1 An ambush in the Night

Qingdu City, 9 pm.

The night is deep.

The moonlight provides a soft glow, illuminating the deep and mysterious darkness of the woods, creating a surreal atmosphere. The trees create a canopy of shadows that seem to dance in the light of the moon.

A car passes through, the sound of its engine blending with the gentle hum of nature.

Jiang Yue who was sitting in the back seat of the car while testing a game on her phone, stopped when a message popped up.

Diang Ning: [Have you met President Luo, Big Boss? Although the hospitals under their company are the best ones out there, if you're still not satisfied with it, tell me and I'll try to reach out to other hospitals.]

She raised her eyebrow when she read the text.

Then she replied 'No'.

She planned to meet President Luo the day after tomorrow.

She then went back to the game and after checking that it has no bugs with the updates and no problem with the game's interface, she then texted another subordinate of hers.

She set aside her phone and heard Jiang Xiu ask with anticipation, "Sister, how many days will you stay with us?"

"Three days," she replied.

"Oh," Jiang Xiu reacted, her tone dripping with disappointment.

"Do you want me to take you to Ningyi Town tomorrow?" Wen Gang inquired, his gaze drawn to Jiang Yue, who was sitting with her legs wide open like a man and leaning on the back seat lazily with her arms crossed.

He couldn't help but think that the rumors about her going out with gangsters weren't baseless.

"We can go there by ourselves," Jiang Yue answered with a deadpan tone.

Afraid that the old guy would be offended by how her sister refused his offer, Jiang Xiu immediately added, "Thank you for offering Uncle Wen but Sister can take me there."

"With her motorcycle again?" Wen Gang scoffed, "The both of you haven't turned eighteen yet. What if you got caught? Let's not even talk about if her motorcycle has all its needed files, just the penalty of a minor driving one is enough to get the both of you in trouble."

"...but I think sister has a student's permit," Jiang Xiu whispered.

"I don't have one."

Wen Gang's eyes twitched when he heard that.

"She isn't even a student, in what way can she even get one?"

Jiang Yue simply raised her brow at his comment.

How many times has she heard that kind of tone when people are speaking to her?

She couldn't keep tabs anymore and at this point, she doesn't care anymore.

Just as she was gonna close her eyes, she felt a shift in the air, and the languid feel around her was gone in an instant, replacing it was a domineering and dangerous aura.

She stood up and immediately grabbed the steering wheel to stir it in an unexpected manner.

"What are you doing?! Get y—"

"Drive!"

"I was doing that!" Wen Gang was furious.

Jiang Xiu stared at her sister's cold face and her face paled when a sudden thought struck her.

"Don't drive straight, steer it to side from time to time!" Jiang Yue instructed with gritted teeth as she grabbed her phone to call someone, but there was a sudden pop sound and the car lost control.

"What just happened?!" Wen Gang shouted as he tried to control the car but there was nothing he can do but lessen its momentum.

"The car's tire is shot, park it on the side."

Wen Gang was dumbstruck when he heard that.

Another pop can be heard, Jiang Yue cursed under her breath and instantly grabbed Jiang Xiu and tried to cover her body with hers. The car stirred outside of the road and crashed into a tree.

The impact made Jiang Yue lurch forward, hitting her back on the car's dashboard.

"Sister..." Jiang Xiu whispered, dumbfounded as she stared at her, her eyes glistening with tears. Before she can even utter the next words, gunshots can be heard, and a hole appeared in the back of the car.

"Get off the car!" Jiang Yue looked at Wen Gang whose color was already drained from his face. "Do you have a gun?" He nodded, "On... on the dashboard." Jiang Yue opened it and grabbed the gun as she checked the number of bullets.

"Stay low, I'll cover," She first got out of the car with her body covering the front of the door.

Gunshots can still be heard going off.

She leads the two of them deeper into the forest.

Going out to the road will only make them an open target.

"Uncle, go and hide with Jiang Xiu."

Jiang Xiu right away grabbed her hand.

"What about you?" The girl asked in a voice that can be barely heard.

"Go with Uncle, I'll find the two of you—" Feeling the sudden shift of wind in the air, she removed Jiang Xiu's hand and pushed the two of them.

"Let's go!" Wen Gang grabbed Jiang Xiu and dragged her.

Jiang Yue felt a force hit her on her right shoulder just where Jiang Xiu was standing a while ago.

She aimed the pistol and pulled the trigger.

The sound of a body falling on the ground can be heard soon after.

A smirk slowly formed on her lips as her eyes glinted toward the dim forest.

"Come out."
