3 Chapter 2

Cassy remembered her mother sitting her down and began to tell her of how Tess meet Cassy's father. Tess explained to her that when she was in her younger years, she was rebellious, a wild child, and never listened to her mother Cora about harnessing her powers. Tess has come into her power at a young age, 13 years old. The youngest of any witch to come into powers. Witches are born in one type of power but for Tess she could practice several. Almost everyone in her family were born with an elemental power. Not Tess though, she was born with several powers. Tess born as an elemental witch but she could control all four not just one. Also, several family members could shape shift and Tess could shift into almost any animal.

When she turned 13, Tess meet Calcifer, her familiar. He was huge black raven, three times the normal size, and he had dark blue intelligent eyes. He helped her thru all the worst times in her life. They were both connected and bonded together. Both Tess and Calcifer could sense the other and always know where the other one was at.  Then at 17, Tess's magical powers became even more powerful. She was told by her mother Cora that was born to be the next grand witch. Leader or at one time title of queen to all witches. There hasn't been a grand witch in centuries. Not since Anna Maria, the first witch to bring together all living beings and the town New Haven.

Tess couldn't believe it, that she was destined to be the next leader. Only the second white witch born in centuries. The power and responsibilities that came with it scared Tess for she was only 17, and only wanted to be a normal teenager. The pressure and power scared her, so Tess ran away from home. While on the run, she meet a young man, Lucian. He was living with a coven of witches in New York when she meet him. He wasn't like any man she have ever met before in her hometown. Something about him seemed different, and Tess couldn't put her finger on it. She could sense some kind of power coming off from him, she could read peoples aura as part of her magical abilities. Even her familiar Calcifer could sense power from Lucian.

When she left home, she took what she could carry in a old worn out duffle bag, her black leather jacket, some cash and her uncle's car which was a vintage 69 dark blue mustang. The car she took was belonged to her uncle, which Tess and him rebuilt together. Marcus was her mother's brother and he too was born into magical abilities. He could also shape shift, and was into vintage American muscle cars. Tess knew he would be mad, but he would understand why she had to leave.

Tess has never been outside of her town, or on her own. She have always wanted to see New York City, or any other place that was a small sea side town.

Tess was told by her mother that there was rumors of a coven of witches that were living in what was left of Central Park up in New York. Cora her mother told her that other covens were not like the ones in New Haven. They didn't think that other creatures should live together in peace.

Traveling these days were dangerous, ever since the wars that happened nearly 100 years ago. Things were different. There were still major city's that survived and humans learned to adapt in this new age of mythical creatures revealed their existence to the world. One had to be carful while traveling.

Calcifer tried to talk some sense into her but she was determined to leave. So, he came with her, telling her he wouldn't let her go alone to a strange city and to a strange coven. Which he too had heard about. This coven of witches practiced blood magic. These witches used magic using blood rituals. It was dark magic, and dangerous spells. Cora told Tess that not many witches still practiced old magic.

When they arrived she made her way into the city. Tess knew where to look for the witches coven. Her mother Cora had taught each of her daughters where find others like them if they ever in need of help. She used a little of her magic to help find the coven's entrance. Their location was hidden in Central Park. When she finally made her way there, Calcifer could sense them, the other witches. That is where Tess came across Lucian. For some reason he was part of the very coven she was searching for. It was him and three other witches that sensed Tess and Calcifer near them and the four of them decided meet the young witch who had traveled hundreds of miles from the south and across dangerous roads to get there.

The three witches and Lucian introduced themselves but were cautious. Cause of the times they lived in could be dangerous. Tess was also very carful about giving her name Hartford. If these witches were the ones her mother warned her about she didn't want to give her last name. Calcifer warned her that other covens out there would want to use Tess's powers for their own selfish dark reasons. Not all witches thought living peacefully with other creatures was a good idea. There were other covens and other creatures such as the vampires wanted to eliminate each other so they can be the dominant race. And to learn of her being the next grand witch, they might not be so keen on the idea of having a ruler to bow to.

Once Tess and Calcifer made their way to New York and they followed the signs to the hidden magical entrance of the coven. Only a witch could find another coven by using magic. So when Tess and Calcifer got closer, they parked the mustang a little ways from Central Park and used an invisibility spell to hide it. As she approached the four of them, she could sense powerful magic and auras coming from the handsome stranger standing beside the three other witches. Tess had never meet a man with ice blue eyes, his were intense looking, he stood at least 6 feet tall, he was wearing black jeans, army boots and a grey t shirt. He had dark black hair, and he looked ever so handsome. Tess was so focused on this good looking man, that she didn't realize she was spacing out until Calcifer who was perched on her shoulder got her attention. Tess looked at the other three women who stood beside the tall Hanson stranger. One of them stepped forward and asked her, "And who may you be young witch?"

This came from one of the witches that stood before Tess. She was on older witch; her hair was the color silver, she had tattoos of sigils up and down both arms, she was wearing dark blue jeans, black boots and flowing green tank top. "I'm Tess Demoor and this is Calcifer."

"You've been traveling a long way." The second witch said that. She was far younger then the one with silver hair. This witch had long blond hair which was braided, she wore a long brown skirt, white button down shirt, and brown cowboy boots.

"We came from down south, after both of my folks  passed away and we are making are way up to Toronto. I have some family left up there. And wanted to be with what family I have left." It was lie but Tess had to be carful of what she said to these witches. For she sensed dark magic from them. And the tall handsome man with them, there was powerful aura coming from him.
