13 HIRED AND FIRED IN A DAY

Mina abruptly stood up when she realized that she was awkwardly lying with her tummy over an unknown man. The worst thing was he seemed not just some ordinary man. Mina knew he wasn't just a driver or a guard with his formal and expensive-looking suit.

'He probably is….' Mina thought as she tried to guess.

"Mr. Donohoe, sir, I'm so sorry for the clumsiness of this new helper." Lisa swiftly ran and pulled Mr. Donohoe to his feet.

Mr. Donohoe, on the other hand, didn't receive Lisa's helping hand, and instead, he handed her the figurines and stood up on his own.

"Sir, My apology," Mina closed her eyes of fear. She hated herself for messing up again. She could already anticipate that it wouldn't take long for her to be thrown outside of the door again. However, the expectation of hurtful comments from her boss didn't happen. Instead, he glanced at Mina for a moment while brushing the dust out of his suit and walked away.

Didn't Mina know how she should feel about that? Was that better or worst? Lisa hissed while shaking her head and pulling the electronic scrubber out of Mina's hand.

At lunchtime, everyone in the kitchen, including the chef, the gardener, Vira, and Lisa, shared their speculation about what happened to Mina.

"I'm sorry, Mina. After knowing your story, I could say that today was such an awful day for you." Oscar, the driver, commented.

"Don't say that. We didn't know that Mr. Owen hadn't said anything about Mina yet. If he hated what happened this morning, he probably had called her in less than an hour and fired her." Cormack said. He was thin and distinguishable with his job as a gardener since he was always wearing a hat and boots.

"Of course, Mr. Owen wasn't pleased about it. He looked so annoyed. I could see it on his face, and his jaws were clenching and trying to restrain it. Maybe he was just tired yet and was resting. But, I'm pretty sure Mina will get fired today,' Lisa remarked.

"Stop it, Lisa, don't assume over our boss's thoughts," Vira called out.

"Let's hope that's not will happen. We all know and saw how he fired the old driver when he saw him in the living room. His reason was just that the driver's job was in the garage and not in the living room." said Penny, the chef.

"That was another story. That driver was in the living room because he was flirting with Lisa," Cormack explained.

Their conversation was interrupted by Vira's phone ringing. Her eyes widened by the number which appeared on her phone, and glanced over Mina.

The rest could already anticipate who the caller was. All of them glanced back and forth towards Mina and Vira.

"Owen, do you need anything?" Vira answered the phone. Mr. Donohoe was just like a younger nephew or brother to her. She and her mother had been working in that mansion when she was still a ten-year-old kid and when Owen was just a baby and Lottie was hadn't been adopted.

That was why calling him Mr. Donohoe or Mr. Owen was only for a formal occasion.

"Can you please tell the new girl helper to come to my office and bring me some tea?. I also need to talk to her."

Vira turned on the phone's loudspeaker voice and made sure that everyone in the room had heard what Mr. Owen said.

"I know i. It's time. He wants to talk to her, to fire her." Lisa stood up on the chair to show off her comment.

No one else gave their remark after Lisa. Each one of them was staring towards Mina with an apologetic look. They didn't want to say it vocally. However, all of them could guess the same.

Mina, without another world, instantly walked to the kitchen counter and prepared Mr. Owen's tea. Tiny tears came out of her eyes.

Even though she didn't want to believe it, she could guess that maybe she was only meant to stay inside that mansion for hours. She hadn't even gotten a complete twenty-four hours.

She had left her home last night, and probably she would just force herself to go back to her father's home tonight. She had no other choice but to sleep on the street or ask for forgiveness from her dad.

She was hesitating to knock on Mr. Owen's door. Mina had to take a series of deep breaths before her knuckles finally touched the wooden part of the door.

"Please come in," a calm manly voice answered from inside.

It had been a struggle for Mina to hold the tray with Owen's tea without spilling it. She could hardly have her hands steady.

Mr. Owen's eyes were busy staring over his laptop the moment she opened the door. She stood, speechless, in front of him for a moment, trying to hold her emotions. She hoped that she could get out of that office without her tears spilling.

It only took less than a minute for Owen to notice her. His brow furrowed when he looked at her. Mina's cherry-colored face had a funny, scared, and lonely expression that Owen couldn't help but notice. Its redness ran all over her ears and neck, and with it was her pouty lips shaking.

He smiled, amused with how scared she looked, and felt sorry for her. Owen hadn't got a chance to look at her that morning thoroughly, she was avoiding his gaze, and he could guess it was because she was intimidated.

"Kindly put the tea here?" he pointed to the vacant space on his desk.

Mina walked towards his desk as cautiously as possible since she could feel Mr. Owen's eyes on her, following her every move.

Nevertheless, despite how much Mina tried, she found it hard to control her hands. Tea was spilling over the tray as she tried to pour the tea into its cup.

What she wasn't expecting, Owen put his hands over her to help her with the tea.

"Calm down; why do you look so scared? Do I look like a monster?"
