7 Chapter 6 - Visitations

That night she had the most restful sleep she had had in a long time. Until she was woken up, not by the alarm, but by a mysterious knock at the door.

She looked at the clock and it read quarter past six, much earlier than she would have preferred to be awoken. Nevertheless, she hastily got changed and approached the door without complaints as it could be important, considering they were still there after she was ready to see them.

Another shock welcomed her when she opened the door.

"Oh my god, not again! What do you want now, Jessie?" She said, with lukewarm rage in her lost eyes.

"Please, I just.. can I walk you to school?" He replied, with an unspecified kind tone.

This was an unexpected response and she agreed before properly realizing what she was getting herself into, it was early in the morning after all.

The walk started off as a sour silence but was soon broken when he said

"Look, I get it you're mad at me but can you please let me explain myself?"

She didn't really respond, she just kept on walking.

He kept on trying to get her talking and when all else failed, he did something that changed everything.

He reached for something hidden under his collar.

Before her very eyes, a locket, identical to hers.

She was speechless for a moment then had trouble getting her words out.

"I'll explain everything one day, but not now, the current circumstances aren't really ideal." He said before she could make an attempt.

"What do you mean?"

"As I said, I'll explain absolutely everything someday."

The remains of the walk were still mysterious and unusual, but the two began talking, they got to know each other quite well in the time they had.

Jessie lead them to a bench that didn't seem like anything special because she was lost in their conversation. It wasn't until they were about to leave for school when she noticed that this was the little secret garden that, supposedly, only she and Ethan knew about.

"Wait a second, how did you know about this place?"

"I have my reasons."

At this point, Clarity didn't even question what this meant. She still saw this as one big cliche, it humoured her a little, this storyline seemed like a corny mystery movie that was poorly written.

They talked for hours, Clarity finally allowed herself to smile and laugh, and open up to him a little. She kept her guard up, though. She was still unsure whether this was all for reputation or money, or something worse.

School was far amidst, but she decided this was more important.

For the entirety of that day, they strolled around town, finally getting to know eachother properly, and they continued to do this after school for a matter of days.

She had grown to dismiss the past. She hadn't forgiven him and was far from trusting him, but she could sort of value him as a friend now.
