books from her neighbors. She was a smart child and learned very quickly. There was almost nothing that she couldn't understand.

After she decided she was done with her studies she decided to go hunting for something to eat for dinner. She was used to hunting small animals like rabbits and birds. She preferred the rabbits though because she could also sell their pelts for a couple silver coins in town. It was easy for her to track her prey with her ability to see their spirits, she only needed to focus.

Today was a bit strange though. She came to the forest at the east edge of town like usual but there was an abundance of spiritual energy. Normally she would only see the spiritual energy of the small creatures but today it was so thick she could almost touch it. She couldn't tell the source of this spiritual abundance but she wasn't afraid. She actually felt very peaceful. It felt strange but familiar at the same time. She had never had this feeling before!

As she cautiously looked around she spotted a quite unusual creature. It was floating in the air about 10 meters ahead of her. It was a small winged beast like she had never seen before. It was small, about the size of a fox, but it had a smooth, glistening blue body with small golden spikes down its spine and a long supple tail with a spear shaped end. It had blazing red eyes and purple tipped wing flapping gently. It was looking right at her. She slowly stepped forward, moving toward the strange flying beast one step at a time. She stopped only a meter away from it.

"Wow!" she whispered, trying not to scare it.

She was amazed by this little creature. She slowly circled it, studying it from every angle. The beast did not move. It was almost like it was waiting for her. When she stopped circling and stood back in front of it again, she looked straight into its eyes. The beast gazed back at her and suddenly a bright light burst forth, aiming straight for her heart.
