Chapter 24

Asher's POV

I make my way into the dining room after the conversation I had with Dominic a few minutes ago. The hall is not that full as the way it is for dinner this is because the pups and teenagers are still in school, so is the working class of adults in the pack.

"What was that all about?" Sally asks as I take a seat at our normal table the rest of our small gang absent.

"Honestly I have no idea." I respond. "It was weird actually can you believe he asked me about my welfare".

"No way!" Elias exclaims dropping the fork of pasta he was about to put in his mouth.

"It seems unbelievable but he was just smiling and all"

"Which is so unlike him" Sally adds.

"Yeah" Elias butts in. "Maybe he got laid or something" he whispers leaning over the table towards Sally and I opposite him.

Sally lets out a low chuckle while I shake my head at him.

"Hey guys" Lizzie greets coming over to meet us at our table.

"Hi to you too" Sally greets as Lizzie takes a seat beside Elias.

"I had the most amazing day" She squeals. I see she's back to her normal self I can't help but smile at her.

"How? What did you do?" Elias asks

"Well you know my super-hot extremely handsome cousin"

"The one who's a model" Sally cuts her off.

I roll my eyes at their topic of discussion. Dylan I think is his name, that guy caused a lot of heart wrecks in the pack years ago.

He was just that notorious. Girls didn't get the fact that he was a player instead they literally threw themselves at him. And let's just say that guy wasn't really the men's favourite. He left the pack years ago to terrorize women elsewhere and then he became a model.

"What the heck is he doing here?" Elias asks slightly offended. Yes Winnie was one of his many admirers

"This is his home after all you can't crucify him for coming home" Lizzie retorts.

"He hasn't been here for like five years and now he's here to steal our mates right!" Elias exclaims his hand hitting the table at the end of his rant. Sally and Lizzie laugh openly at him while I keep my fisted hand in my mouth stifling my laughter. There is nothing more hilarious than a man going territorial on his mate.

"Chill will you" Sally chuckles.

"Yeah, don't worry about that he found his mate and he brought her here" Sally explains taking a hamburger from the mass of shopping bag she put on the table.

"Good" he says clearly relived.

"You have to see them together they are like a really cute power couple" she gushes.

"Awn that's so cute" Elias remarks sarcastically.

I just laugh as I dig into my lunch.

"You should see the amount of girls eye raping him in the mall" Lizzie remarks. I thought the girls will actually stop now that he has a mate but it guess it doesn't end there. Now this I want to hear.

"No way" I say

"Yes way. There were ladies ranging in ages there. Look around there are only a few here and didn't you notice there's a man instead of the usual lunch lady behind the food stand" Lizzie says

I look around and true to her observations there are a few here and the lunch lady is a guy with a hair net.

"This is just ridiculous. I mean I know I am way better looking than that guy" I say cockily.

"Oh Asher" Sally mutters

"You are actually but you ignore females like as if you're gay or something" Lizzie counters

"I do not!" I exclaim

Wait do I?

"That's because he claims to only have eyes for his mate" Sally adds.

"True that, but dude live a little" Lizzie retorts looking me in the eye

"I will with my mate" I say like a sappy romantic that I am... well in the deepest cervices of my mind.

"Oh here he comes again" Elias says like as if he has heard this line one too many times. Maybe he has heard but its the true I will start living once again when I find my mate

"Let's not even go into his matter" Sally concludes.

The week went by smoothly and then the next one came. The news of Dylan's arrival had died down and he actually came to stay so females in the pack toned down their craziness and fan-girling moments.

Things around the pack were okay as usual except for Dominic. He was happy so much that it freaked me out. Not only that we have been having visitors of Dominic's Alpha friends.

My best guess is that they are meeting about the Lycans. What saddens me is that I don't even have any idea of what is going on. I even tried talking to Zachary, Dominic's beta. That guy is tight lipped as they come all he did was stare at me while I talked his ear off.

"Guys you wouldn't believe the news I heard just now" Sally says barging into the office.

"What is it?" I ask looking up from the monthly reports I was going through.

"Alpha Frederick and Luna Stephanie of the Crescent moon pack are fucking dead" she yells pacing the room.

"What?" Elias and I say simultaneously as we both rise to our feet.

"You fucking heard me don't make me repeat myself" she says obviously restless

"How? Heck when the hell did this happen?" I say hoping to get answers

"Was it a rogue attack?" Elias asks.

"All I know is that they were murdered in cold blood in the middle of the night on their vacation not even on pack grounds" Sally explains.

Fuck! This is unbelievable. Werewolves just don't get killed like this. It had to be a fucking ambush. Who the hell will plan such? As far as I know those two made a very huge impact in the werewolf world. Who will be actually wicked to kill them after all the countless things they have done for us. They were always there to help packs who were under rogue attacks. Alpha Frederick has saved so many lives heck people worship the ground he fucking walks on. I had a privilege of staying over at his pack and during that weekend I cried myself to sleep wishing for that type of man for a father.

And last I heard about him they were just stepping down for his son, Jonah and his mate after 275 years of reigning.

"This is horrible" Elias says.

"There should be news of it on the news" I mutter to myself as I scramble towards the coffee table to get the remote. And there it is, the fucking news headline.

BREAKING NEWS

"Alpha Frederick and Luna Stephanie have been reported dead as they were murdered in their hotel suite in Germany, as they were on their vacation after stepping down from the pack to their Son just three days before."

"The crime scene was said to have been a pool of blood as the guards of The Alpha and Luna were also killed brutally with what we can identify as a silver knife with which their throats were split. "

Now lets hear what the Chief Security officer of the Alpha has to say about this.

Reporter: What can you say about this assassination?

CSO: Honestly I don't know I am quite devastated with this heart wrenching news.

Reporter: You are the Chief Security Officer of the now late Alpha and Luna. Is there any reason why you didn't accompany them on this trip?

CSO: I asked Alpha Frederick several times to accompany him but he refused to let me. He said that I had to stay back and watch the pack. I even sent the best pack fighters we had but the assassins managed to eliminate them.

Reporter: Is there any one you can pin point this wicked act of perpetration to?

CSO: I have been working with the Alpha for years now and all we have are allies not enemies. I can't think of anyone that would do such a heinous act. Even rouge attacks are foreign to us.

Reporter: Our viewers and the rest of the werewolf population will like to know what you found at the crime

CSO: Sigh..the crime scene was bloody. As we know the throats of the guards were slit with what we can assume as a silver knife. We also assume that a type of sedative gas was used to put the inhabitants of the hotel unconscious. We also found bullet casings. That's all we can disclose for now. We will let the rest of the world know when the autopsy reports are out.

Well there you have it, the CSO of the late Alpha and Luna has spoken..

"Silver bullets" Elias mutters.

"Fuck" Sally curses. "This is so unbelievable" Elias chimes in. "What kind of sick demented fuck will actually kill them"

My mind was racing. I couldn't focus on a particular thought. Who? Are they actually assassins? Who the hell sent them? Why? Im not even sure the attack might be a rogue attack, Alpha Feder..late Alpha Frederick didn't see the bad in rogues, all he could see was giving them another chance at what they didn't have that turned them rogues. Or could it have been hunters? But someone who still have to send them. Christ this so confusing.

The whole pack was moody due to the sudden death of our heroes. Even little infants who didn't know what was going on felt the tense atmosphere. We were all gathered on the field awaiting the Alpha's...well to me Dominic's speech concerning the late Alpha and Luna.

I was on the small platform standing behind were the Alpha was supposed to stand. Beside me was Zachary and on my other side Sally and Elias. The noisy atmosphere turned silent as Dominic made his way to stand on the podium.

"Good day everyone. I hope we've all had a fine day. "

"The news of the sudden death of our now late Alpha Frederick and Luna Stephanie has brought turmoil upon the werewolf world. It is truly a devastating news. We can only pray that the Moon Goddess will help us catch these perpetrators. I called for this meeting to encourage everyone to be upright and not slacking in their duties. We don't know who these people are and most importantly we don't know who they are targeting it could just be us only the Moon Goddess knows."

"It is not in any way easy to lose such loved people that we have lost to the hands of the wicked ones you are all free to grieve but remember to be watchful and be careful. Report any suspicious activity to the designated authorities. Thank you for time. Have a good day" Dominic finishes stepping down from the podium Zachary scurrying behind him.

Some speech that was.

In a matter of minutes everyone disperses and a few of them are left on the field talking to each other in groups.

I'm still so baffled Elias speaks up as we supervise the putting away of the equipments used for the speech.

"So am I" I say.

"Its just so....Who the heck would want them dead?" Sally says her mind elsewhere.

"You know I can't even pin point this shit. I can say it could have been rogues" I pipe in

"True because we know he has accepted over a thousand rogues in Europe" Elias says.

"My best guess is that they are Hunters" Sally concludes.

I freeze at that assumption from Sally my mind upside down with many thoughts running through me in haphazardly....Hunters.

That is a good guess though. But hunters have not been in the werewolf scene for a long time. They lost interest in werewolves claiming that they wanted something more....interesting, that's why they started chasing down Lycans. Even though they haven't gotten many successes that is what they are after now.

My mind drifts back to the group of hunters in Dominic's office. I know that they were probably there to help Dominic capture the Lycans. But what does Alpha Frederick and Luna Stephanie have to do with the Lycans. No one has spotted them for a long time now
