Surrounded Adventurers

As the adventurer team and Glin progressed towards the other side of Kisan Mountains, encountering Night Wolves were more frequent. Because of this, they had to hang their beds up on the tall trees to have no worries in their sleep.

After the dinner, they also sprayed special fragrance on their own to disguise their human smell from the wolves.

Also, there must be one to keep watch of the surroundings while the others are asleep. For this job, Glin has volunteered. However, Gayne and Xanus would never agree to him doing the job totally all night. After all, he was not a real member of the party. Hence, they assigned Ron to switch with Glin later and take over the last half of the job.

When it has been decided, the others went to sleep after the fun story-telling.

The surroundings quickly dimmed out as the little fire lamps they hanged on the tree branches were killed off. It was then followed by silence.

Glin only waited and leaned his back on the highest branch of the tree. He took his time to look at the beautiful moons: The sky had two bright half-moons—one big and one small. At the same time, he thought about his previous days; it was fun being with the Gayne and the others…

Three hours later, Glin was already feeling sleepy. But suddenly, he heard several wolves howling at the same time. The howls were from the northwest, less than two kilometers away. His face went solemn, pondering.

As if he came to a decision, he suddenly stood up and jumped off the tree branch. He jumped from tree branch to tree branch, and swing over the others. It did not take long until he was already on the ground, under the large tree where they hanged beds.

For a moment, he glanced above him. It seemed like no one was awaken by the wolves' howls.

Under the moonlight, Glin ran silently across the woods. He held his two swords with him.

Finally, after a few minutes, Glin arrived near the place where the howls came from. There was a low cliff and a narrow valley where there were less trees and most are grasses. From the top of the cliff where he hid, many black figures present in the open valley could be seen under the moonlight.

They were Night Wolves; Glin already recognized them at first glance. Apparently, he was a bit surprised by their numbers. He already saw twelve of them in just one glance.

The other thing he noticed was that there were also people in the small grass valley. Six people were surrounded by twelve Night Wolves. From the looks of it, it seemed like they were also adventurers who must have been chased out of the woods and caught nowhere else to go in this open valley.

Meanwhile, Glin didn't move closer and crouched behind the tall grasses growing near the edges of the cliff. He watched as the battle started between the two sides.

There was no point running away when the enemies are faster; the six people was aware of this so they fought hard to reduce the number of Night Wolves. Fortunately, all of them were Elite Mages and had experiences, from what Glin has seen. They were absolutely stronger and more capable than Gayne's group.

At this moment, they applied a tactic to avoid getting flanked by the Night Wolves at once while being surrounded. The use of Earth and Ice magic spells was maximized, building temporary walls that spread the forces of the enemies. They then dealt with the closest as fast as possible.

Unfortunately, agility was their enemy. Although they managed to slow down the Night Wolves, the latter always found their way closer to attacked them. The six adventurers had no choice but to defend and attack without resting, or they'll be dead otherwise.

Two of them had magic relics, a spear and a sword, and they killed two Night Wolves in five minutes. But at the same time, three members were also wounded. They became less able to move around in the valley after that.

Fire and blood splashed as the battle progressed towards the end. After thirty minutes, there were still five Night Wolves left; the wolves became cautious when their numbers slowly decreased and the battle progressed slower. At the same time, five people from the group were severely wounded and among them, two were down and unconscious. They were all tired and barely have any mana left to cast an elite-level spells.

"Damn it! We can't die here!" One of the adventurers who wield a magic spear yelled loudly, encouraging his comrades.

"I'm out of mana," a muscular man from beside him said while breathing and sweating heavily. He took out a dagger from his pocket and reverse-gripped the handle bravely.

"Me too, almost. I can only unleash the power of my sword relic at most twice now," another man said and gritted his teeth as he evaded the Night Wolf that pounced towards him.

"Alicia, you protect Red and Hestia," the man with the spear relic glanced to the girl behind him. Red and Hestia were the ones who were already unconscious.

The girl named Alicia casted a basic ice spell. Next to her, chunks of ice crystals glowed under the moonlight. The ice crystals formed a dome which covered the two bodies of her unconscious comrades.

But casting the ice spell was no longer as easy as before. Her face now showed signs of weariness. They have been dragging the battle too long, and since the beginning, she had been using her mana to create ice walls and obstruct the demon wolves from attacking her comrades together..

Alicia nodded.

The Night Wolves pounced towards them again. Even with their level of intelligence, they seemed to have realized their upper hand against their prey.

Three in the front and two in the rear, the Night Wolves charged from five directions towards the group of people being surrounded.

When the two wolves from the rear got closed enough, Alicia quickly summoned the Ice Spike Trap. But this elite-level ice spell was only enough to stop the wolves and not kill them. Five icicles grew from the ground almost instantly and stroke the two Nights Wolves. They made scratches on the beasts and neutralized their momentum but they also broke down into pieces on impact.

At this time, the man with the magic sword leaped forward and brandished his sword in the air twice in a row. Suddenly, two wind blades followed by a strong gust of wind flew towards the two wolves. When the wind blades hit the wolves, the one who happened to be a bit closer received heavier damage: Its neck was cut half way through and the wound extend to the chest and to the shoulder. Whilst, the other Night Wolf, which was a bit farther, got hit from the shoulder to the chest but was not critical.

One Night Wolf choked and fell to ground; blood flew out from between its pointed teeth as the signs of life slowly faded. At the same time, the other one next to it jumped to the side and didn't go nearer, growling out of anger and pain.

Meanwhile, on the other side, the man with the spear and the muscular man with a sharp dagger fought the other three Night Wolves. One fought with his magic spear and all his magic left while the other fought with short blade and physical strength.

Pouring all his remaining mana to his spear relic, the man threw his spear towards the wolf in the middle. It bolted like lightning and the flash of light could be seen from a distance.

The spear relic stuck on the Night Wolf's chest. With the effect of concentrated lightning energy, smoke evaporated from the wet flesh and blood oozed from the deep and severe wound.

The Night Wolf was instantly dead. But it also costed the man's final drop of mana.

Drawing the dagger, he kept on his hip, he desperately prepared to defend against the other Night Wolves charging towards him and the others.

But judging from how the battle was progressing towards the end, against these fierce demon wolves, they were nothing without their magic. Even if they are given an ample of rapid healing potions, there was no guarantee for winning without mana. All of them were exhausted.

After two minutes, they were out of healing potions, Alicia also ran out of mana, and there were still three Night Wolves alive.

At this moment, Alicia failed to control her tears. She was still young and hadn't have enough of life, so she naturally feared death. Without magic, a single Night Wolf could easily kill and slaughter her, let alone three Night Wolves. She had never felt this scared in her entire life.

As the three Night Wolves surrounded them, they were forced towards each other. Hope quickly faded from their faces and horror completely replaced it…
